that isn't toni tennille's stle . she put out such a good girl image that's a hard sell for her as this is kind of a bad girl song. where as kiki as sweet and adorablke as she can be has a little more of that sassiness in her persona . thats what sells this song. technically kiki does the song better with the right timing and pauses as toni rushes through the number like....yeah this aint me lets get it over with.lol
Love this song, and I also loved Toni Tennille, but the sum of the two parts is a LOT LESS than the two parts. This version is pretty bad. A very big disappointment. Why didn't they keep the original music and let Toni try to sing it?? Because that would have been smart
Toni can sing wow, got this one as well as she kind of gives me a bit of chills when she sings when it goes no foolish dream to make me cry, kind of does make me laugh, and this song really brings me a lot of the good old days to me everyday, and this is the best song ever, from 1974, and thats really a great song, and I do kind of like her long hair a bit. THAT'S A GREAT COVER VERSION OF A 1974 SONG, AND I LOVE THAT ONE. THANKS FOR POSTING THIS ONE! I LOVED IT! :)
You can´t compare both singers! Kiki Dee is a soprano whereas Toni is a mezzo with the tendency to alto. And look how great she reacts after failing to hit the second falsetto tone. And by the way: this is live.
What are you talking about? Toni Tennille IS a good singer!!! Kiki Dee is the original to do this song, but there's nothing wrong with Toni singing it.
Didn't say their was nothing wrong with Toni Tennille singing this son, she just is not a better singer than Kiki Dee. I actually like Toni Tennille, but her vocals do not come close to matching Kiki Dee's
Oh. So you actually like Toni Tennille? I didn't know that. Kiki Dee is the original and like they say, nothing like the original. I really like Toni Tennille vocals with EVERYTHING she sings. To each is own.
Oh yeah?? Females are terrific, yes, but what about Elton John, Freddie Mercury (of Queen), Paul McCartney, Vaughn Monroe, Roger Daltrey, Three Dog Night, etc., etc. Ever heard an all-female choir? Yes, they sing like angels, but the singing gets much, much better when some excellent male voices are added, tenors, baritones, and bass. Reverse is also true. An all-male chorus can sound great, but the singing takes a big leap forward when sopranos and altos are added.
Did you see the video of Toni Tennille doing another Kiki Dee song, Don't Go Breakin' My Heart? Toni sings that one with John Travolta. You'd probably prefer Kiki Dee's version with Elton John since you're a Kiki Dee fan. To each is own.
You could think of appreciating each singer on their own merits. When you say one is so much better than another, you lose the ability to enjoy Toni for what she can do very well. It is your choice to limit your self. Are apples better than oranges?
Wow, Toni Tennille is one fine looking woman and can sing like nobody's business. No offense but I don't know why she decided to sing the older standards, when this style of music is most suited for her
Toni should have continue singing songs like this rather than the old fashioned songs she started singing in 1984 and their career would have continued but she loves it so, so do we.

"I love Toni Tennille to bits, but she doesn't have the range! THIS IS MY-Y-Y LI-I-I-IFE!"
That was, of course, my impersonation of the UK's No.1 pop/jazz diva.

In terms of technique, Toni Tennille's isn't good here - she must have been nervous or something because her breathing is off.

Toni Tennille IS NOT as good of a singer as Kiki Dee, when Kiki sings this song! Kiki Dee blows her out of the water!!

true, I like women singers in general. I think their voices are made for singing. Male singers are not as good as females!
orangeclark 3 years ago
I never thought about that. But you could be right. Although there are some male singers that are good. Females are probably the best though.
