Some rides take about an hour to a couple days set up and take down. Remember that more people die in automobile accidents than on amusement rides. Any ride, whether portable at a fair or permanent at a theme park, is not immune to having an accident. That goes for rider, operator and mechanical accidents.

It looked like the bearings gave out or a bolt came loose, or something, causing it to malfunction like that. Now what if you were on a Flying Bobs or a Gravitron & something gave way? You'd be up shit creek without a paddle, that's for sure!

both buddy. The thing with travelling rides is, sure they get pulled down, and put up. But that way the Showmen can ensure every single bolt is in good nick, check it at every point. before opening a proper check underneath etc. also that way the showmen will know the ride inside out so if anything is going wrong he will know before it happens in most cases :)

The fact is statistically you are in far more danger on your way to the fair than actually on the rides. I am not discounting the horror of being on a ride during an accident, nor the failure of the owners to keep up with safety and maintenance, but an accident on a fair ride is no more horrific than a car accident and no-one is saying nobody should ever drive again because those happen. Don't be so shocked when a machine fails once in a while for whatever reason. Machines aren't perfect either.

Rides are just like any other machine they all break from time to time. Sometimes its of no fault to the park and somtimes it is. Then there is also the rare chance of a defect from the factory.

Read the back of your tickets people esp. the entrance ticket, or the back or season pass.

Yeah they really are, some coasters get millions of riders a year with no incidents. Most carnival rides can resist the strain of being taken down, drove from state to state, and put back together again and pass a state inspection.
