Well, naturally I would'nt know since I've never seen nor played D.C before. Yet, I feel like I've heard the chorus part before. Not D.C, but another anime.
Animals that turn themselves into humans, a romance story set in a supernatural setting, for goodness sakes the names of the series;both dealing with music and used symbolically. there are others but need i say more?
Uh... yes. "Animals that turn themselves into humans", "romance story set in a supernatural setting", and titles that have to do with music are by no means elements unique to Kanon. Hell, if those were your qualifications, then Kanon is a cheap rip-off of Dragon Knight, Tenchi Muyo, and Mezzo Forte (all predate Kanon -- look it up), respectively. Your nebulous generalizations being cited as "ripped off" elements don't have a leg to stand on.
For something to be considered a "cheap rip-off" of another, it needs to have copied characters and plot elements wholesale. That's not the case with D.C. and Kanon -- they have no more in common than the fact that both were harem galge that dealt with the supernatural (and they vary in degree there -- Kanon was heavier on the supernatural than D.C.). None of that is even remotely unique to either series, and therefore totally flimsy basis for anyone to cry "rip-off" about.
rip-off -_-. and whats sadder is that "Da Cappo" as a name for the series. the kanon visual novel set the standard for visual novels after it came out. D.C is a good example of devs trying to recreate kanon's magic...oh girls with bodies alot younger than their actual age-Ayu anyone?
Now you sound totally like an obsessed Key fanboy trying to call everything a Kanon rip-off to make your favorite series sound holier. Kanon isn't bad (though IMO Air, Planetarian, and Clannad are all better), but it "set the standard for visual novels?" What? When Japanese categorize the evolution of the galge genre, the benchmark of the modern "Ren'ai Adventure" phase is To Heart (which pre-dates Kanon by two years), not Kanon.
Also, your list of elements that quantify as, uh, "Kanon's magic" (by which I assume you're stipulating they're unique to Kanon) is growing ridiculous. Girls who look younger than their actual age is now a Kanon innovation? Really? Sasami, anyone? Heck, I could track that "innovation" back to the age of Tezuka Osamu... so I guess Kanon is trying to recreate the God of Manga's magic! Rip-off!
bah u know what? u win they really aren't alike bcuz kanon is better in pretty much every category; character development being a huge one. and i'm not an obsessed Key fanboy but i admire KyoAni's work. you've made yourself the D.C. fanboy by sinking to insults and you're wasting your time defending a series that was not well recieved by critics (i'm still looking for a bad review of Kanon06 btw)Watching D.C. was a mistake imo but i'll just skip it and move on..hey! thats what a Da Cappo is ;)
Uh huh. I'm a D.C. fanboy simply because I poked holes in your fallacious arguments. Sure, whatever. And I see now that you've regressed to the "Kanon is just better" argument; well, that's your opinion, and you know what they say about opinions -- like assholes, everybody has one.
P. S. -- "Watching D.C. was a mistake imo but i'll just skip it" is a huge oxymoron. You can't skip something that you've watched. Get tripped up by your own (lack of) logic much?
Also, I fail to see where I'm "sinking to insults"; I called you an obssessed Key fanboy but 1) it's obvious that you are; only a deluded fanboy would come up with the ridiculous list of supposedly "ripped-off" elements you did. "Obssessed fanboy" is not an insult either... I myself am obssessed about many series and a fanboy of even more, and I'm not ashamed of the fact.
And by the way, how can i be a Key fanboy when i've never played any of the games and i thought Air's ending was too big for its own shoes. Like i said i admire KyoAni's work. based on my research Clannad does seem to be the better visual novel and thats fine with me as i'm patiently awaiting After Story(anime)but as far as the anime go kanon is the best of the 3 for me so far. After Story might change that but only time will tell. oh and i'm just gonna skip the regret
If you haven't even played any of Key's games, then why're you running around trumpeting Kanon as the BEST SERIES EVAR? Good lord. You do realize that the Kanon anime storyline (both of them) are missing a lot compared to the game storyline, right?
sigh i'm getting tired of this. i never said kanon was the best series ever, i can judge an anime by just looking at the anime itself. now lets end this
P. S. -- reviews are also like assholes, everybody has one. It takes 30 seconds to Google up a negative review of Kanon -- about the same amount of time it takes to find a positive review of D.C. ~Da Capo~. Honestly, Kanon was a decent show (the game was much better than either shows, and since I've played the game and was a translation checker/editor for DAF when we subbed the first series, I'd know), but you need to go play Planetarian and Clannad to see what Key's best work is really like.
wrong. the only time i saw a negative review of kanon06 was on a forum and not a serious review site. you are clearly burned over what i said about D.C. and i don't see why. Also you said the other elements i mentioned are in other series duh! but you matched one element with one series to prove your point. i was talking about all those elements in one show you dummy. Tenchi Dragon Knight and Mezzo Forte do not have all of these devices in them therefore it makes no sense mentioning them
As for the matching of elements -- again, please demonstrate you have enough intelligence to realize that I'm less matching you point-for-point than pointing out how ridiculous your criteria are (I'm still laughing about the "title that has to do with music" one). Almost all of the elements you cited are RAMPANT in anime and games; it doesn't matter how many show up in another show, because it's all been done hundreds of times before.
And as for the total count of matching elements... you really want to play that game? Do you want me to tell you how many elements of plot, setting, and execution Kanon has in common with To Heart, just to pluck a random example? It's called being part of the (harem galge adaptation) genre, for crying out loud.
Personally I would have preferred using either the 1st season OP of Da Capo, or even better the OP of the D.C. game. Even so, this was extremely well done, and I still think it's worth a 5 out of 5! Very well done indeed :D
thanks for a well put together video!
