  • Lenny White is still ahead of our time !

  • Cheech has gone far without chong

  • @seanslingerland LMFAO! ;P

  • I saw them at the Ivanhoe theater on the north side of Chicago in 75' and saw DI Meola at the uptown theater in Chicago in 79' doing his stuff! I play guitar and was blown away! Al has defiantly been a huge influence on my playing style.love the Spanish/classical/rock/fusion influences that he combines to create his own unique style and sound.thanks Al!

  • The troubles with the moog just illustrate that whatever happens, the show must go on! I could see occasional twinkles in the eyes of the other musicians that indicated they knew Chick was struggling, but they just carried on, knowing that he would carry his own part professionally somehow. That's live music for you. Anything can happen. I'm sure there were heavy discussions with the techies after the show!

  • I saw them a year pr two ago in Boston, they had the best live sound..................................

Anyone interested in checking out new fusion from Boston?

    click below.

  • The continuation of soul via instrument. Honest music made by legitimate musicians. This magic has all but changed it's season, only to be rejuvenated by the blessed and introspective. If only this were popular, without being taboo. Then maybe we would be without such blasphemies as Lady Gaga.

  • This is so beautiful!!!!

  • no homo al dimeola is lookin good here

  • I am I the only one that noticed that Chick's minimoog is fuc*& up? Everytime he tried to play it it was screwy. Contacts dirty. He defaulted to the clav and the Odyssey. Where's the keyboard tech?

  • @chizmo7 in those days it was pertnear impossible to keep those synths in tune because of how they were wired. if you cruise the comments of other videos (i know it's mostly trolls) you'll read more qualified people than i explaining it.

  • Tuning isn't the issue. The gold plated key contacts need cleaning. When he goes to play a note, the note freaks out. I've had a Minimoog since 1979 and I know the problem well.

  • @chizmo7 wow thanks for sharing that info!!!

  • 11 dislikes??

  • this is incredible.

  • que groso es Chick Corea!!

  • @mahavishnu018 thanks for sharing this!!!

  • This session needs to be put to DVD and marketed. I have the 2008 Montreux show but find this to be played more in tune to the album, which i prefer. Come on whoever ownes the rights to Old Grey Whistle Test release this to this generation so it will not be lost and forgotten in time. This is skill at it's finest.

  • No jazz , no rock , no punk , no funk its only music .Please people no more gender , only music

  • @cftTURN Ascolta qualcosa di Art Blakey AND JAZZ MESSENGERS ("At The Café Bohemia" del 1955, per esempio) oppure di Gary Thomas AND SEVENTH QUADRANT ("Code Violations" - 1988, o "By Any Means Necessary" - 1989).

VH

  • @spittingblood1234 i agree with you 100 per

  • Saw these guys in 1979 ,San Diego, Ca. Great concert. lioii needs to expand his mind and not have such tunnel vision in music. This is a polite way of saying your an ignorant fool or even better yet a dumb ass with an IQ of about .000001.

  • Thank fuck for punk rock!

  • @lioii

You know, son, people who really love music can dig both RTF and The Sex Pistols. You reveal yourself as one of the small brained and emotionally stilted among us with your remark. Try to get some education before you die, eh?

  • @Pizuzuzimmer I see that your humour bypass operation was a complete success...

  • @lioii

No, I recognize and appreciate well-delivered humor. Yours was badly conceived and ineptly handled, hence my reaction.

  • @Pizuzuzimmer Ya wouldn't recognise well-delivered humor (sic) if it kicked ya in the bollocks!!!

  • @spittingblood1234 I Agree!!!!!!! Nicely said! This is AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • who is the guitar player???

  • Nice upload, thanks.

  • Moog ain't acting right!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I TRIED TO KILL MYSELF THE FIRST TIME I HEARD THIS

  • @sirrich0608 It's the bad guitar synth tone, does that to people

  • @axsys212 Glad you didn't do it!

  • Man...Lenny's hi-hat work is darn sweet!!

  • Great collection of virtuoso musicians, great music.

    @Rexicano

Your pseudo-intellectual snobbery is unbecoming in one so clearly lacking in musical taste. Please have someone cut off your hands, sparing us from further inanity.

  • To think, Al was hired by chick from a tape.

  • Heartbroken today, as I learned that Chick was a devout scientologist :(

  • Romantic Warrior is got to be one of the best albums ever produced.

  • @spittingblood1234 So horribly true.

  • STANLEY CLARKE!

  • Outstanding

  • Chicks MOOG synthesizer was acting up, but the Lenny, Al & Stanley played right through it and never missed a beat. I have always loved this track. Peace

  • every time i hear this song it makes me want to orgasm in so many ways. so freaking awesome!! :D

  • Forgive the schpetics .... and Al DiMeola is ...???

  • great

  • the voltage control oscillators didn't like the house current, Moog had a hissy fit

  • @PhuckHue2 hehe hissy fit, poor chick kept tryin for a minute...

  • Awesome. Thanks for sharing Tony. Nadine

  • cool stuff!!

  • This was one of my favorite bands in high school, I'm only 21 and nobody was listening to this kinda stuff. This band paralles the Mahavishnu Orchestra, although I think the Mahavishnu used more complicated time signatures. I think this band is more in tune w/ the idea of universal love than the Mahavishnu was though.

  • Love Lenny White's southpaw style.

  • one of my favorites from a band of musical geniuses-Return to Forever!

  • Boom! Nice 'tash and 'fro combo there Chick.

  • dit is zo geweldig

  • Jimi Hendrix relation on Bass?

  • @masterofscotland Stanley Clark

  • Victor Wooten played this song at bass day 98 right?

  • LOL Moog troubles at 0:37...and 2:08, 2:27, 5:52, 7:16...

  • @paperpichu Yeah man...he's scramblin' with the pots...nothing like forgetting to set your patch right before a tune, lol.

  • @QueryMeThis,

A lot of older-school players (60's & 70's) did real-time dynamics (volume) and EQ (tone) manipulation via thir knobs/pots. One "preset-patch" wasn't enough tonal-variation to span a long fusion-song for a guy like Al DiMeola! Remember, there were NO "patches" in 1976! You had ONE sound, and maybe a couple of variations with effects/foot-pedals...Once the 80's rolled around, (and guys could "program" several "patches,") there was a serious decrease in "knob-fiddling!" - LOL!

  • 4:20 on is just brilliant.

  • I'M LOVIN' THIS SOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!

  • THIS PEICE WAS USED IN THE 70'S PUMPING IRON MOVIE :)

  • I would say Chick looks like Mario Bros with that magnificient pornstache.

  • @Jcc477

yeah, totally! a whole cock sucker

  • @aperisimo Corea AINT a cock sucker.

  • @Jcc477

    if you say so...

  • Chick Corea is totally a leader man...

  • Jazz will never be the same. These pieces were timeless, creative and fun. It brings back so many good memories. Chick Corea, Return to Forever, Stanley Clarke, DiMeola, Jean Luc Ponty...these are the greats. No disrespect to jazzmen of the past or present...they redefined Jazz to what we have today. Thanks to all of you!

  • that bass line at 0:56 reminds me of bulb (Misha) from periphery

  • " Stanley !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

  • lov'n it funky!

  • Lenny White effortlessly plays drum's

  • Now this is a blessing of a video, thank you Maha!! chic is playing with the music and it still sound's good lol!!

  • Now this is a blessing of a video, thank you Maha!!

  • merveilleuse prestation! ils ont participés a la création du jazz rock, une des grandes oeuvres de c.coréa! des maitres pour moi! didier d'agostino batteur sur youtube.

  • as a keyboardist i can sympathise with Chick and how fucking shitty that minimoog sounds at the beginning of this piece.I dont know if u r at all familiar Mr. stratabuserwith how temperamental those old analog synths were and now how coveted they are but I really like the modern models.Chick, other than this has always had his analog shit dialed in,at least all i heard.I hated takin them fuckers on stage and never quite knowing what u were going 2 get until.....alot of the new ones r sweet tho

  • return to forever? if i were chick id return to the music store where i bought that piece of shit minimoog and ask for my money back...

  • CHICK COREA IS SICK AS FUCK

  • Love the music but hate how they obscure Al's hands in most of his solo.

  • di meola!

  • Mr. Clarke is smoove as all heck with the turtle neck and bell bottom pants, and 'da fro...gotta love the 70's

  • Everyone let us brag just how profound this guy is on guitar and then forget about his songs when we wake up in the morning. Such a talented guitarist, such a typical, pathetic song writer. Who care who fast and precise this guy or any guy like him can strum and pick the guitar? The truth is that his songs suck and that is the bottom line. Sure he is ultimately talented...........but jazz and this type of extra-terrestrial guitar work doesn't sell because one never remembers the song or sound!

  • What's the best album to buy to start listening to this band?

  • @godak Get "Romantic Warrior" Album on CD or Whatever.

  • @godak NO MYSTERY! nuff said...funky, epic, and just down right nasty!

  • @godak returns, their 2008 album. it has easier stuff to get into, also some more acquired taste tracks.

  • @godak -In my opinon, Stanley Clarke's solo records from the mid to late 70's. Most of the guys from RTF show up on all the records, but there are also brilliant spots with guys like John MacLaughlin, George Duke and many more. Check out the 'School Days' record. MacLaughlin and Clarke make magic.

  • @axsys212 Agreed. "School Days" is a phenom.

The last cut with Billy Cobham is amazing. Don't make 'em like this no mo.

    Thanks for posting!

  • @PlymouthVT For real, everything Stanley was doing solo through '78 or so was magic. It got a little weird in the 80's, but thankfully he's been back making great music for some time now.

  • The one guitarist looks like Lynch from Kayne and Lynch

  • this is f**ckin brilliant, gets better with age....

  • Man, this stuff is wayyyyyyyyyy off the hook! Thanks, y'all! B.

  • hahaha, Chick looks like Mario in casual wear.

  • Something happens to Chick's Keyboards at 2:15. . . he quiclky moves into the other one bellow. . . maybe because of 70's technology. . . amazing performance

  • @rubendrakkar

nah, he just switches keyboards for different sounds.

  • @rubendrakkar Its a minimoog synth, with all those knobs i'm not surprised something went wrong! The settings must out been all messed up

  • I like it forever.......

  • First RTF album I ever bought, and still my favourite. I saw this on TV when it was first played, including the moog getting out of control :)

  • man, Lenny White is awesome, anyone ever hear Astrol Pirates??? solo album with great solo's

  • Stanley and Lenny = funkorific!

  • Check out 1:01... It's Al Di Meola doing his thing! He starts his solo... and then builds into an unbelievable alternate-picking frenzy!!! I've been trying to play like Al for 25 years and still can't do it!!!

  • @phrygian3rd Actually he's double-picking (playing each note twice), and he's going nowhere with it as usual. Oh, and I could play that when I was a baby.

  • @gmdinformation hes picking each note only once with alternate picking as phrygian3rd stated

  • @andymcguitar Oh he is not! He's obviously double-picking nearly everything just like he always has. It's the only thing he's ever been known for.

  • seen them in concert in 08. Best skilled musicians I have heard thus far

  • God I love it all. But when if Stanley Clarke was saying I am new messiah, i would have to think about it.

He fills the room and the canvas. I love this,

  • fucking awesome!!!

  • Too bad the minimoog took a shit... and KL was not around.

  • You can totally hear how Al's playing was a huge influence on Frank Gambale's

  • This was REAL MUSIC! Their isn't much of it on radio these days.

  • @jaygresh Don't even turn that garbage on. The radio is only good for traffic reports and sports highlights these days.

  • Dig the call and response between Chick and Al 6:10-640

  • Fantastic

  • LEGALIZE Marijuana please enjoy our time together

  • Lovin Corea's reference to Latin jazz with a quasi montuno (4:30) and those 8va's that he uses. This sound is still very popular (the way he voices his chords and etc on piano.)

  • @holygroove2 yeah he is right on that groove! thanks for pointing it out!

  • Drummer Lenny White's great composition. Looks like the Minimoog was having problems or the panel settings were inappropriate - Corea had to play the synth lines on the Clavinet.

  • don´t forget the amazing rythm machine behind al and chick, stan and lenny are awesome too...

  • Please, tell me where can I download full version of this video with this quality sound? Because I have downloaded in Emule but with bad sound quality. Thank you much. Excuse my English, hehe, regards, Tony.

  • SIMPLE GREAT!

  • did chick ever use a melletron i know rick wakeman used one and the guy from yes also put it to good use

  • Please don,t forget al de meola a very underated guitar player

  • He certainly was not undrrated.

  • haha at 7:08 I can't help but feel this is what's going through Chick's head

"Ok lets adjust some settings...ummm...I hope thats good gotta play!"

  • Vanguard Fussion... stills rockig........

  • dream team

  • In 1980 I was a 13 year old drummer. I hung out and jammed with my musician friends and we discovered Jazz Fusion along with this record. Today my friend plays guitar with Lenny White. Amazing.

  • This is a great cut from a great album! Good stuff to put in the car CD player and turn waaaay up!

  • they are the pro-est possible

  • DUDE THEY GOT THE RIGHT TO BE FAT!!!!

  • hahaha sure...

    just kidding...

  • 0:46 & 2:14 lol

    is the bass distorted?

compare Corea, Clarke, and White in this video with them in present... gain so much weight..

  • @r3ck0rd it sounds like he has new strings and the treble all the way up

  • @r3ck0rd oops -actually it looks like hes playing through a guitar amp

  • Stanley Clarke plays a higher range bass called piccolo.. he does a lot of solos so he is not a traditional bass player.. his sound is more guitar oriented.

  • He is funky though...keeps the groove like Verdine.

  • @rockjohnson80 absolutly.. do not mis-understand me.. i think Mr. Clarke is one of the greatest musicians we have ever known. I own many many recordings of his. very inspirational.

  • this reminds me of my lp when i first heard this type of music kids at school poked fun because the new wave had hit but being a drummer i liked this i was into this and the dixie dregs

  • This is my favorite one b/c they REALLY get into that funk feeling. They tend to be on the more rockish side of things, but that's what so great about fusion. Love the tight funk feeling here.

  • hahahaha, minimoog fail fo sho!

  • Greatest fusion band and album.

I listen this music when i was 10 yrs old.

  • Beyond Awesome

  • in this age of guitarists, Di Meola still is a timeless master.

  • @inappropriatereactor I completely agree, but the only thing I don't like about his style is that he holds the pick awkwardly. His hand is in like a claw... But, that doesn't mean that he's not good. He's fantastic!

  • @inappropriatereactor And he still rocks that goofy-ass hair cut like a champ.
