Ok... I tried the outside removal and no problems. Now I blew an inside tire. Is it possible to mount a tire on the inside after you remove the outside rim. Also, brain fart. If I'm correct you loosen the lugs on the drivers side clockwise and on the passanger side counter clockwise? I also was informed that the torqe spec for outside lugs on my truck are 550LB foot pounds. If I have to remvoe the inside rim, what would th torq specs for the inside studs be?-Thanks
i have used this method many times i use the Gaither tool system they work the same way but its one tool to remove the outside bead if my inside bead is stuck i use either the duckbill to break it loose or use a spoon bar but that is a all position tread marangoni its called RZY i dont remember the michielin or bandag name
I have seen the guys from the shop do this to save time. I can't do it, but I don't have enough experience changing big tires. Real handy to be able to do it on the side of the road. Cutting back on time you have to spend there is a big plus.
Crap its harder then it looks, I tried this today and I couldnt get the backside bead to break, I was beatin the hell with it and ended up taking it off. I think I need to get the spoon bar you were talking about too.

@1SicMind Keep in mind tho, this guy has just sucessfully changed one big rig tire faster than most guys can rotate 4 tires on a regular car or truck. Point is, he changed it skillfully, quickly, and safely. So, i'm pretty sure he knows a little bit about rims.
Good job you make it look so easy, works really well if that back bead breaks easy. You wait until you get a dayton rim try breaking the back bead on that without taking it off especially if it's been on a trailer for a few years lol.
I ment no disrespect to you or the other pro's out there that charge a fare price and do good work. This guy diserved to be called a tire monkey for what he was doing and did.. because of his screw up on this job, my truck, I got drug into a legal mess that cost me a few thousand for a mouthpeace. There are far too many unpros out there that give you, and yes me a bad rep.
Wow, great job. I had to remount a rear dulie(sic). What about balancing the tire.? I own a water tanker and started to maintain it my self. The last tire monkey charged me $200.00 to mount another tire. Shesssh.. Man wish I had a vid on the last guy. He slipped on the tire, flipped it up, fell off and the tire rolled down the hill, onto the hightway, clipped a geo, geo banged a dump truck, truck ran over a hot dog cart.
It's a pity the Beaurepaires and Bridgestone guys that help the truckies here in QLD Aust. were more useful like you are... they take anything up to two hours trying to change tyres the "proper" way

we have one of the local tire companies come out to the yard to look at all of out tires and when one needs changed they do it that way and make it look easier than it is
I noticed how you used two bars to reinstall the tire, it seems to be a rather slow process, i've learned that if you stick a straight bar at the bottom of the tire bead, then use a hook bar to pry it on against gravity works quicker, sometimes you dont need the straight bar, just hook your leg down there to keep the bead past the rim flange and pry away
Yeah, I know how to do it that way to, and I just like doing it this way. That way I can use gravity more. Also, this one went on slower cause it was a realy stiff 315 recap. 11r 22.5 and 24.5" just flop right on.
this may be off topic but ... say if i wanted to change rims to my car, would i have to take the tire off the car? or can i just somehow take the rim off ? the car is a 97 accord
Well done again! I do it that way too if it's an outer and I don't want to remove the rim. I do one thing different though. When I put it back on, instead of holding it with one bar (hand) I use a set of vice grips on the rim to hold it in place and then you have 2 free hands.
yeah, I have done it that way to with the vice grips. I just started doing it without them cause it was jsut one less tool I had to get out of the truck. lol. Plus, that 315 is kinda stiff, a 11r22.5 or 24.5 flops on so easy that you rally dont need the vice grips.
Nice, I know techs who've been in the business for like 30 years and still can't skin a tire.
Ever skinned tag axle tires on Alum wheels? I just adjust the breaks tight with my 9 1/6 once they raise the axle break the bead, if the wheels are nice i'll lay a rag or a bar cover on my bars. Those Alcoa wheels come off smooth on the front side of the wheel too.
yeah, I love alum wheels! You can also do a 10-22.5 front even if its a steel wheele cause the tire is narrower and it still fits in the drop center. peace.
Yeah i've had to skin steers on alum cause the guy blew a tire and was too close to the median to get my gun in. I used 2 18 inch spoon bars and some leather wheel protectors from ken tool, so I didn't scratch the wheel. it helps if you know how to adjust brakes so you can make the wheel tight so it wont spin.
so slow :P skip the spoon bar from the outside part, I'll try to toss up a vid sometime to show you some more tricks. I can have one dismounted, mounted and aired up again in less than 3 minutes from the second the air is out. Also... Skip jacking it up. If you start the first bead at the bottom instead of trying to push it up from the top you can do it on a loaded trailer without jacking it up.
Yeah, Id like to see one not jacked up, makes sence the way you described it. I can do them faster than this vid, its only 4 minutes long, and I waste time with all that talking, lol. Ive done them in 8 minutes from the time I drive up, till the time I drive away. That was at the human waste plant in downtown Pensacola, smells reeeeeal bad there, lol.
I know a different way,to long to explain.U ever try putting the bar on the bottom(at about 6 o'clock) and holding it with your foot?I'm going to try your way monday.I like it cause you don't need the cage.good Luck stay safe.
instead of using 2 bars when you mount the second bead ,put a vice grip on the top ,like at 2 o clock , then pry with the small spoon . push with elbow and knee to make it easier .greetings from mexico .thats how we do it over here .
Yeah, Ive tried the vice grip, they also make a tool called a wedge that slips on. I just perfer it with the two bars cause its one less tool I have to pull out of the truck lol. It is a little harder at first without the wedge, but faster once you get good at it.
where I work, we generally use "balancing beads" in place of hammer on weights, they are weighted amounts of small glass sand pellets that are put in the tire to balance it internally using centrifugal forces
Yeah I have used the beads. I have also used equal (its like a sand) and a liquid with a rust inhibitor and threads of teflon to stop leaks. I kinda like the liquid best, but as far as them actually ballencing the tires, as you know, the truck drivers all have vastly diferent opinions as to what works, lol.
Dude, I freakin applaude you. It took me hale hour to get ta tire off and another one on my truck.

Drivenout 3 years ago
Yeah, I know how to do it that way to, and I just like doing it this way. That way I can use gravity more. Also, this one went on slower cause it was a realy stiff 315 recap. 11r 22.5 and 24.5" just flop right on.

Made skill. Thanks for sharing!

that was cool
larkolepsy 3 years ago
man I did that with my bar and a claw hammer.
cmaninu2 3 years ago
this may be off topic but ... say if i wanted to change rims to my car, would i have to take the tire off the car? or can i just somehow take the rim off ? the car is a 97 accord
DieselProductionz85 3 years ago
you are only changing the rims? or the tires?
SingNico 3 years ago
Well done again! I do it that way too if it's an outer and I don't want to remove the rim. I do one thing different though. When I put it back on, instead of holding it with one bar (hand) I use a set of vice grips on the rim to hold it in place and then you have 2 free hands.
2040Rumely 3 years ago
yeah, I have done it that way to with the vice grips. I just started doing it without them cause it was jsut one less tool I had to get out of the truck. lol. Plus, that 315 is kinda stiff, a 11r22.5 or 24.5 flops on so easy that you rally dont need the vice grips.

shit i wish we could take the inside one off without taking the wheel off that be the shit
karim8604 3 years ago
yeah that would be cool. You can on a bud nut though, if you take off the outside rim.

BmxOhio 3 years ago
yeah, I love alum wheels! You can also do a 10-22.5 front even if its a steel wheele cause the tire is narrower and it still fits in the drop center. peace.
SingNico 3 years ago
Yeah i've had to skin steers on alum cause the guy blew a tire and was too close to the median to get my gun in. I used 2 18 inch spoon bars and some leather wheel protectors from ken tool, so I didn't scratch the wheel. it helps if you know how to adjust brakes so you can make the wheel tight so it wont spin.
BmxOhio 3 years ago
so slow :P skip the spoon bar from the outside part, I'll try to toss up a vid sometime to show you some more tricks. I can have one dismounted, mounted and aired up again in less than 3 minutes from the second the air is out. Also... Skip jacking it up. If you start the first bead at the bottom instead of trying to push it up from the top you can do it on a loaded trailer without jacking it up.
Obsidian1985 3 years ago
Yeah, Id like to see one not jacked up, makes sence the way you described it. I can do them faster than this vid, its only 4 minutes long, and I waste time with all that talking, lol. Ive done them in 8 minutes from the time I drive up, till the time I drive away. That was at the human waste plant in downtown Pensacola, smells reeeeeal bad there, lol.

Excellent post, you just made me savy on a very important skill. I'll save time and much money.Thank you, Semper Fi
Gladiator0719 3 years ago
I was talking about the retread you just installed. I bet you plug tires too.
mickstang350 3 years ago
nope, dont plug them, and the tire is ok, any good tire guy would know that.
SingNico 3 years ago
What a fucking hack hitting the bead with a hammer!
BeefBurgers 3 years ago
Well, you know, I asked really polite and all for the junk tire to come off the bead but it just wouldnt listen.
SingNico 3 years ago
You should never strike the tire with a hammer during mounting, I'm telling Kevin Rohlwing.
mickstang350 3 years ago
I know a different way,to long to explain.U ever try putting the bar on the bottom(at about 6 o'clock) and holding it with your foot?I'm going to try your way monday.I like it cause you don't need the cage.good Luck stay safe.
fg420 3 years ago
I use the bar in the bottom method too, much quicker. Just takes a bit of brute force and 2-3 bites
Obsidian1985 3 years ago
instead of using 2 bars when you mount the second bead ,put a vice grip on the top ,like at 2 o clock , then pry with the small spoon . push with elbow and knee to make it easier .greetings from mexico .thats how we do it over here .
tiolindo71 3 years ago
Yeah, Ive tried the vice grip, they also make a tool called a wedge that slips on. I just perfer it with the two bars cause its one less tool I have to pull out of the truck lol. It is a little harder at first without the wedge, but faster once you get good at it.
SingNico 3 years ago
Guess you've done it a few times, huh? Thanks for posting. I'm trying it today, but the wheels are off.
accountabilabuddy1 3 years ago
how would you balance it or does it need balancing
sensfan07 3 years ago
no, you dont need to ballance recaps. Especially on a cement truck with concrete all over the rims, lol.
SingNico 3 years ago
where I work, we generally use "balancing beads" in place of hammer on weights, they are weighted amounts of small glass sand pellets that are put in the tire to balance it internally using centrifugal forces
Drivenout 3 years ago
Yeah I have used the beads. I have also used equal (its like a sand) and a liquid with a rust inhibitor and threads of teflon to stop leaks. I kinda like the liquid best, but as far as them actually ballencing the tires, as you know, the truck drivers all have vastly diferent opinions as to what works, lol.
SingNico 3 years ago
Sorry .. But I am better! you got the truck on a block or a jack? i dont use a block or a jack. P.S. change the valve!!!!!!!
jennytire 3 years ago
yeah dude, valve change! grab a ratcheting 9/16 wrench, its a snap.

I had a long gripe about safety issues.
But then again I work for T/A.
HoustonMetal 3 years ago
Dude, that's pretty damned impressive. I spent an hour beating on an ATV tire once and couldn't even break the bead. Nice job.
