WRONG Cameron had the idea since 1988 when he wrote his plot and story with ideas on a piece of paper then in 1993 he wrote an 80 page screenplay and Pocahontas was released in 1995, do your research man like i do. He didn't film it rightaway because he did wanted to film it after Titanic for a 1999 release he put the script in a drawer and decided to wait for the technology to do justice to his vision then in 2005 he greenlighted the film after Lord of Rings convinced him.
I honestly don't see what people see so AMAZING in this movie...it's not original...na'vi are NOT original (more like furry fandom stuff I stumble into now and then aka cat people) and the story itself is a retold of stories that already were made. it wasn't THEMED as the others. It was the same.

Actually Avatar is like the Dune books (Not the 1984 Lynch disaster of an adaptation movie) and Hayao Miyazaki's two animated masterpieces known as Princess Mononoke and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds. Have you even read Dune or even seen Princess Mononoke or Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds?
Actually this movie is similar to Dune since it's the same basic thing of having an outcast on an exotic planet, joining an alien tribe and fighting for a precious substance. It's also like the Princess Mononoke, one of Cameron's fave animated movies and has the same story of a man who falls for a wildgirl then joins up to fight greedy people in an exotic and magical world thing. If you haven't seen Mononoke, rent it you won't be disappointed.

Avatar was an OK movie...the graphics were terrific but the story was lacking,I mean it's totally liberal.the story is nothing new...the military is bad, the natives are good and there's always one good guy in the military who fights against there own..I mean come on...he could make it s much more original. this movie is really good i liked it a lot. When i saw it i wanted to be in that world.

Avatar was an OK movie...the graphics were terrific but the story was lacking,I mean it's totally liberal.the story is nothing new...the military is bad, the natives are good and there's always one good guy in the military who fights against there own..I mean come on...he could make it s much more original. But if you can get past the liberal plot,it's a great movie..

1. Stephen Lang (Quaritch)
2. Sigourney Weaver (Grace Augustine)
3. Zoe Saldana (Neytiri)
4. Sam Worthington (Jake Sully)
5. Michelle Rodriguez (Trudy Chacon)
I know thats only a few of the characters but these are my top 5 favorite. If you have a different opinion, post it.

actually, he wrote the script 16 years ago but had wait for the right technology to be able to portray that script in the best way. filming started 4/5 years ( that includes actor training)

You were right the first time, the navi are the locals, the avatars are the artificially grown ones. The navi have 4 fingers and no eyebrows unlike the avatars

@az09983 ---- aka the natives who inhabited much of Canada and the usa before being forcefully relocated. "we give them schools, we teach them english but after how long- relations with the indigenous are only getting worse." well that tends to happen when greedy white europeans invade land and turn it into a money whoring concrete prison. wont be long before the usa appears as the only "grey" country on a green and blue Earth.

@az09983 just sayin that when european explorers first came to north america, they were greeted by the natives. anyways Avatar is a very modern and much more stylized reenactment of european/first nations contact over 200 years ago gnomesayin? except in Avatar, the humans lose and return to earth. in our history more europeans kept flooding in and the indigenous race that had lived throughout NA were either conformed to european society or put on some shit piece of infertile reserve land
