A foxbody with a 302 base with a 342 or 347 stroker and a streetable HCI kit will give you around 500 hp so you can alway throw on a safe 75-125 shot and be near or over 600 hp assuming supported drivetrain mods are used you should be a low 11s or high 10s car. A 475 hp motor NA should be good for high 11s low 12s.What I was stating is yes a modded 302 base can compete with a mild 454 but put work in that big block and its over unless your runnin a turbo or blower and the 454 NA

Anything can be made fast everyone says the new aged mod 4.6L 4v's don't make any power NA well Ill be the first to say they do along with Dan hale, Nazmans etc. etc. 4v's. Ive got mine makin 525hp and 437hp engine dyno and my best quarter has been 10.25s at 137mph. So to each is own it takes money and anything will be fast. Hope you have a happy build with a 302 base they sound and idle like beast's fun very fun cars.

Small block builds are cheaper and a 302 build will weigh 450lbs where a 454 build will weigh about 625lbs. Depending on your goals and vehicle your putting it in a 454 or any big block might be a waste. Small blocks in a mustang or any pony car are plenty with turbo setups 5-6s can be achieved in quarters when pushed. 10-11s can be achieved very easily.

Your completely right about the mid sixties notches they weigh'd around 2600-3000lbs on average probly 200-300 lbs lighter than a fox notch. So yes you should be able to achieve big block fullsize car quarters with a notch and small block setup. Power to weight to a point but big blocks are called that for a reason look at rails 8000+hp outta a 500ci no small block or rice crap will ever make that regardless of fuel type and induction setup.
