Fossils are fantastic in the study of Nature. There are no rockets, billion dollar telescopes or city sized cyclotrons to maintain. A good map and camera and time to dig and keep a good journal. Next to chemistry, this is ' hands on' science.

@ebaltrace Dinosaurs were until the 1840s called dragons. We've always lived with them but they became rare through adaption failure and being hunted. Look at ancient writing and pictures and you'll see plenty of them. There's even one on the walls of Babylon.

They were called dragons, if you look at the book of Job, chapter 38 =unicorn ( probly one of the many one horned dinousaurs), Job chapter 40= Bohemouth (probly Brontosaurus) and Job chapter 41 = laviathon ( could be any number of dinousaurs).

Actually digging up fossils in China with dynamite is common, at least up until recently. Private collectors pay high dollar for specimens and unfortunately the "excavators" care nothing for scientific value or archaeological significance. Sad but true.
