  • good grief!

  • Look out, we've got a badass overhere!

  • this or sp808 and why?

  • this guy is dopeeeee

  • what would be better ,this or the akai mpc 500?

  • @15381472 I dig the MPC. I don't know much about the 500. I'd just go for an MPC2000xl or 3000.

  • @CaptainNehoc, I know, those are awesome, but I want it to carry it with me, if i have a gig or anything, and I don't feel like bringing my laptop everywhere i go. So it's got to be a portable stand alone unit, and that's pretty hard to find

  • @15381472 I've used my MPC1000 as a standalone unit. It works pretty well. The 500 would be good for live stuff because it is so small and lightweight...and it can run on batteries. My 1000 is a bit heavy. I haven't messed with the Roland stuff much, but some people swear by it. I would go for the MPC. It's pretty cheap, too.

  • @CaptainNehoc, You're right, But I mean the MPC 1000 is sick, but it's more expensive, and I don't have a lot of money to spend, but I think i'm able to buy the MPC 500. Anyways, thanks for your advice, appreciate it

  • sexy blue pulsating light.. essential

  • Wow, so old school!

  • can you record and chop samples directly on the unit or do you have to import them to the devise?

  • i know this is a pretty old machine is there a newer version of this out yet?

  • @rawfflecakes they have a sp-404sx which would be the better buy cause of the dedicated buttons like pattern copy

  • @rawfflecakes Yeh - the 404 SX, Bought one today - love it

  • alright..so after you make the beats and all taht good stuff how do you save it all in order as a complete song..with like an intro and verse and chorus etc..i understand how to layer the samples and make beats but...like how do you record it all together exactly and save it? por favor y gracias

  • now if they only could get a better designer to make it look cool

  • Lord finesse loop. fucking ace!

  • I want to sample stuff but also add my own instruments too tunes. Can you make full tunes on this mother or would it be easier to say sample on this then export to FLstudio and carry the beat making process on there? How does everyone else use this sampler in their beat making process?

  • DJ PREMIER

  • lol sexy blue pulsating light!

  • I bought the SP202 and returned it yesterday for a used SP 404 from a local music shop and I love it (I still don't know what all I can do with it yet, but it's rad)! Also found a 512 MB memory card inside :-)

  • how do i get this?

  • I wonder where can I buy the top or silver? design or one full platter Pleease Help Meee!!

  • I wonder where can I buy the top or silver? design or one full platter

  • Where can I get a 404SX for the cheapest price?

  • can i put many effects at the same time?

  • oooooooooh nooooooooo!!!! no compressor :( and crap pitch

  • why crap pitch ? only +/- 2 octaves, right ?

  • that aint eaven real pitch, only an effect named pitch. listen to that, sounds like crap! but ive heard that theres speeding somewhere else...

and btw the vinyl sim is too fake! but anyway im going to buy that

  • how much will you pay for it ?

  • something like 350€ from thomann...?

  • mhm, same here, 340

what kind of music, hiphop right ?

  • yeah, hiphop! i got fl studio right now (best program ever) but i need something that i can carry on anywhere

  • yeah, and a sampler is essential in hiphop.i work on cubase and i also have a korg em-1. i want another live-machine. i go from hiphop to electronic music. check out the song i have put on youtube if you like.i make the beats a friend is freestyling.greetings

  • so u can create your beat, synth, pad, bass etc.? or is it like looping already exiting track? thx

  • i want it .. i need it .. i can't get it =/

i live in argentina where this thing haven't arrived. only way to get it is to pay arround 800$ ..wich is not the idea when this meant to be affordable (400$)

    i cry now . sniff

  • this is amazing for djing but for people interested into beat making, deff look into a mpc

  • man how am i suposed to save my tracks?? can i save'em as one file on same equipment?? or PC through line out??

    whats da deal here?

  • Does anyone know how you use the G-J sample banks? Cheers

  • only available with memory card

  • I have a memory card, but I only know how to go from A-F

  • hm, download the manual. page 34. i don´t know exactly, sry, i´m getting my sp 404 in 4 days.

  • aja, what about the pitch ?? are there only 2 octaves to pitch ?

  • sry page 16

  • is this better than the mpc

  • the mpc is a full workstation, nothing is better than a mpc 5000

  • My lil bro wants to get into making tracks (he's 16) but I don't want to start him off with what I use. Anyone think this is user friendly enough for him?

  • this one is pretty good... with some serious good specs...

and this machine and the old sp303 its used by madlib, quasimoto and other guys from stones throw... even to make some good arrange to complete tracks

  • madlib and quasimoto are the same person

  • whats the difference between this and the sp 404 sx? Does either one have a d-link and synth like the 555?

  • is this thing only a beatbox? can i put in sound effects... musical phrases to trigger as a play piano?

  • to each their own. everybody got a different use for different equipment.

  • @amplifysoul haaaha how does the ninja analogy come into play.... sweet demo but

  • @eltronrangamma if YOU broke it YOU suck sir

  • Ninja Futuristic DJ Type-Vinyl thing happenin'

  • Lol. It was a pretty good way to put it.

  • igot it its great

  • can i use this for house and dubstep and drum and bass?!

cuz i need a sampler x) but i'm not interested in a hiphop only sampler xD

  • i don't really think there's drum machines or samplers that are hip hop only lol...you'll be able to get some good thick basslines, nice layers, etc with the 404 though

  • It's all about how you use it. (minus features) You can use a mpc for dubstep just as easy as you can for hip hop.

  • can u DJ with this easily

  • the beetroots do :L

  • no man

  • how many samples at the same time ??

  • How Much Is It?

  • 310GBP new, so i reckon about 400/500 dollars

  • got one of these the other day, lovvvvvve the fuck out of it.

  • lol "It's very musical!"

  • I WANT THIS! :D

  • built in microphone = won my buy

  • why are all the sampler demos using song samples , there are none with instrument samples, and none seem to use the midi controller at all.

  • should i get this or the MPC 500?

  • i would go with this it has effect and stuff

  • Love the beat.

    thank you

  • I got one of these.....great!

    myspace

    paradoxfix

  • can i make trance with it ?

  • Highly doubtful.

Maybe basic beats but you would still need a synth module, keyboard, etc. Just get the mc-808. It works as a sampler and a synth.

  • thanks man

  • ahah , that's obvious.... but i think the price is not the same.......

  • It's maybe $200 more then the SP-404 and worth it.

  • How many sounds, samples come are included in it? and then where do you recommend I go buy additional sounds (online libraries?)

  • Make your own, lazy ass! haha

  • I just thumbed your reply up even though you said it to me! ... you are right I should do! but I'm a noob! hehe

  • hahaha

  • ya just get ur sounds off the internet

omfg tho this shit has mad effects!!!

the built in mic is dope too

  • this is not for me

  • you're amazing

  • my memory card (compactflash) keeps making me reformat it over and over. should i just get another one or what?

  • ninja futuristic dj?

  • Just get the SP-555...Its ALOT better and you can do more:)

  • how does it stack up to something liek the mpc?

  • mpc is another planet. totally different machine. i had a 555 and sold it the day after. got an mpc1k and lived happily thereafter. depends what style you're up to.

  • how much is this fucker?

  • "Very musical?" - for the deaf - this is cacophony, man. As a DJ, you'd probably not hear how bad this is, in the same way you can't smell your underwear...

  • Well said. How about that sexy blue pulsating light?

  • is this machine good? becuars i need drums also and there are no drums

  • I tried to use mine on the airplane but i was told off. they looked at me as though i had a large, introcate detinating device.

I managed to squeeze in a series of mad-paced knob twiddling before it was taken out of my hand.

I am banned from US airways now, i beleive.

I now have an Akai mpc2500 which is too big to get on the plane.

I guess i could take it, but i'd need to purchase another seat, and i'd need to take around 12 car batteries to get the voltage up.

  • it does look like it can set off a bomb though lol, sucks they took it away. how do you like your 2500? you find it as entertaining to make music as the 404?

  • @russhurley so if ur tryin ti get famous usin those beats and they tried to take it ur basicly gettin banned for tryin to become famous???? lol

  • just show panda bear using...product sold

  • Normally these promotional roland videos suck but this one really nicely summarizes what the machine does. im thinking about getting an 808 ex but im not sure what i will do in regards to a sampler yet

  • I want to start a beat project with this guy. He seems chill

  • how do i delete the a bank in sp 404

  • do you just need a computer and that thing to start deejaying or what?

  • or just a computer. get virtual dj 5. its th best.

  • IT'S VERY MUSICAL!! IT'S VERY DJ-FRIENDLY!!

    rotfl.

I'll have my SP-404 in two weeks.

  • im having trouble with the quantize option, how does it workd

  • can u do all those weird choppy things on the 303? like noises and stuff

  • you cant sample on the akai xr20 so good luck lol

  • midi?

  • okey?

  • yes you can make a complete song on this i have the 303 and its similar to the 404 and ive made songs on it look up nick tha 1da on youtube and he'll show you how, peace

  • can any1 help me out b telling me if u can make a hole song on this machine plz??

  • can anybody tell me an sampler that is close to an mpc and doesnt costs more than 400 dollars?

  • the Akai XR-20 is a drum machine that isnt out yet, but will be $299. im gonna get one.

  • I got the mpc1000 at a pawnshop for 250. (a lot like a 2000). Shop around.

  • ASR-X-Pro. It's an acquired taste, and they don't usually go for more than $300 nowadays. check one out.

  • Roland SP-606.

  • yes yes, sp 606 also. It's got those two MFX processors, very nice. Each sequence up 32 measures. 96ppqn timing.

  • MPD24+GuruPads = pretty similair

  • i just got mine, its a cool tool but nothing close to a mpc...

and the are pads are stiff.

  • is possible to make a whole sample beat with a complex structure ?

  • listen to Panda Bear's Person Pitch, its all done with two samplers.

  • can you load you own samples into this

  • yes you can

  • what's the maximum length of one sample?

  • I've got one now but I'm not really using it. I'm pretty sure that the song/sample can be as long as you want as long as it fits on the SD card.

  • you want to sell it?

  • not right now. i will do it before or at the beginning of summer. you'll find a bunch on ebay!

  • This thing is amazing. I made some of my stuff with this machine for my beats at SuperHotBeats(DOT)com

  • that dude aint no tool. He's got some serious beat-making skills. Like seeing him doing product demos way better than mike acosta.

  • Hahaha, yeah totally. One thing I dislike are some of his 'okey?!'s after his sentences hehehe, but apart from that, he's all cool.

  • not for me. just an opinion but it seems too gimmicky. its like an expensive toy

  • isn't that the whole point of it? :P

  • What cool instrument isn't an expensive toy? I do think to know where you're coming from, you think the 404 is nice to do some small stuff, but really making songs seems hard to believe right? Well, .. that's where you are wrong. It's perfectly possible to make great quality songs with this, it's good enough to make AAA stuff. But... as always, it takes some serious skills. Perhaps, MPCs are 'lil bit easier, but I don't think so.

  • Ooops wrong url. It's at GRNB . tv

  • Yup...I got mine a few months ago brand new from Musicians Friend site. This is the bomb. I'm still learning how to use it but have made some great songs for my animations that you can see at GRNB. com

  • that song is: Jeru the Damaja - Whatever

  • wait- does the sp-404 come with preloaded sounds/drums etc. or do have to import them all? I can't seem to understand.

  • haha, that guy is a tool, but I love this sampler, I'm gonna get one really soon.

  • HOw is this different from the akai mpc???

  • MPCs have really nice velocity sensitive pads, more outputs, more flexible sequencer... I can go on. I just bought an 404 though and I love it. Way cheaper than even the lowest grade mpc and a decent little unit to grab samples and hurry and test them out. (Toys R Us is a sample-heads paradise!!)

  • toys r Us?? Where do they have samples there!?!!

  • They have like a gazillion different toys that all make sounds..dooh. "D You can use a 404 whilst on the move. It's awesome, you can record city sounds, traffic, or ... like donsandwhich sounds from toys in Toys 'R Us. Creative thinking and a great idea donsandwhich.

  • Its alot cheaper and has built in mic

  • Hey can you like record like a song with the mic? and then take it and put it as one of the pads. just like a short start of a song??

  • I'm pretty sure that is possible, I mean, there even is a built in microphone to sample things around you, so you more than likely can add it to a pad and have fun with it.

and guys, dont forget to check out sp-forums. com

great community for SP users (202.303.404.505.606.808)

  • ... and there's even a cool section for SP-555. :)

    Nice vid, thanks for sharing.

  • Great sampler ! I will look for buy it, it sames very nice.

  • I've got the 303 and I'm lookin' to upgrade. Something portable that can also export samples in .wav format. This one seems to fit the bill.

  • buy akai

  • better you buy the roland sp-606

  • What ever you do not!! get the 606! I bought one on what i had read and seen and it was the biggest disappointment! Sold it, saved more money and got an MC909!

THe sp 404 is 100% better than the 606! the 606 is a plastic toy that costs way to much for what it is. you can actualy get a Roland MC808 for pretty much the same price these days anyway!

the 404 is superior to the SP range

  • thank your for this tip!

  • You welcome

  • word I want this thing!!!
