  • Goosebumps. Nuff said

  • Hey can someone msg this Arkansas boy and explain to me the meaning of t his awesome GBS song? And if you want to send me a bottle of Screech and a Cod, I'd love to be screeched in!!! :)

  • @ThePaleHorseman5

It's sort of self-explanatory by the lyrics- it's an ode to chemical and processing workers, especially those of the industrial revolution up through the 1960's shitly regulated.

  • i am proud to be a newfoundlander thumbs up if you agree

  • I'm a Canadian but i also consider my self as a newfoundlander

  • @tanabelle its CALLED STFU! noone wants to read the same spammed crap about music taste. for fucks sake

  • @tanabelle bud, if ur ganna post that kinda thing on this video, atleast have great big sea in that list.. dumbass..

  • Comment removed

  • @1nicknick599 that would be rather insulting to GBS though, they are too good to be mentioned in a sentence with any of the new pop artists.

  • the chorus for my school did this with just the guys and it was AMAziNG. it's been three days and this is the only song ive listened to

  • Okay, I like the video but Dang It, this song has just stuck in my head. Thanks.

  • Wonderful song!

  • good music, don't care either way about the video. Thanks for introducing the song to me.

  • I'd like to dedicate this song to the recently rescued miners in Chile

  • nice song and video

  • An English song , written about the old I.C.I (Imperial Chemical Industries) in TEESSIDE , North East England .

  • i love this song, but i dont' watch the show. regardless, i still like it.

  • wrong song choice..........one of my favorite songs and my favorite show............the song has absolutely nothing to do with the show................try October Sky.........not Supernatural.......nice try though

  • @emysue1992 october sky would have been great with this song.

  • I agree with Lren2365, and the other tab should be directed to porn

  • i luvs tis band! dey is by far the bes canadiean band ever by's!! luvs ya newfies!

  • @koolkat7406 They're not Canadian. They're from Newfoundland

  • @LilacElf8582 Um Newfoundland has been a proud part of the Dominion of Canada since 1949, thanks to ol' Joey Smallwood if memory serves. Their parents may not bave been born Canadian, but they are definitely Canadians.

  • @frankjames6666

Didn't know that. Either way, it's a great band I wish more people knew about

  • @frankjames6666 last province to join confederation

  • @frankjames6666 The problem however with calling them Canadian, is that Newfoundlanders feel separated from Canada by more than an ocean. Many of us do not like confederation. The vote for said confederation was very close to not being passed. Newfoundlanders as a rule are proud to a fault. we have patriotism to our province far more than our country. I, as many of my fellows, am a Newfoundlander first and a Canadian a distant second.

Therefore, they are a Newfoundland band.

  • could be worse off.could be a yankee band

  • @Masterkavi I'm Nova Scotian, and still call them a "Newfoundland band"

  • @Masterkavi While I understand what you say and can understand wholeheartedly, Newfoundland is in trouble. As a nation we help each other and Newfoundland needs us and my tax dollars. I'm sure you would help me too in my hour of need.

  • @CDNSMOKEJUMPER Newfoundland is not actually in trouble at the moment. We are considered a "have" province and have gained quite a bit of wealth from the oil off the shore and the rich mineral deposits on the land. We still need Canada, just as Canada needs us. Our tax dollars collectively help all involved in the nation, just as yours do.

But, that does not make me feel Canadian. We are separated by generations more than by water. Canada has always viewed NL as an outsider, so we are one.

  • @Masterkavi I'm proud to consider all of you as Canadian, even if you might be the most unique Canaidans around! That's a good thing, though! NL adds so much character to Canada!

  • @CDNSMOKEJUMPER Harper has said that our vote does not matter, and it hardly does. Newfoundland was split almost even over confederation. 49 to 51%, I believe. And that was only on the second time the vote was taken. I mean, Canada day is celebrated on the anniversary of our provinces most tragic historical date. The day that likely forced us into a position for confederation. We are hardly a province involved in Canada, and have been shunned traditionally.

  • @CDNSMOKEJUMPER

I don't know where you've been, but the oil is nearly limitless in Newfoundland and Labrador..

NL is currently a HAVE province, meaning that it pays in to Ottawa to subsidize other, less fortunate provinces..

Ontario, on the other hand, is a HAVE NOT province.

  • @LilacElf8582 lol...nfl is canadian wether ya like it or not....dont be sounding like a quebecker now eh...lol

  • what does "supernatural" have to do with "The Chemical Workers' Song"?

  • I have never seen this tv show, is it good?

  • I like it. Slow start, but as the episodes roll by, it becomes very involving and a good watch =)

  • I like it. It's a cool bit of modern supernatural/horror-fantasy, with some good character development and interesting storylines. Recommended!

  • does anybody know what movie this is

  • its a Tv show its called supernatural

  • This song goes through my mind all the time at my job at the local supermarket. that sounds like ajoke, but it seriously is the worst thing i have ever had to do. i cannot stand the time i waste serving them

  • @MeTsRoCkMySoCk13

I just had a conversation with my woman about that. She feels the same way. Bleak and miserable. I felt the same way before I was unemployed for a year. And I know I'll feel the same way once I'm employeed again.

  • story of my working life

  • What did you do?

  • I used to work in a meat packing plant and now im a fuel truck driver. i hate the fact that i have to get up to the alarm everyday to go to a job that i hate for measly pay ....... unfortunately im not alone in this struggle ..... millions of people do this everyday ......... always remember that you go to work every single day of your life to improve the quality of life for someone else. fortunately we all have the power to change that .....

  • Aye.

My father and my mother broke their backs for the past 40 years to make sure their kids had a 12 year education, and didn't have to work to pay for their own food, but because we wanted to.

When I was little I always wondered what drove them to wake up 4:31 in the morning every day instead of easily cheating the system.

Then i got older and knew of people who had kids when just 9 months prior they were kids themselves.

  • @ztscpetor

I agree with what you're saying. But I'm not sure we do have the power to change that. Please elaborate.

  • We ( as a civilization ) have the power and ambition to change our lives for the better .... unfortunately there are people in this world who are less fortunate than others and this opportunity is not available to them..... what im saying is have a vision and dont be afraid to chase it down ..... if the situation that you are in is not working for you .... then change it ..... if you feel that you are stuck in a rut and see no way out .....

  • personally for me im working on something that may be better for me and my family ...... crosses fingers ...... I was once asked what my dream job would be .... my answer is that i dont want a 'job' nor do i want a career ....... if i look forward to getting up to the alarm every morning and doing something that i love and getting paid well for it ...... then that for me is the way to go ......... if you are miserable where you are IT WILL affect every aspect of your life

  • to be honest the stress from work is not only affecting my outlook but it is affecting my home life and my social life ... things I hold dear, and knowing that no matter how hard i try to get ahead at my current profession it is all in vain and all i end doing is falling further behind. its time to change ...... think about that next time your boss cuts hours to save a few pennies and then goes out and buys a new car/house/vacation when you can barely put food on the table

  • there is opportunity out there ....... and its not just about money ..... its about happiness ....... and in our society having enough money to do what you want when you want and not have to worry about it leads to happiness ...... because you can experience and get out of this life what you want/need. simply put if your not happy where you are .... don't be afraid to change it ........ i hope that sounds right

  • Cheers CloverLad.

  • The best video to see the bodhran (pronounced bow-rawn) is the "Old Polina" video.

He also uses it a lot in "Excursion around the bay."

I took my bodhran when I saw them live hopeing he would sign it, but I never got the chance to ask him... Bummer..

  • its used alot in the video donkey riding

  • The 'bone' is also known as a 'tipper'

  • I'm a Union Boilermaker and this song is an ANTHEM for what we do............cyanide and all. Don't be scared though, it's hard work but it pays well. CHEERS

  • dudette and you're welcome :-)

  • what kind of drum is in this song???

    (please reply) :)

  • It's a bodhran, a type of hand held irish drum. Check out Great Big Sea's official "captain Kidd" video, I know he's shown playing it there, or pretty much ANY live video.

    :-)

  • ty dude (or dudet) :)

  • It's a bodrhan drum. An irish flat drum. Hand held, and played with a "bone" .

    Look it up.

  • look up the song donky riding and pick the first video the who goes wah ha and a way we go is holding the bodrun

  • Here's my solution to the lack of a proper video, play the music, bring up a new tab and do somethign else while the music plays.

May god keep th esouls of those brave men, who earned too little for their lives.

  • thats what im trying to do, its not as easy to get into a mine now as it used to be ...

  • Freaking Awesome! I didn't know that GBS did a version of the chemical works song!

  • yay supernatural!

  • i dont see wtf the vid has to do with the song

  • It doesn't. That costs the video its merit and makes it difficult to watch for people who actually listen to the lyrics.

  • bout timeeeee i found the full song on here, thankkkk youuuuuu, on of their best songs by farrrr

  • Really like this song! :) Thanks for putting it up.

  • It's nice to have this song on youtube, but seriously this video doesn't fit at ALL.

  • lots of people do songs that they didnt write. If the artist isnt saying 'omg i wrote this all credit goes to me and noone else!' then i fail to see why everyone gets so worked up about it. Its a cover. Covers exist. By the millions. Live with it. Besides, that beautiful accent of theirs gives it a rather haunting effect IMHO. ^_^

  • I love this song! A cover was done by the Dust Rhinos (from Winnipeg). It's on a disc called "Second Set" and it's pretty much a CD with covers. Is Celtic Rock! Gives the song a bit of kick! I like it either way! :D

  • Evans and Doherty do a really good version of this, off of "Sailors on an Asphalt Sea". Wonderful album all around.

  • i know he has recently writen 2 extrta vurses n besides he wrote this song while he waz actually working ther

    \

  • Lots of people have done this song. Lojo from Gallowglass, for example... I just love the song.

  • No one claimed it to be the original...least of all GBS. Ron Angel wrote it in 1964 at the age of 31 (going by nikandtom's info) either while he was a part of or after leaving the Teesside Fettlers. Hamish Imlach also sang this song before GBS(year unknown most likely before 70s). As for missing verses, well seeing as how they're going from probably the original lyrics set down back in 1964 I'd have to say that they are not missing any verses.

  • That's not much of a surprise, GBS has many "traditional" songs in their repertoire, much less songs written a couple decades before they came about, that doesn't make the songs bad, it just means GBS aren't the geniuses who wrote it originally is all

  • yes, nut i don't believe that a song is "wrong" because it is not the original.

  • Not to mention, they improvise upon that music.

  • i havent listen to thes songs in a long time but i know every word because i used to listen to them when i was little

  • I've been singing this song twice a da for the ast two weeks. Woot!

  • This type of music is part of my roots because I was born and raised in the maritime/atlantic provinces of canada. Good song, video and band.

  • song is good

    video not so much

  • awesome, i love this song

  • One of my favourite songs...but the video didn't fit well...

  • This video is great

    I like the song ;-)
