Is there a difference between the Mayans and the Aztecs.... or were they altogether the same?

@gringodeltoro1 there is a difference between the Mayans and Aztecs. The Aztecs populated Mexico, the yucatan and many other areas of mexico. And the Mayans populated Mexico, Belize, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Honduras and there are also other differences too.

@lOcolatiinO Also there language was very difference, different names for there gods. Aztecs were very heavy on sacrifices as the mayans weren't.

I was wondering, Aztecs are renown for their human sacrifices, and the Mayans are renown for their calendar and their science. Could you tell me more. I'm very curious. Thank you.

to be honest i don't really care so much if the mayans, amongst other mesoamericans, sacrificed people. such cases, aswell as their wars, were highly ritualised and there was no wanton collateral damage or overkill. in contrast, we europeans have always been more destructive. hopefully all that will change in the coming years though.
