This dance is so amazing that it inspired me to buy my own set of poi and veils from jessenia. My only question is how did you tie the veils to the poi so that the veils fully extend?
@runwiththepack , Thanks! It was the first time I had ever performed veil poi. I was pretty scared...it was so cool that it went mostly well and the audience was so loving that night.
are the veils smaller or shorter than the normal bellydance veils? i can do basic poi and i can do rather advanced veil....i have beeb "playing" trying to figure this out
these are 1/2 circle veils from A'kai silks. These are the big ones. The smaller circles are easier to learn on. The secret is "weighting" your poi with something. In this video, mine were weighted with a heavy pair of zills. Warning: it really hurts it you hit yourself...you can do some damage. Be careful and I'd recommend finding something w/o edges instead. I thought I broke my leg at one point while practicing!
@UrbanAmericanGypsy Gorgeous! I had zills in mine for a while too, until i got myself in the knee so bad i couldn't walk for two days. I found a small yet weighty bean bag that is a little less painful when I get myself with it (usually happens when outdoors and contending with wind).
That was magical,by the way, bellydance has always blended with other cultures, & intead of making it "go down" it's had the very opposite effect. GORGEOUS!
Thanks! The songs are Prelude and Qadukka-I-Mayyas by Jesse Cook. I tied a tiny knot in the silk to the o-rings that connect the string to the handles on the poi.
Poi is a Polynesian/South Sea Islands art form. Basically spinning balls on a string or a chain, sometimes on fire. Voi is combining belly dancing veil work with spinning poi. Thanks for your nice comments!
How BEAUTIFUL!!! Thanks for sharing this M, you are graceful, gorgeous & fluid! Wow, you danced amazingly & I am overwhelmed as always by your creativity. Great outfit too. Love ya! =)
