Had Gene gotten the gig, I'm wondering if he would have gotten along with Barker any better than Rod did? After Rod's falling out with Barker, he was rarely seen on the camera again before his untimely death in 2003!
I Remember Watching The Nighttime Price Is Right Afterschool When I Was In The 3rd Grade On KXAS-TV Channel 5 @ 4:30 Weekdays! I Wish GSN Show The Nighttime Price Is Right On Late Night?
Gene Wood, Rich Jefferies and Bob Hilton were the intern announcers after Johnny Olsen passed away. Rod Roddy took over until when he additionally passed away as well
@talladegajunkie1439 You might remember him as the primary announcer on "Family Feud" (Both Richard Dawson and Ray Combs). But he also announced and hosted "Beat the Clock" (1969-1974), and would often sub (or even take over) for Johnny Olson on other Goodson-Todman shows such as "Now You See It" and "Double Dare" (the 1970's Alex Trebek-hosted show; not the Marc Summers' hosted Nickelodeon mess-fest.
I always like Bob Hilton when he was on TPIR, its a shame he turned it down for a game show that did not last. Does anyone have any TPIR with Bob Hilton they can post.
That Temptation cue is one my favourites. I never noticed it was from the same suite as the car cue, but when I listen to them I can hear it. I would love to find a clean copy of it somewhere, as the 1983 cues are my favourites.
In addition, that car cue would be used on Card Sharks 1986 (both the Eubanks and Rafferty versions). Also, Gene Wood should've auditioned to succeed Rod. Like Johnny Olson, he was a Goodson-Todman mainstay.
About that cue, I have been trying to find that cue in almost every website with game show themes and cues and always came up empty. So, does anybody have any idea where to find this particular car cue anywhere? Please, tell me.
Tom has very nice hands !

Tom Kennedy would have been a great replacement for Bob if he wasn't so old (he's currently 83)

Always nice to see Tom Kennedy (who was Jack Narz' brother) as he was from Louisville, KY which is right across the river from my home town.

@CrestwoodRocks what is an intern announcer? Do you mean interim announcer?

turntable would spin.

@pnfl07 Yeah, I've always wondered why they did that.

As a matter of fact, my friend WarioBarker88 has one full episode and two parts of another up. Just search "The Price is Right Bob Hilton".

I do recall Dennis James hosting the night time version of TPIR.

This is my mom's favorite pricing game and one of my favorites as well.

Today, they have a jazzier/sax version of that very cue. I believe it's for cars in the Showcase.

Gotta love the way Gene Wood does "Come On Down!".

58 cents for a pack of Red Vines in 1985-1986?

if you listen closely they play a car cue as for the trip

yeah that is quite odd that they would play a car cue for a trip.

I always liked the piccolo remix of that car cue which is often used for the last prize in Temptation.

@jarvisbrodiea1 That's the "Spelling Bee Car Cue." You can find it on YouTube.

Would have done no good for Gene to audition, he died within a year of Rod.

But don't forget, during Season 26, he did the consolation prize plugs during the summer repeats.
gameshowguy2000 2 years ago
I was not aware of that...thanks for the info.

inflation affected Grocery Game bad. The Goal is now $20-$21.
dorianjoshua 4 years ago
Yeah but the $20-$21 range came into play in early 1989. I think it's way overdue for another bump up.
