  • I dunno why but i failed and got pissed.

  • What I didn't understand was the demonstrator awkwardly turning the peg head 100x to tighten the new string, while a peg head winder/wire cutter was sitting a foot away.

  • hey dude, i have an 'Ibanez Jet King Bass' and it has these, weird bronze o's at the end of the string's, and i have no idea how to change strings, but i was hoping you could help me out on how to deal with these strings, thanks.

  • Well done, man. The way you explain things is clear and concise, without being condescending nor overly technical. Favorited.

  • ok i got a problem I bought a new 5 string Bass (it's only a Harley Benton 5 Hotrod). i tried to tune it and every string tunes fine, but the D-String not. i only get an C not that normal D. Does it work if i put a half wind tight that i can tune it right? I hope you understand my terrible english and my problem and thank you :D

  • I had changed some bass strings before but had done it wrong. Changed my own today for the first time correctly because of your helpful video. Thank you.

  • very explanatory and completely understandable. Thank you!

  • thanks man, great video!! helped a lot, first restringing by myself on my Fender J-Bass!

  • well explained procedure in changing bass guitar strings!

  • Thumbs up for instructional vids!

  • @girlgerms007 NOO!!! lol xD change them!!! ima about to change mine right now! :D do the same to your baby!!!

  • hope i can see the re-stringing action up close :)

  • steve harris rotosounds here i come!

  • i was trying to spin it the wrong way would like to learn more about harmonics though = )

  • how long do the strings last

  • Doesnt work :(

  • thank you .

  • why does it make that buzz sound when after i changed the bass strings?

  • @saskekun101 fret buzz, just tune it to standard, and look at the neck, straighten it out, and or the action make it higher so the strings are so close to the fretboard

  • This video is very useful! Thanks!

    PD: Nice bass also xD

  • question:

if i want to play "Funky Bass" style on my bass, what type of strings should i use?

  • im new to the bass im just learning i have a yamaha rbx170 i wanna chang the strings ( im larning and wanting to play mostly rock ) any idea what string are good for learners

  • ive played guitar for awile now and i got a bass for christmas and i play it alot but i never had to change the strings yet, 1 becuse they are pricey and 2 they didnt seem to need it even tho i played it alot. but when i went to change them now omg i was totally lost until i found ur vid lol. soo much different than changing guitar strings

  • Thanks for this great tutorial! I just changed my strings for first time without a hitch, followinyg your guide.

I am using Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky RoundWound strings. $16 for the set on Amazon. I did alot of research and these where the highest recommended (for the price) and for all sorts of music styles. I play Rock/Metal mostly

  • thanks man! but i wish ur camera was closer to the guitar. ive got asian eyes and i can barely see whats happening but other than that THANKS DUDE

  • hey guys this video helped but i gotta ask, if i take the strings off to put new 1s, would anything happen to the trust rod, intonation or watever??? plz answer i wanna be sure before change the strings

  • @ragnaroksama: No, changing the strings wont change the intonation and other stuff.

  • @alexanderb99 thanks :D so i can just buy light gauge strings and i just put it like on the video? and its ok? like i dont need to worry about tention and action and whatever i said earlier?

  • @ragnaroksama: If your bass has warped and needs intonation (truss rod adjustment and/or bridge adjustment) thats another thing altogether than changing your strings. I recommend Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky strings although that has 105 guage deep E string so thats not considered "light guage"

If you hear "fret buzz" that usually means you need Intonation adjustment ($50 charge at my local Guitar Center). Experienced bassists can make these adjustments themselves.

  • thank you very much

  • thanks so much that really helped me fix my strings when my little brother detatched them

  • to me new bass strings is just like chewing gum, when its new it has flavor and as u go on chewing it loses its flavor,

    (metaphorically speaking)

  • THANKS! I didn't know how to change them! This helped a lot!

  • @Zh0rik I'm really glad that this helped you out.

  • @MusicTrainerDotCom Yeah, but I thought the sound will change because of that. But I guess I just have such strings (steel) and they are making very steely sound. Or with some time it will change. Sorry to waste your time reading this :)

  • why doesn't he use a stringwinder? I think he has one on his cutter.

  • thanks

  • I fucking hate strings which have cloth on the ends!

  • Thumbs up for hofner with flatwounds!

  • pretty fucking big pickups. Is there alot of difference between the cost of a 5 string set and a 4?

  • thanx so much! really helped me replacing my first string XD

  • sorry but i dont really undrestand what you make sure was at the buttom

  • thumbs up is a bass string has ever snapped on ur face it did to me and that shit hurt :(

  • What kind of bass is that?

  • @nlhatley914 ibanez!

  • @Blindguy11011 Yes you are right.

  • @MusicTrainerDotCom Sick bass by the way.

  • Thanks for this Video!

  • Damn im subscribing..

  • why is there silk strings covering the bass strings at the top of some basses

  • is it the same for a hofner? thinking of going for some Flatwounds

  • great video. im putting this in my favorites for when i need to re-string my bass.

  • @CrankTheBass98 Thanks I appreciate the support.

  • Thanks man that helps me a lot

  • @lilskatao No problem!

  • Very helpful video just re-stringed my bass took me about a hour to do rough, but i managed to get it done in the end, ofc my bass is old fashioned as i needed to thread the strings in.

  • @Felanoril78 Yeah don't worry you will get quicker and quicker every time. Thanks for the comment.

  • @Felanoril78 Threading the strings through the body lends a bigger sustain and more resonance. Don't be fooled by newfangled gimmickry like this snap in tailpiece. When the strings go through the body, they have more contact with the guitar, so they vibrate along with it.

  • MusicTrainerDotCom, thank you for showing this video. i needed help and these other videos didn't work because i have a four string ibanez were my D and G string are on the right of the bass. i didn't know how to put those strings in right because i had a fender bass before. thanks again.

  • @tyetribbettfan09 Glad you found this helpful. (:o)

  • dude you broke that down so simple and now i have the confidence of change string with out worry ( i go to Berklee so i need to change string a lot)

  • @libraalbert91 Hey that's cool man you are going to Berklee. I went to MI in LA and when I was done I still didn't even know how to change strings properly. This is one of those little things that are typically overlooked. Glad it was helpful. - Brendan (founder of musictrainer(dot)com

  • You are a great instructor, very descriptive and easy to understand. Been playing bass since 1985 an wish I had seen this back in the day! Good stuff

  • @megac47 Thanks for the kind words!

  • thanks, mate. haven't tried them yet, but they look good :D

  • @wtforkbass Glad they showed up! I was a little worried about the ones that went out to Germany (there were two). Looks like they made it through customs with no problem.

  • He says "you can get string winders...."

I wonder if he knows that there's a string winder right on his string cutting tool???

  • yayyyyyyy saw the vid it helped A LOT know i know how to change ma strings!!! yay!!!!

  • @Bladek4 great, glad we could help!

  • mmmm my bass strings are getting very old and dirty, and i think i probably gotta change 'em soon, but i dont know how....im about to watch this vid, so let's see if it can help...

  • You should do a video of different strings like roundwounds, flatwounds and ground wounds and how they sound

  • @MrImpulse101 We actually filmed a video that talked about the different types of strings and the traits of each but the footage did not meet up to our standards. We plan on re-filming this soon though. Thanks for the feedback. Let me know what else you would like to see.

  • I like these videos

  • @MrImpulse101 Really glad you are enjoying these it's comments like this that help me keep going. Trying to bring a full music school to you guys for free so please support,
