  • WTF? :(

  • lol

  • lol

  • Reminds me of Brawl's online play.

  • Reminds me of brawl in general.

  • Well, there's tri-- *trips*

  • **sigh* Tripping. Other than that and Online, Brawl is really good.

  • The developers spent so much time putting in trivial gimmicky features that they forgot to add good gameplay... But that's just my opinion. We're all entitled to our own opinions, so arguing with me on this won't get anyone anywhere. Let's just say I like playing smash games competitively, so my opinion is that Brawl fails, and leave it at that.

  • You can't assume Brawl's competitive side is done developing.

There's more variety in Brawl, and there's more discovered technical skills in Melee.

The fact is, however, that Melee had gamebreaking techs discovered late in its development, and so may Brawl.

Despite all this, Brawl and Melee are different games. Brawl can be played more aerial now because of the now-useful air dodge. Melee was always about the ground, and no one can deny it.

Just leave the discussion to 7 years from now >.O

  • You do realize that gamebreaking techs are banned, right? Advanced techniques [AT's] might be the term you're looking for. Bridge of Eldin's Infinite Final Smash glitch with ROB is an example of gamebreaking. While items wouldn't be used, my point still remains. DAC isn't banned, and is an AT.

In my opinion, it's even harder to fight in the air simply because everyone can air-dodge through everything to get on the ground. Almost everyone who plays brawl does that now.

  • You can airdodge but you're not invincible right after nor before you do. I meant ground-breaking, something that evolves the gameplay to make it include some different strategies (like wavedash in melee). Sure there are AT's but some of them are rather useless.

  • Ah, okay. I see what you're saying. Techs that are actually useful. Also, I know you can air-dodge and you're not invincible at the times you stated, but it's done so often that you don't ever see any real fights in the air. You rarely ever see people trying to trade hits in the air, unless one is recovering. You just see them airdodge and land back onto the ground. Unless my eyes are broken, it seems like it's opened up too much of an opportunity to avoid air-based fights, to fight on ground.

  • Yeah you're right. There's no more slow juggling, if you want to keep an opponent in the air you have to read him like a book, and generally the attacks characters have dictate that being the one on the ground is the stronger point. Plus, shielding works better now too.

  • Mmhmm. Imo, I loved back when you could juggle the hell out of your opponent. Now basically you'll get lucky if you get two or even three hits off, and maybe more if your opponent is predictable as you stated already, which is true.

I also agree on the shield point. It pretty much works TOO good, now. Now that shield stun is gone, shield grabbing is extremely easy and it's unsafe to attack someone who is shielding. Generally, the shielder has more of an advantage than the person who's attacking.

  • You can shield spike, many attacks have multiple hits incorporated to counter that effect. If you see a shield grab coming you can do something about it.

  • There is definitely not more variety in Brawl. Brawl has few, even arguably no combos. A fighting game without combos is just obscure. ATs are a non-issue; bringing them up to defend your point is grasping at the air. No AT will make Brawl technically demanding, now or in 7 years. A fighting game that isn't technically demanding lacks an entire face of depth to it.

  • Face depth?

You mean face value. There is plenty of depth to it.

It's an opinion who wins the argument because that's what the argument is overall.

  • Learn to read. "A fighting game that isn't technically demanding lacks an entire face of depth to it." Face, as in facet, as in element, any synonym you want. Technical skill is an element in every fighting game, and for you to argue that Brawl has more variety than Melee is laughable when you consider that Brawl lacks an entire fighting game element. Who wins an argument is not up to opinion; it's up to who uses logic. You've shown repeatedly that you're unable to.

  • I only referred to the argument directly because someone else did, I'm not meaning to be as hostile as you...to be honest I could care less because I enjoy Brawl and that's that.

I always cared for the feeling I got when I landed a great combo in Melee. With that I agree.

Sure the chain-together moves in Brawl are not so seemingly "skillful" combo's but they're utilitarian enough for me to enjoy their variety of uses.

I'm past the whole "OMG I pressed this button combination on you!" mindset.

  • Consecutive moves in Brawl are not combos. Stop being logically fallacious. The entire reason I bring up this point about Brawl is to show that Melee has everything Brawl has in competitive play, plus combos. There is no argument for Brawl being "past" Melee in any way. "I'm past the whole 'OMG I pressed this button combination on you!' mindset" is both ad hominem and senseless. Accept that you were wrong and didn't know what you were talking about when you said Brawl has more variety.

  • You need to chillax. There's no reason to impose an opinion on me, it's not happening man. I liked Melee for 7 years and now I like Brawl. So what if the opponent can actually react to your combo's now...is that really so much worse than having the opponent debilitated by almost every hit-stun effect?

  • Changing your argument doesn't make you any less wrong. What you said is already there: Brawl has more variety than Melee. Telling me you enjoy Brawl more doesn't clean up the irrational mess you made in your initial statement. You can say a 100 true things after me, but that won't correct the 1 wrong one.

  • Lol dude...you just summarized this argument, let go of the one point you got and get some new one. I honestly do believe there's more variety in Brawl than Melee because I still haven't experienced all the character matchups of Brawl with even a single character. Face it, there's more characters in Brawl and little to no clone. As for Melee, well we've played it for 7 years so its hard to say there'll be challenges to face that we haven't somewhat faced before.

  • I'll commend you for actually staying on subject and trying to defend your point this post around, but reread what you wrote and look at my analysis. Your reasons are so irrational it's silly, and I think you're aware of this.

"I still haven't experienced all the character matchups of Brawl with even a single character." By that logic you would have to agree if I said any game is deeper than Melee because I haven't played it yet.

  • "As for Melee, well we've played it for 7 years so its hard to say there'll be challenges to face that we haven't somewhat faced before." You're essentially saying that Brawl has more variety because it's fresh. By that logic I could say that every new game that comes out is the most challenging in the world because the challenges in all other games are already familiar.

  • My point has developed, and I choose not to dwell in past posts to try and ascertain some "correct position".

All I want to get out of this now is the point that Brawl has more to experience now than Melee has left.

I don't have nor want to spend the time to reread all my posts. I don't care if I sounded like a babbling idiot but the fact that this is still going on is quite saddening to me.

Stop giving me the "my logic > yours" argument. This isn't a competition on my end, just on yours.

  • "All I want to get out of this now is the point that Brawl has more to experience now than Melee has left."

Again, you digress from the original point you argued. This is not at all the same as saying Brawl has more variety. It's too bad that disagreement is so saddening to you. Don't try to cop out by saying it isn't a competition; you made it so by arguing a point in the first place. You've had to eat those words, and now you're remorseful.

  • I doubt you're serious when you say that. Really, if you even begin to project a feeling like remorse onto me over a little passing the time on youtube you got more issues than I can dream of.

Sorry Cort for spamming your vid, though I guess that was your plan in the first place...seeing as melee v brawl debates are dead-end ones that can continue on and on and give you a good comment-count.

  • Again, you can't read for meaning. It wasn't Melee vs. Brawl it was reason vs. avoiding reason. And for the record Cort likes me more.

  • What I wanted to actually get out of an argument was some incite on the whole Brawl vs. Melee front. If someone else had interjected, perhaps that would have happened.

It appear that you, on the other hand, were arguing for some imaginary goal of winning some "logic" award.

"Again you can't read for meaning. It wasn't Melee vs. Brawl it was reason vs. avoiding reason".

No...It was I who didn't care to argue about any "reason" over youtube because that's just a waste of time.

  • *insight

  • appears*

    Yes, I'm aware.

  • lol, PeachyFoam, just say it like it is:

Melee is deeper/more varied/ more skill based/better in every way competitively than brawl.

Now, which game you have more fun with is a different story. That's all opinion, and is thereby undebateable. It seems like you were trying to make an "I have more fun with brawl argument", which is why you got destroyed by Slashtap's "anyone with half a brain realizes that melee is deeper than brawl" argument.

  • Actually I enjoy Melee more, there I said it. But Melee isn't developing as much anymore, it seems all rehearsed in terms of mindgames and setups now. I think the experimentation in Brawl is more worthwhile considering that it has more development to do than Melee. Or so I think anyway.

  • Darn wrong profile, whoever made and signed in this one on my computer is a jackass!

  • Dude peachy, you lose this argument

  • I'm pretty sure pie is the win.
