I remember running home to catch this on VH1 when it first aired once-upon-a-time. "Ray of Light" was the album that truly turned me onto Madonna; 1998 was such a formative year for me, musically (Tori Amos, "From the Choirgirl Hotel"; Sarah McLachlan, "Surfacing") and thus ignited such a strong reaction when "Ray of Light" hit the shelves. Every time I hear "Drowned World/Substitute For Love" I get the same chills as when I first heard it on my Walkman in Union Square.
@LenaDelovely I knew it! Yeah, a lot of her New York story is "mythology", as her brother puts it. The media and her fans love it. :) But she ain't fooling me!
@LenaDelovely she was a middle-class girl, who went to the big apple to make her dream come true. she never said that she was homeless, but this doesn't mean that she hadn't a difficult life, before she became famous.
