  • I'm Jewish, and I love this show......gives you something to think about.

1 person isn't going to heaven

  • @cargoat A Jew actually wrote this song. Stephen Schwartz.

  • i remember doing this play in fifth class, good times.

  • Jesus WAS a hippie, the original one.

  • did john smack the ballerina's butt?

  • @HaWkBeAtLeSnElSoN Yeah he did! Right on the bum!

  • @grimchieftain hahahaha

  • @AntiBotChannel For someone who doesn't know much about John the Baptist or the story that this film was retelling, sure. But you know, God's real message isn't bunchy and religious, it's life-giving and this is joyful and full of life. This absolutely echoes God's message of abandonment and freedom!

  • I'm not an atheist, a Muslim, a Christian or a Jew. I am, like everyone else, an Agnostic. Admitting to 'a(negation)gnosis(knowledge)' of the Will of God is a state of true humility, which is at least outwardly admitted to be a virtue in every Religion. Still, if there was a God, I'd not mind too much if he were the hippy Jesus of Godspell, or JCS. A 'singin' messiah' is just such a refreshingly anarchic contrast to the unsmiling prophets of antiquity. Oh, yeah, and the music is genius, too.

  • @MrApikoros

During his ministry Jesus provoked two or three basic reactions-- amazement, devotion, or violent reaction. His message stunned and/or angered people. It was not convenient, nor conventional. Jesus talked about life, not rules. Godspell captures some of that. But there are always people who want a stiff, plaster Jesus. About every generation, though, the truth breaks out.

I recommend to you a book-- Philip Yancey's "The Jesus I Never Knew". I found it really helpful.

  • I watched this on Netflix one night and it was brilliant to watch

  • LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I have been going to see Godspell ever since I was 6 when my parents took me to see the original off-broadway Boston production! I'll never get enough!! I'm playing the music to celebrate this Easter and the Lord's rising!!!!

  • @snowfitness1 Thank You God for sending you Son for our sins Hallelua he is risen to day!!!!!!!

  • I think I may suggest this to the Worship Leader at my church for this Sunday.

  • i am not in any way religious, except that i go directly to the computer on every sunday morning, but songs from godspell are awesome!

  • @mistaecco I'm Muslim and Godspell gets stuck in my head! I love Stephen Schwartz's work. :)

  • this song always makes me want to get up and dance

  • I'd probably love this song if I could stop staring at the hair styles.

  • i doint who you are but get off my channel

  • Anyone think it's about time for another Godspell type musical??/ For my money, it's way overdue!!!

  • Main SInger David Haskell, has a voice that melts me. Inspiring! Learned of his death due to brain Cancer and he has passed, but he will always hold a place in my heart forever.

  • i watched this is my religion class and later that day my friends and i formed a conga line at recess one day and started singing this all over the playground..... good times

  • John the Baptist is hot, Really hot.

Just thought I'd put that out there....

  • Jesus told me that it is one of His favorite films!

  • @memast5 Did he, now? :-) I liked this soundtrack in general... the movie, too, especially when the woman photocopied her head, and the "groovy" clothes...

  • >.< this song keeps getting stuck in my head for no reason....

  • @TehBakaOtaku3 I know!

  • Love it.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • haha i want to go to ny just to see this fountain :D

but seriously i get this song stuck in my head so muchhh!

  • Everybody who does the show Godspell needs to watch this movie first. Everytime I see the play version, it breaks my heart that they don't seem to understand their caractors . That they are to be silly, and funny anda little wacky. Reason is, thats what todays athiests feel about believers anyway.

  • I love this movie!

  • this is really good... i just saw a colledege production of it... its really good!!!

  • what colledge

  • Awesome awesome song. As a Christian, this just really speaks to my soul... no matter how 70's and well, hippie-ish it may appear. It has a really good message. :)

  • my school is doing this for a play! cant wait i love the story but i dont know the characters to auditions for im a mezzo-soprano and ive been told that m good at belting. someone please respond and help auds are soon thx!! xoxo

  • Great 70's hippie flick combining religion and rock! Wow, just dawned on me when I read his name that Victor Garber was the Jesus character. Never recognized him before with his makeup on plus he's much younger here!

  • Great songs. Great voices. Great dancing.

How can it get any better than this? :D

  • mee too! our school is doing this play and i absolutly love it... it makes me feeel happpyy and lovedd and speciall(:

  • this makes me feel so happy inside, i don't know why.

  • @iluvafalloutboy - you know why? It's simple - there's nothing more to it other than sheer happiness and joy; just...because you're alive and young standing in a day. That's been lost in our music and entertainment since those times. The generation after me hasn't known these things. How utterly sad can you get?

  • @iluvafalloutboy It's the Spirit working, I think. As in the HOLY Spirit. I might take years for its effect to sink in, but welcome it in. Wonderful, wonderful things are on their way for you!!!

  • @iluvafalloutboy Anytime you hear the work of God it's going to make you happy!!!!! take that happiness with you everywhere you go, and hold on to it tight, don't let anybody steal it from you or make you forget about it. when you're sad or confused, remember that happiness and ask God for clarity and focus.
