I don't think Rhydian is trying to be a rock singer tbh. He sings in his own style which is distinctive and unique.

Both Meatloaf and Jim Steinman loved Rhyd's version which was his own take on the song. :)

I agree with the saying that covers should not be compared to the original but to other covers instead. I like Meatloaf but I much prefer this version. I love Rhydian's rich baritone voice and the long note he held from 3:31 to 3:43, that was very original in my opinion.

@dennisthenobodies - I have heard he's one of the nicest guys out there. I believe XFactor made a villain out of him trying to make the show more interesting. But in real life, he's very nice.

This is a great song; I can completely appreciate why someone would want to do a cover of it.

What I can't understand is the purpose of producing a cover that brings absolutely nothing original, and serves as nothing but a (slightly inferior) carbon copy of the original piece.

Meatloaf did plenty of covers himself; usually of work Steinman had produced for other people, but they were always produced to sound like original work.

This is nothing but a poor Meatloaf impression.

While I do prefer Meat Loaf's version, if you check the credits in the album liners you'll notice that he didn't write his own songs, either.

Of course, neither did Elvis, Johnny Cash, or many of the other big names.

When I heard the intro I thought he was just going to be a pathetic wannabe, but once he got started I must say he was impressive. Meat Loaf did it better, but I definitely need to find more of this guy.

I agree with Meatloaf in that Rhydian's Version (Cover) is the Best "Cover" Performance of this Song ever outside of the Original Meatloaf Version. I've learned to never compare with the Original but to rate the Quality of the Version by the Performer that respected the Original Artist so much to Cover that artist's Song. This is the highest form of Flattery you can give any Artist.

I've been a Meatloaf fan all my life and when he first released this song I swore NOBODY would ever do a cover that came close.... until I heard Rhydian's cover. The reason I like Rhydian's is that he hasn't changed the way the song should be sung, and he's not tried to "make it his own", he's just sang a bloody good song very well - and after all, Jim Steinman contacted Rhydian after seeing him do "I'd do anything" on the X Factor so they must've liked what they heard!
