At first I thought Tom Sizemore played the sergeant major on CNN, finding out it was an actual retired Marine (as were many of the minor roles) made it pretty sweet. I had low expectations when I went to go see due to rest of the invasion films. The movie had its flaws, but being prior service and with the same regiment, I gotta praise the effort that was made to make it as authentic as possible

Mate, didn't you see their transports just slamming right into the city centre like meteors. They don't need to land in water per se seemingly. The proximity of water acts as a direct supply of fuel.

I reckon the land locked cities would see enemy strong points forming around available waterways, canals, rivers, lakes and underground reservoirs and spread from there.
