Uh, I could be wrong but I think when the pups are so young that they still have an all white coat they haven't yet learn to swim. Did he just drown it thinking he was helping it? I can't tell if the pup is trying to get out of the hole after they put him in or not.

Im surprised doing that is legal. Dont get me wrong, im glad the little guy made it. But rules are pretty strict about not tampering with wildlife and letting nature take its course. Polar bears are struggling to survive and if everyone did this they would starve to death.

@JabberCT - yes there are rules regarding wildlife - but out in the Arctic, I somehow doubt "everybody" would be out there looking for little seals to put back into the water - and that there would be even that many baby seals who have lost their way to make such an action a serious offence or to make a bear starve due to lack of food.

In Canada there are even sanctuaries for seals. And one guy put it plainly that if they don't make sure plenty of them survive to adulthood, there won't be more seals born in the next year to balance out the ecosystem.

Seals don't rely on smell near as much as dogs or cats, and just picking it up like that isn't going to leave a lasting scent, ESPECIALLY considering they put it into water, which would wash off any sent to begin with.
