I think the original theme for "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance," not the Gene Pitney version but the actual theme at the beginning of the movie, would be the perfect soundtrack for this.
Just saw the 1930 widescreen version of "The Big Trail" projected on the huge screen at the Museum of Modern Art in Manhattan a couple of weeks ago and there's nothing else quite so overwhelming. So realistic it's like time traveling, and stands alongside "The Searchers" and "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" as one of Wayne's three greatest performances. Great line-up of clips, proving that Charlton Heston in "Secret of the Incas" wasn't the original Indiana Jones, it was John Wayne.
@wilsondylanmccartney While they have their charm in the original form, I thought I'd spice up this "compilation" with a semi-related tune. Artistic license. Sorry you didn't care for it.
Many of these clips came from Wayne's Lone Star-Monogram westerns and serials olf the Thirties. The one shop of him carrying the girl across the open field, pursued by a bi-plane is from the 1933 Mascot serial "Shadow of the Eagle." The stunt where he transfers from the horse onto the wagon and falls underneath the horses is of course done by Yakima Canutt, who originated the "gag."
coward? why because Republic Studios sued him for breaking his contract when he tried to enlist and then once he got done fighting them he was told he was too old. he was over 34 when pearl harbor happened and the military didnt want him. make sure you realize what your saying before you say it. and im sure you would do everyone of your own stunts if you were a hot shot actor.... stupid ass...... (side note- awesome clip, i really enjoyed it)
Most of these stunts were doubled by the Duke's long time friend Yakima Canutt from Washington State of which he met on the set of Fox Studios in the late 20's before he was even given credits in featured B film Westerns during the depression.
I think that's one of his later ones... like TRUE GRIT (1969). I haven't seen any of those. I'll be starting the 1940s as soon as my DARK COMMAND arrives.
WoW!
This is a great video! Thank you!

I love the videos, but I wish you wouldn't have put this music to it, and rather just played the original audio to them.

What's the title of these with the battle on the cableway?
And these with wayne run on a moto?
Thanks friend !

Yeah, that was really Wayne in the plane.

The man was a coward, would fight in WWII, he would not do his own stunts.

Yakima played a few Indian roles in some of these films as well. He's usually a baddie though.
