  • That's it? Wow...

  • A good game hero with good moral

  • love the song by the band at 5:40

  • I wish I could find the intro theme to this somewhere. :/

  • casual gamers cant stand this type of games

  • Finally came across this for my atari st.. Now I might be able to figure out how to actually play the game :)

  • I played this on my A500 back in the day and I was fascinated. A free-roam game with detailed grafx and environments. Kind of a forerunner to the games we see today. Kudos to the dev team!

  • awesome intro music ! I remember listening to this many times. Also the garden was quite inspiring.

  • I've been lookign for this game for so long!! When I was younger I got nowhere and didn't understand a thing. Now that I finally remembered the game I'm happy I didn't try to play it since it would have taken days to try and get through it!!

  • yes was great game great intro music

  • This game was brill, It deserved a lot more respect than it got!Thank you for uploading ! i had the atari s version and now reliving those memories via emulator!)

  • Wow I actually did complete this game as a kid. I spent so bloody long on it, I figured the actual ending would have you rated as something other than DOG MEAT.

Awesome game, loved how big the Pandora Ship was and how many things you could get wrong...So many false paths and distrating items. Good game.

  • As a kid I mainly beat the hell out of everyone running around on the screen. Also loved to listen to the piano man. Well... as long as he was still alive. LOL

  • Pre 1990, most developers, myself included, were being asked to lead on the Atari ST.

Very sadly, the Commodore 64 version was held for a year before release (awaiting the ST and Amiga versions). Although it got some great reviews, it would have reviewed even better if released when it was finished.

Every extra day I took on the Amiga version (which despite its burst scrolling got great reviews) was impacting on the C64 version.

In hindsight, I should have taken longer on the Amiga version.

  • Is it the same code as the ST version (CPU driven blitting), or did you make any Amiga specific modifications to it?

  • I'm pretty sure it was hardware blitting. I can't 100% guarantee it as my memory is so shocking!

I can't even remember if I went with the interleaved bitplane approach to make a single blit possible instead of multiple single-bitplane blits (which would have been less efficient than software blitting an interleaved set of planes)

What I do remember is regretting that I wasn't given more time to do smooth scrolling on it. Still, got loads of 5* reviews and 90+% marks so I wasn't too upset!

  • @shahidkamal I am curious about what development tools did you use to make this game?

  • @skipper7302 It's a good question, but I'm honestly finding it very hard to remember. I think I might have used PDS for the Commodore 64 version, and DevPac for the Atari ST and Amiga versions.

  • I'm pretty sure that coders far smarter than me might have disassembled the code, reverse-engineered it and you would have your answer! :-)

I will see if I can find the original code for it somewhere, though I'm pretty sure it was all stolen along with my Xen computer.

  • Actually i can look it up myself with some disassembler/monitor/Hex editor :)

  • Great! When you find out, please do remind me. :-)

I'm pretty sure I used bitplane interleaving (set at 160 bytes per line instead of 40) and now that I think of it, probably no blitter. Yikes!!!

    I loved the Amiga.

  • Memories.... I wrote this with David 20 years ago! Thank you to whoever posted this.

  • Great game, great memories!!!

The ST version seems to be identical in every aspect, except for the sound. Why is it that almost every Amiga game prior to 1990 seems to make no use of the extra hardware capabilities of the Amiga ?

Well, i already know the answare to the question, but it would have been nice to here the original coders answare :)

  • @shahidkamal

What objects are needed in order to receive the highest rating at the end? Does trading affects this rating? If so, what trades are to be made? So far, I have been rated as "Quite useful" (diplomatic approach) and "Son of satan" (violent approach).

It seems that no one ever documented fully completing this great game...

  • @adalsgaard I'm afraid I don't remember too much about which artifacts are required. Trading doesn't affect your score, but your ability to trade as opposed to fight is affected by your actions in the game. Certain characters will "like" you and others will not. Those that prefer your objects to you will fight you for them. It was quite sophisticated at the time, but if I redid this - chimera2010(dot)com for example - it'd be a lot more sophisticated today. Thanks for your kind words.

  • This game is awesome, i use to play it all time as a kid with my friends

  • What?! Is that all you get for finishing the game?! You could have at least beaten up the piano player :)

  • Completed in 10 mins - thats impressive.

I always ran into the thief and the hooligan!

  • @fordtippexagain Well he destroyed Pandora and escape, but he did not save any alien artifacts, so the game is not complete at all.

  • @yazzgo

Oh i didnt know that :)

  • @cubex55

    Neither! Revisit time :D

  • I was too afraid to play this game when I was a kid and never understood how it was meant to play (6 year old kid who didn't understand english) :S Loved the theme tune though :)

  • Your longplay videos have made me feel like I was ten years old again. Thanks so much for doing it, I've actually plugged my old Amiga 500 into my tv today. Viva la Amiga!
