Wait, more troops in Afghanistan? What's the point? its been ten years since we got there and no progress done. And I still don't get the point of going there... Not all of Al Qaeda is there after all...
Bullet trains are a great idea, too bad big oil has lobbied against them for the last 30 years. Oh well, you old grumpy apes can't live forever. We'll just wait it out. Have fun knowing when you are dead, all of your nightmares will come true. Like your grandparents nightmare of a black president lol!
Why are they so obsessed with high speed rails? That is 19th/20th century infrastructure. They only make sense if we all have to commute to 9 to 5 jobs in big office buildings or factories outside town. I thought the Obamacrats were supposed to be the digital visionaries (sarcasm).
@modifiedcontent High speed rail does not work in the US, not because it is a 20th century infrastructure. It works in many other places in the world very well. But where it works there is good general public transport. High speed rail can take you long distances quickly but it is not taking to the block you want to get to, or even with in a mile of where you want to be, so then what? Rent a car?
@Kryczek ("aren't military expenditures the biggest part of US federal spending after all?")
No they are not. Social Security and Medicare are. They all should be cut though. In the case of the defense budgets, close the bases in Europe, Japan, South Korea, etc. And get out of Afghanistan, an irrelevant backwater. Explain to me again why Obama is doubling down on Afghanistan?
I agree that US should close bases in EU, maybe even in Asia. Now I don't know about Asia, but as long as the US keeps bases in Europe, EU countries are slacking in military power which makes them weak and it costs Americans a lot of money. And I wish I knew why Obama still wants to fight in Afghanistan, it's impossible to "win" there and the wars with Arab militants must have cost America a fortune already. Maybe the real reason is nuclear weapons in Pakistan.
So many contradictions - stop earmarks, build high speed rail; encourage R&D, get rid of tax incentives; increase tax on the rich, don't chase the smart people out of the country...
What did you expect? Liberals become conservatives less often than christians become atheists. But I think we should applaud the surprises, such as his promise to veto all the earmarks, cut medicare and medicade, and to reduce corporate taxes. If we don't acknowledge small victories then our voice will be marginalized as pessimistic angst.

In case anyone wants to find out why you can't trust Reason, see my years-long coverage of them (remove the spaces):

Like many other libruhtarians, Reason supports hidden subsidies and their contributors have misled about various issues.

@depro9 illustrates a problem the far-left has in opposing libertarian loons like Reason.
He starts out OK, even if he fails to note that Reason has links to the largest private energy company in the U.S.
But, then he goes off on the ageist/racist talk, the kind of talk that in other countries has led to genocide or close to it.

You don't get credit for being better than the tea party response. Different age/maturity group.

Then I watched this Reason vid! Wow! Snazzy!
