Now when i have heard about the abuse in her childhood it does seems to have something to do with being safe contra unsafe. So the different personalities is a hideout.
So it is still talk therapy that could help her to recover.
Well shortly after she met the teacher she changed her self to another self that fits better to be in his company. So its like she feels more safe being a child when she meets a teacher.
So all in all it could have something to do with safety. Maybe she has been in a shock condition where she felt unsafe.
This is a trip. The girl says it was satanic cults but MANY people believe she is lying and that it is something else? That is weird to me. Why would someone make up the excuse of a satanic cult? If it was a family member then that member was part of this cult. To totally write off what this girl believes to be true is disturbing to me. It's not like she is retarded. Yes she has multiple personalities with some of them young but none are retarded.
There needs to be more people like Ruth, Derek and Mr. Faulkner in the world who don't act repulsed by poor Helen and want to reach out to her. I cannot imagine how lonely it is not only living with the trauma of sexual abuse, but also having a mental illness that nobody understands.
After starting meds I can tell truth from "depression world" like I call it. So if I have thoughts of harming myself or that someone hates me (I can tell now if they really do) is just the depression talking. I pray they find a cure for her disease. :(

And also on my self-esteem, sleeping, eating and exercise habits. I also see a thepist once a month.Anyway, like I said: I can only imagine how it's like when someone else (and not only one but several) is cutting you and so on, but in your body. Depression is like another me and lives in the world I described.
So depression is kinda like a second personality, but it is still me and now I have some control over it. I can't stop the "depression attacks" as I call them, but I can ease them slowly, and I have given up all self-harming (cutting, hitting, etc), including smoking, and I drink only when I feel good and more rarely and less than during the summer. I shouldn't drink at all, it slowes down the anti-depressants. I'm working on it.

Until last summer, the nightmare lasted for weeks. I got a little out from there, and almost 6months ago I started taking meds. Now I can tell truth from false.
@Zinetha I suffer from depression as well. The attacks you're describing are almost the same to the attacks I had. I am recovering as well. I haven't harmed myself in 2 months, so I'm pretty proud. The world you describe is so similar to what I experience, especially the part about thinking you are a bad person and you deserve to suffer. I felt the exact same. I am medication as well. I hope that you are well and I hope we all recover from this. :)

I am a rational, non-theistic person with no belief in the supernatural, but there is a wealth of evidence to support the fact that ritualised abuse, and abuse within cults, happens. It's worth reading about supposed 'False Memory Syndrome' on cwasu.org and the 1994 study for the UK govt of 242 cases of ritual abuse conducted by J. La Fontaine.
@Hidden071 The 80s 'Satanic Panic' was certainly sensationalised, but ritual abuse - i.e: ritualised abuse by groups of abusers and non-consenting adults - is very much a real thing. Some ritual abusers are known to use vague, religious or cultish structures to the abuse, but this is a vague framework, rather than a genuine connection w/ Satan etc. and mostly used to terrify victims/make excuses for abuse.

This is heartbreaking. The different personalities in some way protect Helen from someone or something that hurt and terrified her when she was too young to protect herself. My sense is the ages of the personalities are in some way representative of various traumas she endured at those ages in her life. These personalities keep her in a sense sane because were she to deal with her trauma in an abrupt way, she would most likely totally fragment. There are therapists who can work with this.
Ok, I stopped watching when they started talking about the satanic cults. That was a myth. It was supposedly going on at pre-schools. It was extensively investigated and disproven in the 80's. Chances are, her abuser was a trusted family member or friend. That's why its so hard to face

@arctictimberwolf I think thats just silly. I've had panic disorder since I was little. I went to church, prayed the rosary, confessed my sins & followed the bible. My symptoms got worse & now it's hard to even leave the house. People w/ schizo & MPD have a medical DISORDER that has nothing to do with god or demons. She has MPD b/c the brain saves itself by creating personalities in order to deal with horrific abuse. Instead of suicide or murder, she found a way to cope.

@arctictimberwolf I think some cases of schizophrenia and MPD may be truly mental disorders, and some may be demon possession. I have seen people with these disorders do things that seem humanly impossible to me, so this leads me to think such ones are possessed. Also, there are people with these disorders that say voices or demons told them to hurt or kill themselves or someone else; they even say they are possessed sometimes. Yet, no one believes them.
@arctictimberwolf a lot of people that cut themselves, try to kill themselves, torture and kill other people, and even commit cannibalism claim to be possessed when they do these things. But, everyone says they are just mentally ill. Even Christians claim demon possession isn't real, but the Bible says Jesus cured people of demon possessing. Some say Jesus was really speaking of mental illness. Then why did the bible feel the need to distinguish between "mental illness" and physical illness?
@arctictimberwolf Why would Jesus talk to the demons he exorcised from people, and why would they answer back" obviously, they were real entities that were harrassing these people. If demon possession existed back then, why is it impossible for it to exist now? Besides, many of the people who have this problem (such as the gay serial killer who ate parts of his victims) confess to doing occult rituals. Some people believe hypnosis is an occultic ritual that leaves room for demons into the mind.

The pigs that Christ cast the legion of demons into committed suicide because they would rather die than deal with demons. Demons can possessed persons, places or things. As followers of Christ we must be aware of such things.
@InnocenceEternal I would not say these people always reject God, or that they are all demon possessed, because that may not be true. Actually, I think there are cases of mental illnesses and cases of demon possession. So, I won't claim to know for sure which person is suffering from which one.
@InnocenceEternal I don't know for sure either whether or not a person has to be evil to become possessed. The Bible says demons possessed some pigs; but pigs can't really be evil. I think Jesus would protect his people from possession though, but I don't claim to totally understand how the whole thing works. Some multiple personalities also predict the future supposedly, or cause seizures, or are very, very strong! These cases sound like demon possession to me. It is also strange that people who claim to have been abducted by aliens act in the same manor, and have similar memories (possibly visions induced by demons?). So, I think some cases are probably demon possession.

My friends claimed abused severely by there uncles (their mother has schizophrenia and she claims they abused her too); I believe them. I was abused as a child too, but I am pretty normal. So, it makes me wonder how bad the abuse they suffered really was. I mean I never told everything that happened to me, even to my closest friends. So, maybe it is what they haven't told me, something to bad to even imagine that happened; I don't know.
I do not understand why some people are abused and live through it without being adversely affected much at all. While others develop serious, debilitating disorders like this.
@jamesandchante I think it depends on severity, and length of time they were abused. Also, everyone copes differently. like my bf has schitzo affective, he was raped, & never developed MPD. I think people w/ MPD were Severely abused for a LONG period of time. So long that they have to pretend they're someone else until its over. Then when theyre adults, They've created a pattern in their head that won't stop.
@InnocenceEternal Yes, you may be right. It is hard to say for sure. After all, i was abused for many years, and this did not happen to me; but, my friend did have this occur to her. Maybe the abuse was worse than mine. Besides, different people can react differently to the same stimuli.
@InnocenceEternal Same person, but different personalities might require different treatment as they usually have different memories and live as different entities. So, I think it's better to try to keep up with the different personas, but it is quite a task as there are at least 3 or more of them. Also, if a person only has 2 different personalities, they are either faking it or suffer from another kind of disorder. There must be at least 3.

a person with this disorder, has programmed their brain into becoming people that they imagined they could be. it's part of what protects them from emotional breakdown
also method actors do it. they become the character they play. of course they can break away from this role at any time. But apparently, Jack Nicholson had trouble during his time playing the joker. he had a mental breakdown.
that's how scary it can get. You get into character so much that you can become them.
people with DID, become different characters, for certain situations. they're memories, and concept of who they are, is gone. it only comes out through characters.

I know all too well what a dissociative disorder is. And this isn´t right. A real person with DID doesn´t stand out in a crowd, doesn´t switch so openly, isn´t so theatrical.. @GHee030 Yes, it is. I was friends with a pair of twins that were diagnosed with schizophrenia, and later one of them was diagnosed with MPD. I eventually lost contact with them (they were hospitalized, and moved from one home to another because their mother could not really help them). I wish I could understand what causes this, so that i could help them. I guess no one really understands this problem.

I do believe that DID is a real disorder for those who suffer from it. However, I am doubting the whole concept of satanic ritual abuse. But BELIEVING that you have endured such horrors must be equally bad as actually being a victim of it. The mind is extremely powerful, and I believe that this disorder is a result of something that may not have happened but it doesn't make a difference when you THINK it has. I think one should rather adress the "treaters" who put these ideas in people..

Some ritual abusers are known to use vague, religious or cultish structures to the abuse, but this is a vague framework, rather than a genuine connection w/ Satan etc. and mostly used to terrify victims/make excuses for abuse.

This is heartbreaking. The different personalities in some way protect Helen from someone or something that hurt and terrified her when she was too young to protect herself. My sense is the ages of the personalities are in some way representative of various traumas she endured at those ages in her life. These personalities keep her in a sense sane because were she to deal with her trauma in an abrupt way, she would most likely totally fragment. There are therapists who can work with this.

I have seen people with these disorders do things that seem humanly impossible to me, so this leads me to think such ones are possessed. Also, there are people with these disorders that say voices or demons told them to hurt or kill themselves or someone else; they even say they are possessed sometimes. Yet, no one believes them.

If demon possession existed back then, why is it impossible for it to exist now? Besides, many of the people who have this problem (such as the gay serial killer who ate parts of his victims) confess to doing occult rituals. Some people believe hypnosis is an occultic ritual that leaves room for demons into the mind.

Some multiple personalities also predict the future supposedly, or cause seizures, or are very, very strong! These cases sound like demon possession to me. It is also strange that people who claim to have been abducted by aliens act in the same manor, and have similar memories (possibly visions induced by demons?). My friends claimed abused severely by there uncles (their mother has schizophrenia and she claims they abused her too); I believe them. I was abused as a child too, but I am pretty normal. So, it makes me wonder how bad the abuse they suffered really was. I mean I never told everything that happened to me, even to my closest friends. So, maybe it is what they haven't told me, something to bad to even imagine that happened; I don't know.

I know all too well what a dissociative disorder is. And this isn´t right. A real person with DID doesn´t stand out in a crowd, doesn´t switch so openly, isn´t so theatrical.. It's more subtle, yet so much more complex than how this woman portrays it. There is so much in this story that just isn't right, it makes me sad. I eventually lost contact with them (they were hospitalized, and moved from one home to another because their mother could not really help them). This is the truest form of DID. Me being a wanna be psychiatrist makes me wonder how someone could go through abuse and not remover it. The human brain will try anything to hide and or cover up bad memories, so I think that her DID is caused by abuse as it is stated in this video..

I do believe that DID is a real disorder for those who suffer from it. However, I am doubting the whole concept of satanic ritual abuse. But BELIEVING that you have endured such horrors must be equally bad as actually being a victim of it. The mind is extremely powerful, and I believe that this disorder is a result of something that may not have happened but it doesn't make a difference when you THINK it has. I think one should rather adress the "treaters" who put these ideas in people..

The first expert annoyed me a bit... he is not up to date... the modern view is that you are not splitting up but never grow together - as babies have different states they live in before develop an integrated consciousness.
