I was at The University of Georgia when The Producers were popular. They came to campus one year, and everybody knew all the words to every song they played. Best concert ever. This song was from their 2nd and less successful album. Every song on their 1st album was great. They played at "The Mad Hatter" in Athens, and throughout the southeast. They were great, and the keyboard player (Wayne Famous?) was a lot of fun to watch.
What I wouldn't give to be a PRODUCER !!! These guys look like they're having SOOOOO much fun. Hot chick, great locales, rockin' song. Thanks for sharing. : )
Hard to believe its been 30 years! I would have been a junior in high school, so this music really brings it all back. The best days gone by...I guess mom and dad were right-the older you get the faster time seems to go-too bad things aren't like they used to be-not just being a little younger, but if I could freeze time and live in one era, I think this would be it!
I play (DJ) a lot of 80s school reunions and this song still rocks a party. As well as Rock Lobster and a whole lotta INXS. Miss the underage days seeing the 'Ducers on the President Riverboat in New Orleans.
Haven't bent my knees while dancing like that since the 80's. Gotta run and get some pink sweats. Seriously great song and original (Thats original). Swear it would sell well today.
Screw a buncha nostalgia for the '80's--the era of Reagan and the ascendancy of the Yuppie! This is a great song, tho--very hooky--coming from the cultural era of the skinny tie and the scrunched-up-sleeve sportcoat. The Producers were fun to see at 688 or similar Atlanta dives. did they ever play L5P Pub??
I jammed at Auburn with my band back then and they have the greatest, crazy fans in the U.S. The lead singer for Producers has one of the most gifted voices.
I have a short list of 80s bands who should have been bigger. These guys, Cock Robin, a few others. Pop music heroism strikes just a few, and not all the deserving get there.
@tprusik81 i think I was there. Mid-late 80s, or was it earlier? I drove up from Emporia to see these guys. Can't remember the year. Was quite drunk. Also saw The Rainmakers in Lawrence within a few years of that.
And my shoulder hurts sometimes from holding my Les Paul - I'm never gonna say another word after seeing Wayne jumping around carrying an entire keyboard.
I played drums for a Seattle band "Wish" in the early 80's. We'd blast "You Make The Heat" to and from gigs and practices. Shela and the Producers still rock me to this day
@mach1franco hell yeah! i sing this song all the tiome and today i decided to look it up and there it is! i stay on this ALL the time finding old stuff. i l;ove it!
Sheila is a bitch...Give me the keyboardist...he's quiet but not to much. He begins the song and finishes it at the end. Give me HIM!! He looks like fun and lovey...
I got to see them in Virginia Beach, VA back in '88. I always loved this track in particular and STILL can't believe people used to dress and dance like that in the 80's, even though I was one of 'em. AWESOME song!
@tomerikac1 I know what you mean. I played bass in a band in PA in the '80s and this was one of our staples. This is a great song to play live and I loved singing it.
ONE MORE GREAT BAND FROM GEORGIA. They join: REM, Indigo Girls, B52s, Atlanta Rythym Section, Georgia Satellites, and a favorite if mine; Drivin N Cryin. KANSAS also lived in and recorded in Georgia. To be 1982 again. Those were GOOD TIMES, really good times. Class of 84 RULES!
This band was one of the first SUPER hit groups on the new MTV in 81. Too many people have forgotten this treasure. These guys are FROM MY TOWN, along with Drivin' n' Cryin'. Atlanta is big band country. REM, B52's, Georgia Satellites only a few miles away in that little UGA college town. Its good too be a Georgia boy!
amen amen!...many unique and original sounding bands from your general hood back in the day...right there with ya my friend...wish i had been there back in the day! love this stuff
@jsbx5 I GOT SOME GREAT NEWS FOR YOU. I have a one of a kind TOTALLY MUSIC/ARTIST CHANNEL. My TOTALLY MYV playlist even has original MTV commercials! INCLUDING THE ACTUAL MTV STARTUP INTRO. You will also like TOTALLY FEM METAL/ROCK p1 origins, and there are many 70s & 80s videos in sample list & among the TOTALLY METAL playlists pt1 - 3. Some of my channel freinds ARE: Stryper, Kip Winger, Taylor Dayne, and Dream Theater (DT goes back to 86). Check it out, you'll love it.
Saw them @ Six Flags over Georgia in I think 82 as a side band located by the haunted house...I'll Never forget it, they were great, I had to stop and listen to their whole set.
What a great band! Got to see these guys around 79 at Dekalb College in Atlanta, they were opening up for the band we wanted to see called The Dixie Dregs. How blessed was I to see this band , just up and coming. They deserved a little more than being dropped after there second album. Truly a great band with real talent.
The best band that never made it! I remember seeing them in college many times and they were as good or better live than recorded! Thnaks for the memories
I love everything about the Producers, except i cant buy the cd,i never get tired of this energy, they are one of the best to be from Georgia, love always
I'm a guitar player by trade but just spent 15 mins figuring that amazing intro on the synth. I'm going to have to learn this whole tune - it rocks! These guys are pretty inactive right now on their website :(
Funny you would mention Adam Ant because according to this bands lead singer Van Temple....Portrait records almost literally flipped a coin to decide which act they would put promotion and money behind....Adam Ant won the toss and The Producers faded into history.
@odstassault I heard a similar story about Galactic Cowboys and Nirvana! Either way, Geffen Records are crooks... look at what they did to The Semantics and countless other great bands. Sigh!
@GalacticCowboy Nirvana made it though..........damn......Lets get together and Put The Producers in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!!!!!!.....let me hear an AMEN!!!!!!
@odstassault Thats really sad to hear dude....if true......Last time I saw them was in Augusta, Ga......and it was Waynes Bday.......40th.......and to hear that crap makes me sick.......they were and still are an awesome group!!!
What stinks is that their album, "You Make The Heat" is out of print, now. Collectors charge almost $50.00 for a Cassette, Vinyl, or $75.00-$100.00 for a rare CD copy.
Was the musical landscape throughout the Eighties superior to those that now entertain current youth? That's a tough call. There were an array of good artists in that decade (just as there is in any given era) although many of them struggled to appear on the charts (such as the Producers). Did Adam And The Ants, Big Country, or Echo And The Bunnyman really possess more value than contemporary acts such as the Donnas, My Morning Jacket and the White Stripes? I doubt it.
I saw these guys in Denver. Was living in Grand Junction,CO and got to meet the band. The next day a buddy and I went to denver and got in the concert free. It's good to have a couple of beers with the band....they remember that..........lol
Man, DeeCee CT is so right. Bryan played his ass off on these records. Strong, innovative grooves that were radio-friendly but a little different. Very Stewart Copeland-ish.
Hey Stingray. I grew up in Atlanta and went to high school with Van Temple, lead guitar and vocals. A great guy from a great family. I moved to Bend in "96 - small world thanks to music!
Great song & one of the best videos ever--love when Wayne's coat flys away! There a couple of live versions here on YT, one from back then, one from '09, & these guys were/are skin tight musicians & they nail those harmonies. This version's great because the video is so much fun & Sheila is HOT! No tortured artists pouting & crying to save the world (just buy our CDs), no loud, stupid chest thumping braggadocio, just a catchy, fun song about hot girl--this is how it's done, you 2010 poseurs!
I totally agree! this sound is as relevant today as it was back in the eighties'. At least i got to see them in San Juan, Puerto Rico!!! Awesome, their sound is almost as exact as their live performance (minus the small and un-noticeable mis chords or key's (i guess that's what makes it live!)
I haven't seen this video since....1982! I had just moved to Atlanta in June of '82, and got my first experience with MTV & cable. I had a black TransAm w/ T-tops, and enjoyed those young years!!!
this is great! i loved this band so much back in the day and drove all over Georgia and Florida to see them. good memories. thank you so much for positng!
Takes me back to high school days. What a trip to hear this again, it's like activating parts of my brain from the past. I remember when this first came out on MTV, they played it all the time.
Waynefamous - one of the best Hammond B3 players ever..no telling how many times the B3 was hauled around..lol..what rich music came out of that organ..electronics cannot compare.
This band just popped into my head yesterday but I could not remember any of their songs. As soon as I heard this it all came back. I saw them as the opener for Kansas in 1983 and more people wanted to see them than Kansas. It's a shame that I never hear them on the radio any more!
Hey Stingray. I grew up in Atlanta and went to high school with Van Temple, lead guitar and vocals. A great guy from a great family. I moved to Bend in "96 - small world thanks to music!

Simple song, but loved it. Was mesmerized when I was a senior in high school. Must have been just the whole lighthearted vibe of attraction

Takes me back to high school days. What a trip to hear this again, it's like activating parts of my brain from the past. I remember when this first came out on MTV, they played it all the time.

I'd rather hear this 28 year old song than 99.9% of the new shit out there today.

This band just popped into my head yesterday but I could not remember any of their songs. As soon as I heard this it all came back. I saw them as the opener for Kansas in 1983 and more people wanted to see them than Kansas. It's a shame that I never hear them on the radio any more!
