Very cool, very cool. I just got my own place that came with some solar stuff, but its on the fritz so i have been looking into how to expand/replace/create my own system at very low cost. unfortunately can make batteries so that will have to be bought. thanks and keep up the good work.
if i have 2 standard 12volt batterys connect to a wind turbine to be charged does this mean the charge controller has to be set to 24v? Also do i have to disconnect the batteries from the wind turbine in order to use their power or can i connect the power invertor up in such a way where i can use and charge at the same time. Any help would be greatly rexcieved. By the way im new to all this.
Do you encapsulate the solar cells with the fancy encapsulating gell? I have a couple solar panels that In use but the cost is too high. I am researching how to build my own panels. Thanks for the video!
When u said u were going to hook it up to ur panel, I hope u meant a 2nd subpanel
You have to use a Ganged disconnect sw inside and have a separate shutoff outside for ur solar & wind devices. So hydro can disconnect all hydro sources when work is required
I hope u have lots of insurance.
To many people I see on the internet r hooking right up to their panel, & some poor hydro worker is going to get fried 1 day. He will have the main power off & u will still be feeding the lines with ur setup.
Hi Caveman. so can you plug in two inverters to a battery bank? I have a 240 watt solar panel with a 920AH bank of battery. My 1500 watt inverter is running everything in my house and im planning to buy a portable electrical stove which i would need another 2000 watt inverter to run the 1500 watt stove, so is it doable to hook an additional inverter to the battery??? Thanks

I like your videos and your website. I understand the connection from the wind turbine to the charge controller to the battery bank but from there how do you supply power from the batteries. Do you use the same battery posts the charge controller is using to feed the batteries? I'm new to all this and have found your video the best! I went to the website but I'm still a bit lost! please help!
@thekingwc The batteries should be the same or you they wont last long. If you have different bats then they will all try to equalize and mess up the good batteries
Hho is great. I'm working on a hot water heater that uses Hho and would love to wind or solar power it. My guess is I need to produce at least 300-500 W to make enough has to heat it.
I'm building a tower that goes up 80 ft and want to put Daisey chained wind generators on them. Can you show how you have your two generators going to the charge controller? Do they each need their own charge controller? How many watts are you getting off one generator/motor.
I have looked at some other videos and most of them talk about the gas that the batteries give off. They were sure to have the batteries properly ventilated if indoors or just place them outside.
Hi I have an(1000VA) inverter which runs in 12vDc I would like to change the battery to 200AH deepcycle and connect a solar panal system to charge it,infact I dont want to connect it to the grid to charge the battery the question is what shuld be the charging voltage and current for the charger controller as we consider the day light is only for 6Hrs to get the power out from solar cells, what capacity the solar panal shuld have...Thank You
Can you explain how you hooked up your batteries in series AND parallel? You hooked up 2 batteries in series to get your 12 volts, but then you just hooked up your other 10 in series? I'm confused how I combine the two..
@jamesc426 what he has done i connected the 10 batteries together by having 5 banks of 2 6volt batteries making 12 volt and the way he has connected the rest is by connecting negative to negative and positive to positive creating the amps i have recently made a video about this have a look you might find it useful hope this helps
you are totally right about how to hook them up i dis some research and worked out that the batteries should all have one wire going in to a single wire
5 batteries doesnt seem nearly enough to me if its all hooked up right... How many is standard? also, when I take the battery charger and hook it up directly to ONE battery it might say the battery is 58% BUT if I hook it up to another it may say 45% and another 79% but if I hook the battery charger to the pos of the 1st and the neg of the 5th it has a 89% so it confuses me to no end.
Also, i am running 1 30 amp charge controller and 1 7 amp controller both connected to the solar kits. I then hookied up the inverter to a off grid fuse box. Everything works and I get electricity BUT it drains FAST. I think I dont have the batteries hooked up right. I think I am draining too quick., I have NOT hooked up the wind generators yet either. I have a battery maintainer/charger hooked as well and a 1250 generator (gas) could you help me in what am i doing wrong please?
HI could you help me as I as so confused at this point. I bought 2 400 watt wind gen. and 2 60watt solar kits with 5 deep cycle marine batteries. the 5000/10000 watt inverter I have has 3 positive and negative posts (that connect to the batteries) I basically jumped the batteries in order 1 goes to 2 which goes to 3 and up to 5. I then took 3 cable sets and went positve to negative on 3 batteries and went to the 3 posts on the inverter but it drains very fast. What am I doing wrong? Help.
are your batteries 12v or 6v. if there 12v then all + should be together and all- should be together. also you inverter, solar and wind should be hooked up on same post on the battery bank. kinda sound like a bad inverter or you are pulling a big load from your batteries. what are you trying to run
the inverter is brand new. all the batteries are 12v marine deep. The inverter is also a sine inverter. I redid the batteries as follows. pos to pos all the way thru the 5 with each battery jumping to the next. one of the things that is confusing me is that the back of the inverter has 3 seperate pos and neg. I had all three going to the first 3 batteries. I now have it with only ONE set of wires from the inverter and going to the FIRST battery (pos) then the last battery the NEG.
also, i have the battery charger/maintainer the same way. 1st battery has the pos. and the 5th battery has the neg. Is that right for starters? Do I need to hook up ALL 3 terminal systems in the back of the inverter? If so, do I follow the same thing? all three pos going to the 1st battery and all the neg to the last battery (5th)? Thank you so much. I am trying to get this system in order before I connect the wind gen. wires to the system. Also, would I do the same for it? THANK YOU
I put a volt meter on it today, spinning it by foot I got 14v DC. I guess the next step is removing the weighted fly wheel and trying to find the most efficient blades. What do you recommend?
I'm starting on a water system first- rain and wel, I'd like to use sun and wind to get it going. to get 'free' water. I wish battery and solor panel teck. would kick in and make the prices go down!
Your doing a good job! I would like to know if you have ever did a payback
on your energy savings? I've been looling at saving money using FREE wind, water and sun. But to save a few bucks it seems to take a lot of time and money and when it finaly would pay for itself you have to start replacing parts like batteries etc. Even With free stuff .
Many people have asked for information on the charge controller that you built but it looks like you have avoided every one of them. Do you have something to hide? I also liked your video and am intersted in the controller. Can you give any info at all as to how or where?
This is great, You're making power from solar and wind, That's so cool. You're also set to be able to use a good kw/h rate of electricity which is practical and not just experimental, Well Done!!
I tell u this as it can be put in2 a switching power supply 2 give u fullpower produced saved in capacitors- very little loss 2 use at adjustable & clean power requirement. an old cheep palm size AA solar charger from 24hr charge 2 blow AA rechargable vent because of 2much power on the same palm size array. over voltage load could be 2 flashlight cell chager(s) & put a relay 2 turn on an ugly load(s), stepping or not. & charge ur cell phone, etc. I thought of this from ideas i've seen
You don't see the PV setups when solar cell of unequal resistance was, Power output is low due to cell bottle necks.
Put together smaller series of cells for lower output voltage. Match them up on a common light test and check PV Piece resistance(matching cells out puts) Now some mismatched .5v cells can be used parallel to put in series for max effect total power (watts output). A voltage multiplier can boost 1.5v or less to a disposable camera flash used 200-300 volts. Coil or capacitor.
wow dude. i keep watching this video over and over. it is just that fricken good. i am just starting into this whole generator thing, as i am only 17 years old. i really love this kind of stuff, and messing with electricity and all that. have you ever messed around with wireless electricity? i've been researching that for a while now. on telsa coils and all that good stuff.
did you consider using your dummy load to Power 12v power NIckel metal reg AAA, AA, C, D, etc. battery packs. Did you ever consider using a voltage multiplier and configure your problem solar panels to parallel and go for pure current and avoid equal ization, resistance issues, all pieces just on one bus. Series solar cells have to be matched to prevent uneven resistance. Voltage multiply your .5v or better to the voltage desired and high current to boot. very useful with varied devices
I use light bulbs as dummy loads on the wind gens because the open voltage can be kinda high. For the solar, all the cells were .5v so I put them in series to make about 17v then put them in parallel for the amps.
I really like the homemade charge conrollers. did you use PC Switcing power supplies?
The man cave will one day run some of your home. You could always hook up seperate AC power panel just off the battery bank. You might even have a stand alone room or rooms one day. You even built a vertical windmill, great for side by side and good in city roof lines. very expensive to buy thanks. great work.
Thanks, i just put the charge controllers in the case because they fit in nice. We actually run more than 50% of the house off the batteries most of the time after i made this video
man I keep watching just this video and dam I wish I new you. I used to collect the micorowaves for making hi voltage sparks and just relized I can stripp the transformer a part and make windings for a genarator and the magnets for the clexktron I might have smelled that wrong but dam lots of good ideas, and I was looking at the left over parts from the tread mill those make good mounting frams for solar pannels ect.
how did you make those chargers. those are sweet I have a lot of spare junk computer power supplyies. do you are cool as hell this is cool I love this stuff. I"m a geek I have a old tread mill motor I want to turn into a generator. you are cool as hell. I have to watch all you videos and sub you as whell and friend if you like you are cool that way I can ask you questions lol
I Like the Idea of a vertical blades. I have just converted a 340 twin cylinder 2 cycle engine into a generator. Now I am trying to think of away to make a cage or some sort of style of vertical much like the shape of an agitator, you find in a washin machine?
good combination...., i want to built wind generator in small scale, would you help me to give macth specification generator, baterry, regulator or ect, cause wind on my country the wind not to hard.
dude ur setup is great, could you show how you should hook the batteries together for the best efficiency, it is kinda hard to tell how you have them hooked up in the mess of wires
Great work! I'm following along the same path as you on most of this. What did you use for the frame on your solar cell? and where did you find the inverter and batteries?
I would like to know...How do you hook your inverter up to your panel..Know one cam give me a straight answer..I have the same inverter you have..2500/5000watts. 120v
Im gonna be making a video here soon and Ill try to explain how I did it in there. But basically all I did was put in a transfer switch which allows me to switch from gid power to battery/inverter power. Also made sure that they were completly isolated from each other so there wasnt any interferance
The simple but not suggested by nec code way to connect a inverter or a generator to your panel is to get 12-3 s/o cord from your inverter or gen hard wired into your panel.....now land them on a 2pole 20 amp breaker and install your neutral white....ground....green....then land your black wire on the breaker ....then put a jumper across both screws /phases KEEP BREAKER OFF a good tip is to get the proper lock out tag devise for that breaker LOCKED I
hey buddy,i got relatives in the ranch were there no electricity they ran salor panels 65 watt , wat you recomend to operate a small medium fridge, they just use 12 volts comercial work aholic interstate 2 to ran 12 volts light bars and 12volts tv old school, and wat type of batt is good to run da system thanks
Fridges are harder to run because they consume so much power. I would use a propane fridge or an energystar fridge. If they dont want to get another fridge then get a few more deep cycle batteries. 6 volt batteries can take a beating better than the 12volt.
This is a pretty informative video. The pointers help me for my home setup. Im in the middle of a new wind turbine for home and a charity case. The only other thing I can think of for info on this would be a schematic diagram. Thank you for the info. MUDD
Did you do anything special to get rid of the hydrogen that comes off of those batteries when you charge them?
Normally solar panels use special low lead glass so it doesn't block the frequencies of light used by the cells. How much of your 70W did you actually get?
We are SENIOD SOLAR PV Super panels factory from China, we make 10-220Watt solar panels with high quality and good price, who want to being our dristributor? please visit 3w dat seniod-solar dat com

@Albigatnz Usually how it works is you charge the batteries during the day and then use the power at night

do you leave the inverter on all the time? It seems like it would draw some strong current and run the batteries down just running with no load?

@CrashTestDummies09 Ya I leave it on all the time. When there isnt a load they dont draw much power

Thanks...

I'm confused how I combine the two..
jamesc426 1 year ago
@jamesc426 what he has done i connected the 10 batteries together by having 5 banks of 2 6volt batteries making 12 volt and the way he has connected the rest is by connecting negative to negative and positive to positive creating the amps i have recently made a video about this have a look you might find it useful hope this helps

@jamesc426 check out my website and i have pics there thats shows.

I have a battery maintainer/charger hooked as well and a 1250 generator (gas) could you help me in what am i doing wrong please?
trying2gogreen 1 year ago
HI could you help me as I as so confused at this point. I bought 2 400 watt wind gen. and 2 60watt solar kits with 5 deep cycle marine batteries. the 5000/10000 watt inverter I have has 3 positive and negative posts (that connect to the batteries) I basically jumped the batteries in order 1 goes to 2 which goes to 3 and up to 5. I then took 3 cable sets and went positve to negative on 3 batteries and went to the 3 posts on the inverter but it drains very fast. What am I doing wrong? Help.
trying2gogreen 1 year ago
are your batteries 12v or 6v. if there 12v then all + should be together and all- should be together. also you inverter, solar and wind should be hooked up on same post on the battery bank. kinda sound like a bad inverter or you are pulling a big load from your batteries. what are you trying to run
hooptejoe 1 year ago
the inverter is brand new. all the batteries are 12v marine deep. The inverter is also a sine inverter. I redid the batteries as follows. pos to pos all the way thru the 5 with each battery jumping to the next. one of the things that is confusing me is that the back of the inverter has 3 seperate pos and neg. I had all three going to the first 3 batteries. I now have it with only ONE set of wires from the inverter and going to the FIRST battery (pos) then the last battery the NEG.
trying2gogreen 1 year ago
also, i have the battery charger/maintainer the same way. THANK YOU
trying2gogreen 1 year ago
Ya sounds like everything is hooked up right. I would guess that for the inverter as well. what does the manual say for those 3 post
hooptejoe 1 year ago
it doesnt. It was very plain that I had to guess at it. The inverter is brand new and used for 2 days now.

1.5 HP
90 V
13.5 A
2400 RPM
Would this be a good motor for a windmill?

It sounds like its good. does it say DC voltage on it or can you spin the shaft with a volt meter on it the wires. If it makes voltage it will work
hooptejoe 1 year ago
Thanks for the reply,
I put a volt meter on it today, spinning it by foot I got 14v DC. I guess the next step is removing the weighted fly wheel and trying to find the most efficient blades. What do you recommend?

Your doing a good job! I would like to know if you have ever did a payback
on your energy savings? I've been looling at saving money using FREE wind, water and sun. But to save a few bucks it seems to take a lot of time and money and when it finaly would pay for itself you have to start replacing parts like batteries etc. Even With free stuff .

I thought of this from ideas i've seen
badphobar 2 years ago
You don't see the PV setups when solar cell of unequal resistance was, Power output is low due to cell bottle necks.
Put together smaller series of cells for lower output voltage. Match them up on a common light test and check PV Piece resistance(matching cells out puts) Now some mismatched .5v cells can be used parallel to put in series for max effect total power (watts output). A voltage multiplier can boost 1.5v or less to a disposable camera flash used 200-300 volts. Coil or capacitor.
badphobar 2 years ago
wow dude. i keep watching this video over and over. it is just that fricken good. i am just starting into this whole generator thing, as i am only 17 years old. i really love this kind of stuff, and messing with electricity and all that. have you ever messed around with wireless electricity? i've been researching that for a while now. on telsa coils and all that good stuff.
but dude awesome video keep up the good work!!

hooptejoe 2 years ago
did you consider using your dummy load to Power 12v power NIckel metal reg AAA, AA, C, D, etc. battery packs. Did you ever consider using a voltage multiplier and configure your problem solar panels to parallel and go for pure current and avoid equal ization, resistance issues, all pieces just on one bus. Series solar cells have to be matched to prevent uneven resistance. Voltage multiply your .5v or better to the voltage desired and high current to boot. very useful with varied devices
thanks
badphobar 2 years ago
I use light bulbs as dummy loads on the wind gens because the open voltage can be kinda high. For the solar, all the cells were .5v so I put them in series to make about 17v then put them in parallel for the amps.

Nice home made equipment.
I really like the homemade charge conrollers. did you use PC Switcing power supplies?
The man cave will one day run some of your home. You could always hook up seperate AC power panel just off the battery bank. You might even have a stand alone room or rooms one day. You even built a vertical windmill, great for side by side and good in city roof lines. very expensive to buy thanks. great work.

I would like to know...How do you hook your inverter up to your panel..Know one cam give me a straight answer..I have the same inverter you have..2500/5000watts. 120v
davcrockett1 2 years ago
Im gonna be making a video here soon and Ill try to explain how I did it in there. But basically all I did was put in a transfer switch which allows me to switch from gid power to battery/inverter power. Also made sure that they were completly isolated from each other so there wasnt any interferance
hooptejoe 2 years ago
The simple but not suggested by nec code way to connect a inverter or a generator to your panel is to get 12-3 s/o cord from your inverter or gen hard wired into your panel.....now land them on a 2pole 20 amp breaker and install your neutral white....ground....green....then land your black wire on the breaker ....then put a jumper across both screws /phases KEEP BREAKER OFF a good tip is to get the proper lock out tag devise for that breaker LOCKED I

Why don't AC motors work with wind generators? If I build bridge rectifiers to convert the AC to DC shouldn't it work just the same?

You can use Magnet Alternators/AC motors and use bridge rectifiers to convert it.

hey buddy,i got relatives in the ranch were there no electricity they ran salor panels 65 watt , wat you recomend to operate a small medium fridge, they just use 12 volts comercial work aholic interstate 2 to ran 12 volts light bars and 12volts tv old school, and wat type of batt is good to run da system thanks
werolivares 2 years ago
Fridges are harder to run because they consume so much power. I would use a propane fridge or an energystar fridge. If they dont want to get another fridge then get a few more deep cycle batteries. 6 volt batteries can take a beating better than the 12volt.

Did you do anything special to get rid of the hydrogen that comes off of those batteries when you charge them?
Normally solar panels use special low lead glass so it doesn't block the frequencies of light used by the cells. How much of your 70W did you actually get?

At the time the basement took care of the gases because it was drafty. Now there in a box and vented outside.
The panel put out 3amps at 21 volts so about 63 watts
