  • wow I barely got 5s cleanly at 95-100 bpm, I thought I've been making good progress, but then I pushed in a tap to bpm. Marty's doing this at about 129, ahhhhhhhh!!!!

  • monster

  • really diffent to see marty with out distortion and megaddeth

  • The man is an amazing guitar player and i dont think he really knows his guitar theory...its really rare to see someone so amazing that doesnt know theory...so i guess he gets props for that

  • @SkwisgaarScampini he's mostly self taught, he's amazing

  • ive got a signed copy of the vhs version!

  • Like this comment if you spontaneously combusted from pure awesomeness when he played them both really fast at the end.

  • Imagine having Marty as a personal guitar teacher.....

  • high as fuck

  • ı miss cacophony years

  • I'm Marty Friedman and i smoked a huge bowl before i did this Dvd.

  • Look at his hair :D

  • Colorado bulldog

  • what dvd is this from?

  • I have a better idea...why don't we all just quit playing guitar!!

  • Fucking STOMPS dave hills no-talent ass!

  • His picking hand has always baffled me.

  • for Marty this is just a walk in the park

  • I played classical for a long time, but I hate playing electric without distortion

  • 7!

  • Marty looks like he is using alternate picking starting on an up stroke for the first example from the High E? Am I right or is he using economic picking?

  • @coolmega33 actually now that I think about it I don't think he could be economic picking with two notes per string

  • He lives in Japan and all those licks sounds like japanese traditional music xD

  • wow this must've been back when he was in Cacophony! Still playing Carvin!

  • Wtf...

1:24 with audio caption on says:

"communist government for the time finance here"

  • Why are you comparing good guitarists?? EVH is good and Friedman is good. Neither of them needs to be better. They have their own styles, somebody prefers Marty and somebody EVH. And for you who think that EVH is the most skilled guitarist in the world: He is not. There are more skilled guitarists than him. But skills don't mean everything.

  • These DVDs are good if you're searchin for solo's ideas, not for theory and music.

They explain little and they don't even explain, in a comprehensive way, what they start to play.

I've got Malmsteen's DVD and it's completely useless.

  • @SuperMegaMantus

Malmsteens video is an advanced neoclassical DVD designed for experts who know their theory down pat though.

  • @xD0NKEYx Yeah, every of those dvds are for experts. What I mean is that if a guitarist shows to anyone just some licks at 1000bpm, and not the basic theory of that argument, it's not so usefull.

  • @SuperMegaMantus

I do agree and think that he definitely does it for ego tripping as well, don't get me wrong.

  • Thats the guitar he used to audition for Megadeth!!

  • how did Dave Mustaine got into Marty into Megadeth

    Megadeth kills!

  • @shaboobo1988 Friedman sent his album to Mustaine and i think he didn't want Friedman at first since Cacophony were going for a Hair metal band for success with their second and solo albums so Dave turned him down until he got desperate he listened to "Dragon's Kiss" after hearing him he knew he wasn't your typical soloist sort of guy and let him join only if he went through Rock school 101. Dave later officially let him join the band after he did the solo for Tornado of souls.

  • @Phrygian12

Rock School 101 was cutting his hair and getting a fashion makeover, btw.

And Marty felt acceptance after Dave's reaction to his solo, but he was already in.

  • @GrizCC Nah, he didn't make him cut his hair, he just had him get rid of the Micky mouse shirts and the cute/ hair metal look, he had going on from Cacophony and changing the way how he palm mute, Also having him switch to Jackson guitars and a possible stage name that didn't go through (phew!) I wonder what kind of stage name Dave, would have gave him?

I sound like a Fanatic Friedman Fan/stalker now.

  • Lol! Has any one watched the video with the Captions on?

  • @Phrygian12

    Monotonous goodness?

  • @Phrygian12 HAHAHAHHAHAA that's the best laugh of the week, cheers bro! :-)

  • If you have anything bad to say about Marty's playing than you either think you're a better player than you are, or you haven't tried playing his licks. There is nothing bad at all about his playing - regardless of how he holds the pick or chooses to favor his ring finger over his pinky. When you play guitar like MF, there's no such thing as 'incorrect'. It sounds fuckin' badass and that's that.

  • End of story? I watched your video buddy, you're in no place to make those kind of statements. End of story.

  • he's playing incorrectly, he should be using his pinky finger on the pentatonics, this guy is sloppy

  • @cbarrett34 HAHAHA "he should be using his pinky finger on the pentatonics" god, the day you can play like this guy you can say whatever the fuck you want :P but since I'm not gonna be alive in 300 years: SHUT UP

  • DAVE MUSTAINE !! You lucky son of a gun

  • The hacks that bash Marty Friedman nearly always have an (unhealthy) hard-on for over-rated hippie rockers from the 60s and 70s. It's uncanny how often that is actually the case!

  • let shawn lane tell you guys somthing about pentatonic licks in odd groupings

  • his technique is shit, he avoids his picky finger on his left hand, and his right hand picking tech is odd

  • @cbarrett34 hehe no its not. Its your technique that is shit

  • @cbarrett34 I don't normally reply but this comment was too stupid and naive to ignore. Marty's a virtuoso, which means he has mastered the instrument. His right hand isn't shit, it's just unorthodox. His technique is incredible and it shows in his playing.

  • @mikedisd2 who said he's a virtuoso? you? is that like making the guitar players hall of fame? how can you separate awesome players from virtuosos? this guy can't even hold eddie van halen's pick, that guy was a virtuoso, this guy is a good player, there's a big difference

  • @cbarrett34 plz stop being ignorant, how can you compare Eddie to this guy, Marty can play circler around Eddie any day any time, just look for his work in cacophony.

He puts hes right hand like that because he feels like it. so what?

  • @TheMrLuisC you're out of your mind, you're saying this guy is better than EDDIE VAN HALEN??? you are insane

  • @cbarrett34 yup, im sure he is better, i love eddie to (i wish i could play like him) but Mr. Friedman is better of a player. This guy is right there with Jason Becker.

  • @TheMrLuisC YOU'RE FUCKING INSANE IF YOU THINK MARTY IS BETTER THAN EVH. CERTIFIABLY INSANE, END OF STORY

  • @cbarrett34 I SAW YOUR VIDEO YOU POSTED AND YOU ARE IN NO POSITION TO SAY WHO'S BETTER W/ YOUR GUITAR SKILLS. YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF POSTING THAT KIND OF LAME ASS GUITAR PLAYING ON THE WEB. OH, AND MARTY FRIEDMAN IS WAY BETTER THAN EVH, EVH IS OLD AND OUTDATED, JUST LIKE HIS ONE FINGER TAPPING TECHNIQUE.

  • @cbarrett34 dude. you need to stop existing. your pretty much a fuckin idiot for comparing pompous ass van halen to friedman. friedman is by far the superior player and doesnt just use flashy tricks and taps all the fuckin time like EVH.

  • @asharp12 ok, you might be better at guitar than me, so what? i can't believe you actually believe that marty is better than eddie, you need to seek some serious help

  • I like the way he makes a bluesy scale sound exotic

  • he's high, marty you rule!

  • I'm going to start doing 5 note runs with my C Major pentatonic scale. Thanks Marty for another lick to work on! :D.

I'm working on a slide blues lick by Marty Schwartz, and the first lick from Paul Gilbert's Pentatonic licks.

The slide licks are a bitch if you don't practice trills so my advice, I guess, is to practice trills before doing licks. Just saying that cause my pull offs suck :D but they're improving.

  • Damn, this guy's a real musician, this is the ONE SINGLE pentatonic lesson that I've found usefull. The others are just the same shit going over and over again, while this guy does something creative out of it !

  • The man knows guitar.

  • Even when just giving lessons on pentatonics, Marty makes the guitar sound beautiful.

  • i got this dvd today for £6.50

  • @SoundOfAShark where to get it brah?

  • @SoundOfAShark whats it called?

  • @SoundOfAShark what's it called?

  • Awesome........ Go Marty Friedman!
