  • i was wondering... since you cant drink the water in Korea, how do you wash dishes? is it safe to wash dishes in the water, or do you have to boil it first, or do you have to use bottled water for dishes? love the recipe vids the best! hope u have a 'most excellent day' !!!! :D

  • @LadySilverWolfe The tap water is perfectly safe to drink and wash dishes with. In fact, I use it all the time.

  • mmm for kimchijjigeh you dont put gochujang...and jus use regular tuna....well at least my mom doesnt but if u like it spicy then i guess lol

  • i make kimchi every day

  • Dig the reflection on the cupboard cuz I get to see your set up. :)

  • LOL! I love how you noted, "1 large American." Oh our serving sizes are ridiculous!

  • yuck ... it smells really bad i heard

  • 디게 간단하게 맹그시네;;;

  • omg,, Im hungry :Q

also Im Korean exchange student in Arizona

and now im sooooo hungry and wanna Korean food..

  • Keep up the videos.

  • Nice stuff man! This video is really doing well :)

  • You should try putting in pork instead of tuna! IMO it is better, but tuna is good too

  • I saw you on the "Jolene Sugarbaker" channel yesterday. Thought I would check your channel. Very cool stuff. Will you be doing any more cooking shows with her?

  • @AlleySbb Thanks! I filmed one more cooking show with Jolene when we were there this past summer!

  • i can see the camera reflecting off the cabinets

  • Good ole beef stew =]

  • you should try korean spicy chicken stew! i love it!

  • i really like red wine rooster stew and pig feet stew in winter :-) yum

  • 맛있겠당! wow, i just bought 맛김치 and it was 18 US dollars~ i wish i was back in Seoul where it's way cheaper and tastier~ㅠ i really miss the inexpensive and super delicious food in Seoul~~~~

  • Delicious!!!!!

  • dang lol you really like to make it very spicy !

  • Cool. I like beef stew or chicken noodle when it gets chilly.

  • yummy

  • hehe I found your channel a few days ago and I love it! such a funny guy. I was suprised to see that your 고추장 is the same that I have in the refrigerator. In a few days I will go to asian shop and buy kimchi.

Unfortunately kinchi is very expencive here, must be because of the shipment. One package like the one in your video costs over 5 euros. So how many won is kimchi over there in Korea?

  • @pussy7878 It depends. Usually about a Kilo for W10,000.

  • @pussy7878 for me its free cus im korean and we make it lol.recipe's are expensive and its ha

  • Wow.. It will look quite spicy to foreigners..but not really spicy to Koreans.

That packed kimch isn't that hot and gochujang is also isn't that hot.

  • Your recipe is kinda simple version. You have to use meat or fish broth instead of pure water. I use dried small anchovy(마른 멸치) to make it. And I prefer pork rib to tuna.

  • i do not really light winter its to cold for me. but i like to eat soup in the winter to keep me warm. i eat soup in the summer to

  • as simply as that??? whoa i gotta try to cook Kimchi Jjigae too.

Thanks sir steve.. quicky cooking.. nice :)

  • omo I really love kimchi <3 :)

  • Nice kitchen

  • Do you study the Korean war? It earned the nick name of the forgotten war, but reading into the battles is really interesting.

  • This video is really nice done. Picture is excellent and you're a great host in the kitchen.

As for the kimchi.... I'll try to find those packs at the Korean supermarket.

    Thank you for the tip.

  • @Laura17T Thanks Laura! I love cooking!!!!!

  • Can i make this without the tuna?

  • @jadeCeladon Absolutely!!!!!!!!!!

  • @jadeCeladon Those spicy tunas are at least $3 a can in USA, so I use half can of spam(low salt variety). I have also used firm tofu(big slices), which is my favorite. I always add scallions and onions.

  • You always make things look so GOOD! I could almost smell the Kimchi and spicy tuna! Keep those videos coming and I also always look forward to your signature 'wink' at the end of the videos!

  • @graphixmike LOL - Glad you enjoyed this one! It was certainly a lot of fun to make! I love the wink as well!!! ;-)

  • That looked pretty spicy...Hey I was noticing your cute kitchen...it looked pretty little...Was that burner your only cook top?...Maybe a tour of your home in the future?...

  • @DawndeeDALLAS That tour is in the works.

As for the burner, it's what we use for tabletop grilling or on picnics. Since the regular burners are behind me (in the video), I thought it easier to shoot it this way.

Yes, it was spicy... just the way I love it! Thanks for watching!

  • thought you like "pork" kim chee jjigae , i would make kim chee jjigae with either pork tuna ,or even black agnus beef galbi

  • @daewooparts That sounds wonderful!!!!!

  • I always like to have a nice spicy bowl of chili in the winter! Last time I had kimchi chigae, it took me 2 days to finish it because the restaurant gave me a LOT of food!

  • @urbanexcursion That is a lot of stew!!!!! Thanks for watching!

  • How about a series on these cooking vids!!! :D!!! That would be awesome!!!

My favorite stew for cold weather would have to be good ol' ramen! XD

  • @MANNY100123 I will be making some Ramyun soon!!!! I've done a few cooking videos, but my passion is for travel and trying out foods ;-)

  • Yum!

  • @johnorcullo That it was!

  • Chef ranger :D

  • @Fhenry LOL - Not really, but it's fun to cook!

  • Extra Tip!

If you add extra fresh Green Onion (파/Pa) it will tast even more delicious.

I also add extra 파 to make noodles (라면/ Ramyun)

  • @Jinnyboymusic That is so true. Green onions are the bomb!

  • @qiranger You're right!!!

  • That looks really, really tasty! I've seen these ingredients in Japan; might have to give it a shot! Question, though: how hot is your final ingredient? Extra-spicy? Medium? I like a little heat, but not TOO much.

I am a big fan of stews and soups when it gets cold. My aunt has a recipe she calls "Al-Qaeda chili" that is fantastic. I'm simpler: I like Minestrone. I've got a video up on my channel.

    Thanks for sharing, Steve!

  • @ArishaInTokyo The chili past comes in several different ratings. I like mine really spicy. The store brand we buy doesn't have a lot of Kimchi juice. If you buy it in a bag or make your own, you really don't need to add that last ingredient.

I cold really go for some Mionistrone soup. It's been too long!

  • Yukgaejang i love at anytime of the year

  • @micromyuze That is so true!

  • looks good! kinda looked like making astronaut food with that foil package! ha ha... i like nabe (hotpots) for the winter! quick, fast and warms you up!

  • @LaJYankee Yup... I love these foil packages!

  • damn i shouldnt subscribe your channel!

you really make me hungry every time!!!

  • @vlahable ;-) Thank you for doing so. What's your favorite hot food on a cold day?

  • Being Vietnamese we have a a variety of soups to choose on a chilly day! But for a hearty stew I enjoy Vietnamese beef stew!

  • @ohnoitsho Sounds like a great plan. I might just have to get some Pho today!

  • Since I don't have spicy tuna I will just add regular tuna and cook it down. Or can I just cook it in the hot pepper paste then add the kimchi.

I had it before and it's good with white rice and stuffed pickled kimchi.

  • @JamConcerned You can really use any kind of meat. It was the only thing I had in the house at the time. I rotate between SPAM, Pork, Chicken, regular tuna, and the Spicy Tuna. I usually always add between 150-200g of meat.

  • Its warming up here, but I have a cold...so I actually have a curry lamb caserole on a slow bake in the oven right now 130c for 3.5 hrs. Smells pretty good through my one unblocked nostril I can currently make use of lol : P

  • @MicknFumi Sounds great! Hope your nasal passages clear up soon mate!

  • OMG.. Kimchi + spice tuna + go chu jang? lol koreans even don't eat kimchi jjigae like that spice haha

  • @YeolWOe I'm from the American Southwest. We like our food spicy there! ;-) Thanks for watching!

  • Kimchi has pepper's spicy Capsaicin which protects from various cancers and viruses.

And appropriately older Kimch makes more good fermentation enzyme.

However don't eat or make it too salty. it's not such good for stomach.

It's different between salty and spicy. : )

  • @nachtnite I know kimchi is good for the digestion of the intestines. I guess it depends on if his stomach can take it. I don't like it too spicy either I usually use mild hot pepper paste.

  • @nachtnite Yup, that's why I love Kimchi!

  • Hey Steve, nice cooking video =)

  • @FindMeInKurume Thanks Mark!

  • This looks awesome!! Wonder if I can find that spicy tuna here in Japan?? The rest I can get my hands on for sure. Thanks for the video!

  • @ierict I'm sure you can. If not, use your favorite kind of meat!

  • Love this type video, I'd love to see some more cooking videos from you! You are the best! :) Looks delicious!!

  • @xxcobainlover We'll see about cooking videos... more food for sure!

  • A very large American! LOL. I attached a response called pot roast but it was really a beef stew that I'm told works great with venison too. For pork I like to exchange the veggies - onion, potato, garlic and apples. Yum.

  • @thizizliz Great choice!!!! I loved the recipe!

  • Oh yeah! I forgot! 순대국 and 떡국 are good. Not to mention 라면...:)) good, (cheap), food haha

  • @Bumblebeez905 mmmmmmmmmmm Ramyun with egg and green onions!

  • dang, i will try that next!!! dont know about the spicy tuna tho'......mostly non spicy tuna state side???

  • @thechoos Sometimes I add marinated chicken to give it a great flavor that's a little different!

  • I love to eat Shabushabu, or huoguo in Mandarin. But I also love those Korean hot pot... don't know the name lol small black stone pot.. very hot and you can have some sort of soup in it with sea food etc.. :9

  • @BlackCatBCB Dolsot food is great. I love those hot pots!!!! I hope to take Jo to her first Shanu Shabu place soon!

  • Gawd dam that looks so good !!

  • @parisblonde It was!

  • Mmm. This is just the way my oppa makes kimchi jjigae, save the extra gochujang because I'm not too fond of its sweetness. We both love kimchi jjigae though... But when it gets cold out, my childhood tastebuds yearn for some Hmong chicken soup made by mom ^-^

  • @writer1986 mmm chicken soup is great on cold days. I only add the gochujang because I really like it spicy!

  • I love the kalbi tang (beef rib soup) so tasty and lesser bold spices!

  • @raecell I love galbi tang. Will be taking you to my favorite place soon in an upcoming video!

  • Currently eating PB&J while watching this.

  • @bloc22 I have that for breakfast on some days!

  • Can you make that stew with any other meat?

  • @cmb17 it's usually made with pork. you could put in beef I suppose

  • @tokee1234567 Thank you for the answer. I will give it a try. :)

  • @cmb17 Pork in the Kimchi Jjigae is the BMB - Seriously! It is fantastic! Even Anthony Bourdain agrees!

  • i love 순두부찌게 when it's cold!

  • @nyang29 That's also very good!

  • Man, I wish there was a Korean restaurant around here. I love spicy stuff and that looked so good.

  • @perdomot You could always make the kimchi yourself. I have a video for that!

  • @qiranger I actually bought some kimchi ramyun at an oriental market and had it today for lunch. Loved the spiciness and the noodles tasted better too. Got another ramyun to try later on in the week. Thanks for the tips.

  • lol :D my mom makes me kimchi jigae! :D all the time ! haha but it has like A BUTT LOAD of tofu :3 my moms korean so tofu is like the base of all are soups :P hahahahaha xD

  • @BerryAdelineBombshel How much is a BUTT LOAD???

  • @qiranger LOL! way to much for a person to eat :P

  • @noealz lol peanuts? umm are you sure you're not talking about fermented soy beans? lol hmm if you're talking about dwen jang jjigae it's definitely not peanuts LOL

  • I make a chili with tofu crumbles. Yum!

  • @Grahamcracker6366 That's one way of making it that I have never come across! I always made mine with tortilla chips!

  • Crab bisque and new england clam chowder would have to be my favorite soups

  • @ChupkaGaming I really miss good clam chowder. I must get some when I am back in the US!

  • That looks easier than pie, Steve. Good cooking tips.

  • @HoonBaek Thanks!!!! Really easy!

  • mmm...looks good.

  • @reynoldsair It is!!! You should totally give it a go!

  • Qi, it's tastier if you fry the kimchi a little in the pan or pot before you add water and boiling.

  • @Xentradi97 Interesting... I'll try that next time!

  • "Or 1 really large american"..lol..

  • @TheFatAussieBarstard ;-) I had to put that in there!

  • @TheFatAussieBarstard FAB! What are you doing here?! :D

  • @noealz lol they're not peanuts. they're fermented soybeans called Dwenjang.

  • I like your quick method with tuna! Awesome. I would also add some mushroom and tofu. Kimchi is the best ingredient ever. Kamsa hamnida Korea!

  • @MrJingjong I'm a man on the go! Got to keep it simple. But when we have time and the real stuff, we do it up right. Yeah, Kimchi is awesome. Looking forward to your new video!

  • 비지찌개! Biji jiggae :) haha. But really?? You can get 김치 in a bag like that, just sitting on a shelf? Wow! We make our kimchi jiggae using the bottled kinchi :))

  • @Bumblebeez905 Yeah, so easy to store this way. We have fresh kimchi now from KimJang, so I'm really exited to use that!

  • I'm gonna make this. Fo SHO! Good stuff. Thanks!

  • @durkeeinkorea Super! It's really easy!

  • Wow I first read the title as "Koran cooking" -- Must be too early for my brain plus I read too many crazy news stories. Good vid you need to make it out to Tokyo man.

  • @betamaxdc LOL - That sounds like something they did at Gitmo! Yeah, I really want to make it out this year. Well 2012.

  • Bigos of course ((;

  • @Aitsu58 Sounds delightful! Are you good at making that?

  • @qiranger

wha? Nooo, but I've never tried to be honest. It takes a loooot more time and work to make, than Kimchi Jjigae you showed ;))

  • @noealz The soybean stew?

  • Irish stew made by my Grandma or Aunt. It's so yummy! (:

  • @undernoinnocence ooooooooooo Fantastic!

  • it's better to sauté your kimchi first in the pot then put water in. it's so much better if you add some more juice from kimchi!

  • @currytub Interesting. I've never made it that way. The store brands have very little "kimchi juice." That's why I add the gochujang.

  • I use pork and lots of tofu. and i use the kimchi juice from the jar instead of water haha

  • @lincolnhasapikachu I wish I could. When we use our own kimchi there's always plenty of sauce. The store brands have very little. ;(

  • @qiranger so awesome you responded!!!!!

  • @lincolnhasapikachu I always try to do so!

  • @qiranger appreciate it!!!! you're awesome!!!

  • i like to add pork and vegetable to mine :-)

  • @SeriousAsianGuy Pork is the BOMB when it comes to Kimchi Jjigae!
