He is an IDIOT. If a couple has two babies only according to him the population will level off. This can only happen when the children become parents the grandparents die immediately. If a couple marries at the age of 20 and have two kids at 25, and suppose their kids marry at 20 ( when parents are 45) and have kids at 25 ( now parents are 50) the total number will be 6 and if parents happen to live past 75 it will triple.

This video leaves out the fact that science and technology make it much easier for we humans to live longer and safer than in years past. Because of this, even if the fertility rate drops, the population of humans can still increase.

One quibble and one major problem. The quibble is that the narrator keeps saying "birth rate" when he means "fertility rate." The major problem is that doesn't discuss the role of very young populations in Africa and parts of Asia that is driving population growth as much or more than high fertility.

The amount of mothers since 1955 has risen by more than 400%. Also the amount of children dying in the first year came down from 25% to 5%. So in summary, todays mothers should have about 0,5 kids. But they have 2. So its 4 times more than it should be.

This statistics tells us the opposite of what we observe :)

I have long advocated large families worldwide, so that far more people may experience life. The majority of people aren't finished having their children, and most everybody wants or ends up having children.

I also doubt that there is such a thng as an "unbiased" report. There can come to be more places with lots of people and fewer places far from lots of people, especially since the planet still is quite a huge place.

This video is a good demonstration of the state of denial people are in about population. Economists run their projects in theoretical spaces with unlimited resources. One way or another the population will go down there is no argument about that. Real question is will it go down for socio-political reasons or be forced down by the environmental backlash of over-consumption. Climate change and peak oil are showing us that unfortunately it will be the latter.

Untill it is established that the world has a carrying capacity and what that capacity is, then all we are doing is providing band aids to deal with the symptoms of over population.

We will never run out of fossil fuel because we will all choke to death before this happens. Global warming is a symptom of over population and untill this is recognised as the core problem then I doubt that we will make much headway in sustainable climate stabilization.

Unfortunately this video doesn't take into account the rise in consumption of resources per capita in the last 50 years which exceeds the fall in birth rate and is causing massive environmnetal damage. In addition one child born in the U.S. equals 20 children born in a third world nation in terms of resource consumption.

I agree. Population increases over the last 2 centuries where fueled by the industrial and green revolutions that produced surpluses in food, medicine, sanitation, etc. The question now is, will the voluntary decrease in population be enough to account for the decrease in fossil fuel availability?
