Sorry to disagree with you on the definition of "ability". Ability is not a skill. Ability is an endowment. Artists have a special endowment, they are born with a heightened reality, heightened senses of sight, hearing, tough, taste and feeling. We know this now.
In reply to the 'poor' (i,e. somebody has already given it the thumbs down, nobody has given it the thumbs up) comment above. You are defining 'ability' in a special or technical sense. As opposed to its wider sense - the ability to do something. You are suggesting that artists have a special ability - e.g. hieghtened senses, probably also deeper sensitivity, e.g. "with sensitive instincts she was the creative one" Dylan). You say "We know this now".But please let us know how?
As a graduate of the Neighborhood Playhouse, as well as Sanford Meisner's professional class, It's great to know that his work goes on. Sandy was an extraordinary teacher whom I liked enormously! Studying with him was an unforgettable experience and I wouldn't trade it for the world!
its a technique not only in learning how to act, but its a technique in learning how to live life...and its changes people's lives.....so true, ever since i started taking acting classes my approach to every aspect of my life changed drastically
I'm in my first semester at drama school, and Meisner confuses the shit out of me. BUT I'm finally letting my instincts take over so I can have a truthful first response.
your right meisner confused the hell out of me to i was soo confused but once i stop thinking and just "be in the moment" is when i started understandnig...its awesome..
Im a playhouse grad from 74. Meisner remains one of the formost influencial experiences of my life. The path he laid for us thirtysome years ago has proven itself solid and forever trustworthy.
