damn the instrumental alone brings a tear (or two) to my eye. it's gorgeous. reminds me of a simpler time, back in my high school days. this song is nostagic for me
Getting old only has a small part to do with it. It's mainly because he hasn't continued to stay active in the game. People like KRS, GZA, even Cypress Hill all continue to allow themselves to be inspired and keep going. I you think about it, Rap is a very young genre in terms of music. So we havent really seen if there can be a 60 year old rapper still doing his thing, much like the rolling stones. Kane probably hasn't been real active omong his peers as opposed to Premo or even Pete Rock.
@quicktolisten Yup, the one and only Bob James, the man whose had more of his joints jacked by R&B and true hiphop heads than almost anyone else, save James Brown. (Source of this beat: "Angela (Theme from TAXI)", from his 1978 album TOUCHDOWN.)
DAMN. I remember this from I think NBA Live 08. Amazing track. Damn I love this shit. Jazzy Jeff laid the perfect plan, and Big daddy Kane committed the murder of this track.

Both Kane and Jazz have always been awesome...nice link up and more hip hop is needed that represents the quality that is out there like this true sound
Jazzy is doing some serious traveling all over the world DJ-ing on an appointment basis. dude is kept busy all the time. He also produced Jill Scott`s first album
you don't get songs like this anymore. hip-hop right now pretty much sucks. it's all about money. all the creativity is gone...that's why i enjoy listenin to old school more than the current singles in the charts
dj jazzy jeff is the most underrated producer ever. juss becasue he ain't make no beats for soulja boy and hurricane chris n one wants to hear about him. dj jazzy jeff is real hip-hop
Kane should just keep his old M/O, not try to adapt like he has been doing. i think there is a market for his old style, or more so than for what he has been trying to do in the last few years. you should always play up your strength.
Kane's always been adapting homie. Never in his point did he remain a static emcee. He's always been a dynamic artist, trying to find ways to innovate himself... Hell, he even says that in this track if you actually listened to it.
If you ask me, it's because the industry hasn't responded to the need. People like Big Daddy Kane only reinforce the urge to get more record deals out to talented emcee's.
On another note, it's really what the concept of the album was based on. (which was "The Return of the Magnificent" not "The Magnificent" btw)
@celestialnubian - This is very true. Although after 1992 all of the 80's greats couldn't even hold their own mics. Big Daddy never fell off, the times changed so he went to R&B.

Love JJ's style. Rappers rapping realistically with great reflection of rappers and the industry itself.
Some of JJ's tracks I like because they have even a nice comical edge.
Man is dope, don't test.

And is it a coincidence that he happens to be "innovating himself" in the same direction that the rest of rap music has been going?
