  • @St8hr hahah great eyes!

  • Definitely not a piece for human><

Playing this fxxking piece takes me more than a years..........

How can a human play it as perfect as Maxim Vengerov?

Thanks Mr. Vengerov, a real godsend for all people!

  • Ohhhhhhhhhh........... M ...... G..............

  • The Chicago Symphony listening from the stage while on tour about 13 years ago I think.

  • the best interpretation IN MY OPINION

  • I actually seem to be one of the few people who enjoy's reading vengerov's haters' comments. They are like insolent little children you just cannot take seriously :)

I love Hahn's bach, but dislike her Ysaye, but the opposite goes for Vengerov. He's a god in Ysaye's world, but too expressive for (my flavour of)Bach. They are both masters but have their expertise in opposite fields, but then again, that's also just a matter of subjective interpretation. So why be so childishly rude?

  • absolutely awesome performance!!

  • To be able to punish the violin like that and still remain in tune and scratch and squeak free speaks to superhuman control and absolute mastery over the instrument.

  • AMAIZING!

  • This is how it should be played, truly .

  • Who are the three idiots who disliked this video?

  • overall great... but eww... 2:58... normally i love that little melody, but he just rushes through it :S

everywhere else the speed seems fine

  • It's so fast ... but it's so Vengerov ... lol

  • i love this music all the ysaye sonatas

they seem to encapsulate the whole horrors of the first world war to me ,theres something in the colour of the music that describes that time.brilliant!

  • this is definitely all Vengerov

  • The tempo is perfect. So emotional and full of life... fantastic version. Very very great Maxim.

  • I strongly agree with zkdlqk50: he plays much faster then Ysaye wrote in the score. Partly he plays metronome 172 when it is written 126 !!! No doubt, he can play fast and well and breathtakingly virtuos, but the fact that one can doesn't mean one has to do it. Ysaye certainly didn't write his tempo-indications for fun and if you hurry up too much, many subtile musical detailles get lost!!

  • theres a version on here from a cd where Vengerov plays it at a slower tempo, but i don't like it at all. I feel when its played too slow it drags on and on. I, do have the music and it is marked to be played slower, but idk, when he plays it at this tempo you still get the full story i feel

  • no offense, but I feel like it's too fast played. I like this piece when it's slower and thus making it more enjoyable

  • With his moving, you have to remember although it looks a bit over the top in a close-up video.

But think if you were sitting in the back of a concert hall... it would be much more appropriate.

It's the same for the make-up on stage actors, imagine if you put them into a tv show, it would look horrendous.

  • Amazing. Spectacular. Just breathtaking.

  • really, there is name calling on a classical music piece?? I would expect that on the latest pop pieces- but really, c'mon now. Just enjoy the music and leave the violence in a closet somewhere.

  • Just astonishing!

  • This is just so intense.

  • It's like time stops and no-one, except Maxim, is moving during this piece. What a wonderful thougth to depict his virtuosity. Bliss!

  • Wow! It's like he's in a boxing ring! How he didn't break a string at 1:46 is unbelieveable! Awesome!

  • they speed up and slow down to give the music their touch, variations douchebag. maxim vengrov is the best, better then pearlman, fuk yall who try 2 clown him, grow sum nuts, and play the violin like him, c wht its like, u have 2 move.

  • vengerov may be a better showman than perlman but he is nowhere near the musician that perlman is. and if you listen to their respective recordings of sarasate's introduction and tarantelle, perlman's playing is not only faster, it is clearer and more musical. that being said, vengerov is still awesome

  • sarasate's introduction an tarantelle is a CD recording, in the studio is another story, in the concert hall...well there is when the artist can be really well listened

  • Certified Intergalactic! Mind-boggling! The best rendition of this piece. Woohoo! Go, Vengerov, go!

  • All around YouTube on comment boards, I see people smashing Maxim because he "moves too much" or he "isn't sensitive to the music" or he makes everything of "visual" importance rather than musical. I wish all of those people would watch this. I bet they wouldn't smash him anymore...

  • my opinion I love that he moves the way he does they are just jealous because he is amazing and they are not Vengerov rocks

  • He moves so much and the expressions he makes is because he feels what he's playing, for him it's not just musical notes, he tries to understand the composer and the feelings and circumstances that took them to write the music, his passion for music is great and he epresses it not only with the violin, I don't see anything wrong with that, I wish I could be as good as him, Vengerov rocks!

  • I don't really understand why almost EVERYONE who plays this piece speeds up sooooo much at the beginning and end of the coda section.

The tempo at the beginning of the coda (about 4:58 in this video) is "Tempo poco piu vivo e ben marcato" and then "Allargando" is marked about half way through the string change section (this should occur at 5:05 ish) Also, near the end of the piece (about 5:22 in this case) "Poco a poco slargando" is marked, but almost everyone speeds up to the "Vivo"

  • To each his own I guess :)

  • Beethoven liked this woman Eline. For that he wrote a play... but the director prenounced it as fur Elise.. now no one in the public called Elise.. so ..

  • presence!

  • You can tell within the first few notes, that this piece will be played amazingly and more than likely how Enesco improvised it. This video still amazes me even though I've seen it a million times.

  • Oh dear! I am truly amazed by this performance! So much, I couldn't imagine that I'd want so much energy on my plate! No, let me just play Mozart for my cooking inspiration...

  • Oh dear I hope You're joking... It's that, or You don't know that "Fur Elise" is by Beethoven -_-'

  • Your right. Than Beethoven had a problem.

    Sorry!

  • Unique!

  • awe inspiring!

  • This category of perforing music is just simply not normal. It's not human. Live long Vengerov!

  • his recordings of these sonatas are my favorites, and he's not even close to my favorite violinist to listen to. (or watch!)

The fire and flair and melodrama just seem perfectly suited to him. By contrast, Hilary Hahn, one of my favorites to listen to due to her intelligent restraint, just doesn't cut it on this piece for me. It's fascinating how much personality plays into music making.

  • he looks like a possessed goblin in this performance

  • Yeah, and flawless technique and sensitive musicality. This piece isn't easy, it is overall one of the hardest pieces written for the instrument. I would love to see your version.

  • Ysaye himself would be impressed.

I believe there is a masterclass he taught on this particular sonata. That's another excellent vid to watch.

  • A lot of Vengerov's artistic quirks that ruin other pieces for me make this performance work really well. He was born for this type of piece.

  • i love vengerov....despite some of his outrageous face expressions

  • i didnt notice his face, that was amazing. im not sure Ysaye played it much better. you need such command of the violin to play these. it should sound like you are making it up on the spot, much like Chopin wanted his Impromptus to be. he makes my Kremer recording sound tame, just amazing playing.

  • @Jaesango But that's the best part

  • I'm not a big fan of Vengerov, but I will admit that this is a superb performance! He is great here. A fine violinist & extremely emotion-laden playing!

  • the best performance of ballade ever

  • This blows hilary hahn out of the water.

  • yeah seriously dude

  • yeh, but hilarry hahn's prettier than vengerov :)

  • Her face or her music??

  • @CalculatedPerception not necessarily ;)

  • FUCKING AWESOME!

  • Sublime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Adding a zillion exclamation marks after the word kinda detracts from its meaning

  • Yes!In this concert Vengerov played the Sibelius concerto with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the conductor was Barenboim. The two encores that he played were the d-moll Sarabande by Bach and the 3-rd sonata in d-moll by Ysaye.Brilliant performance!

  • He is awesome !!! I like his interpretation so much, simply perfect ...

  • el mejor!!!

  • and sexy too!!!!

  • INCREDIBLE!!!!!! What more can you say???

  • Not much, thats for certain

  • Please don't put down such an amazing performance, let alone any performance good or bad. Music is music, there's no place discrimination. I would like to hear this Ilya Kaler's performance. I love this piece.

  • I completely agree with issagele. Just listen and compare...

  • Truly, Vengerov's performance is sublime - it is the greatest in living memory. I have heard Kaler, I have heard Hahn, I have heard the attempts of the other masters. But none come close to Vengerov. He just... captures the spirit of the piece. He brings to it a maturity and understanding far beyond her years.

  • You're entitled to your opinion, but let's not jump to gross generalizations. I own recordings of Ysaye by Vengerov, Kaler, Zimmerman, Yaron, Rabin, Repin, Gringolts, and countless others. And I like Vengerov's Ballade the best. I find Kaler's Ballade bland and boring. Kaler is incredibly clean, and his recording of the first sonata is my favorite. But for the Ballade, Vengerov's charisma and sense of drama can't be beat. I even prefer this video to his studio recordings.

  • i can't agree more!

Kaler's ysaye sonatas are so clean

i love his performance from sonata 1-6, but only excluding Ballade

and right his Ballade is a bit 'hesitant'

i like how Maxim made his violin roars

    very emotional and arousing

also listen to Hilary's Ballade too she plays it so elegant.

  • awesome

  • no it doesn't

  • 5.09 lo mejor xd
