  • Shit brix! Damn man, really nice work, nice to know people actually listend to this song and not just "hearing" it

  • who said that the music couldn't have math?

  • I think you are "Over Thinking" and "Over Analyzing" this song

  • @ilikevideos0831 Boo, i love pondering upon other peoples beliefs and seeing what they think, specially since he brought this up from his mind and got the want too research it.

  • @ilikevideos0831 But its worth it as it separates the body from the mind....

  • well done.

  • at 1:23 do you mean 9-8-7 is the tabs? The fret numbers?

  • 380 people over think and over analyze

  • Greatest song ever made. ever.

  • Hahaha, 3:50 EPIC cheesy moment right there

  • The thing about the songs flowing together if you play them in order according to the Fibonacci sequence is wrong. Disposition, Reflection and Triad are 10, 11 and 12 on the CD, and the songs flow together in that order.

  • seen this video a few times and its still great

  • haha! a school project, now with 2.4 million views.

hope you got an A !

  • Seeing them on tuesday, they play hooker with a penis!

  • poop

  • Easily one of the greatest songs ever written. I'm so glad I discovered Tool a few years back, they've not only changed my outlook on music, but also my outlook on life.

  • Why people negatively comment on good video's is so beyond me, they shouldn't comment at all, really!, that's all most sheeple do!!

  • Why the heck they would remove the song to this is stupid!

Read name of Jesus below, his actual birthday was 9/11, and the twin towers represented the crash of the old wave of Consciousness.

  • I don't think Jesus himself could comprehend Tool.

  • the best

  • Cool video, man, but I'm just curious as to something and wondering if someone can answer for me. How is the track sequence at 5:17 a fibonacci sequence? I thought it was the next number was the sum of the two preceding it..maybe I just don't see the pattern. Thanks!

  • @27misfits I'm going to concede. So who the hell am I to say what's right and wrong with the human race? Well, I'm part of the human race. And I'm just as fucked up as the next guy. But I was wrong to simply assume that nobody seeks something better. And even though I may of offended some people, I found their replies and defenses kind of inspiring. So I don't care that you're a follower or leader, or you just want to feel. All I care about is that you care about life.

  • @27misfits PS: The authority thing was a reference to a quote from Zeitgeist. If you haven't seen it I suggest you take a look. It's pretty interesting. And by that I meant that the authoritative figures in life, such as the media, etc. don't want you to think too much. They don't want you to 'spiral out'. Because somewhere along that spiral, everything they stand for will become obsolete.

  • Pure genius song

  • I think we should get 100 scientists and lock them in a room with all of Tool's albums on repeat for a year. When we let them out humanity have a full understanding of the universe.

  • This video, and all of Tool's music led to my self-motivated search of what humans are capable of. Since this video I've become aware of DMT, Ayahuasca Tea, and Sensory Deprivation Tanks, which are some mind-blowing, life-altering topics which need to be further explored. If this video leaves you with that little voice inside asking, what the fuck is all this (life) about... then I urge you to look into the above mentioned topics. In no way do I declare to have THE ANSWER but its very intriguing

  • This video and the bit about re-arranging the songs on the album to the Fibonacci sequence makes me want to go out and buy the album just to hear it in that order!

  • 7:21 best fucking part of the whole song. I drum this every fucking day.

  • best song to run to

  • @sadisticbutcher Dude right! I put this song on around mile 2, then mile 4.

  • You might be thinking if this song is ever going to end.

Nope, I'm thinking why this song has to end.

  • like this video? GONE if SOPA and PIPA pass.

go to wikipedia and write your congressman!

  • 380 people did not understand the Fibonacci sequence

  • To all those gullible enough to pay any thought to my comment HIGH-FIVE FOR FAILING AT LIFE!!! Go and learn this; obvious troll is obvious.

  • @lokuh90210 Go and learn this; trolls fail at life.

  • @lokuh90210 good one troll talking shit on a tool video your just real fucking funny

  • Comment removed

  • @lokuh90210 you're a tool

  • @MisterNatMan hahaha its funny cuase thats name of the band... relax i actually like this song... im just trollin' baby.

  • @lokuh90210 You my friend are the gullible one. You see authority as truth, but you don't see truth as authority. Just by coming here and ranting about how shit this song is, you remind me just how much is wrong with the human race. To put it simply, most of us are just too stupid, content or afraid to realise that the majority's way of thinking is not ideal. Yes, you may have your own opinion and I respect that, it's just too bad not all opinions are wise.

  • @TabletTriple9 dude i didnt write any of that i just copy pasta'd from ED to see how many people over react... to see how many people would overthink some random troll... i dont respect this band as smart but i do like this song. its amazing how easy it is to piss people off though and this has giv'n me some good phycological data to study.

  • @lokuh90210 Well, then my bad. I was freaking out all over Youtube yesterday, because I think its the first time I realised what 'trolling' is, and I was not pleased. So, you are entitled to think what you want and I respect that. But on one last note, you say you don't respect this band as smart. So what kind of thing do you respect as smart? Just for the sake of psychological study. See I didn't always like Tool, took me years. But I really do think there's some profound shit behind the music.

  • @TabletTriple9 stupid people have there place i actually enjoy stupidity on occassion deep thought gives me a headache sometimes

  • @TabletTriple9 So who the hell are you to say what's right and wrong with the human race? I happen to believe very strongly in the meaning of this song,it's purpose and meaning, and the Fibonacci sequence, does that make me a follower? Or a leader? No, it simply means I feel what I want to feel. Get it??? Authority has absolutely nothing to do with it.............

  • @lokuh90210 you're ignorant towards art.

  • @bropey youre right i hate abstract art... or modern art as it is now known... mainly because its ugly towards me...

  • @lokuh90210 as long as you respect art for expression and what it is, dont gotta like it, but dont hate on it :)

  • Very good man excellent.

  • thanks dude! lots of things in here that I didn't know. tool makes math cool as fuck!

  • Tool used to be awesome. Hope the next album picks up where Lateralus left off, and is nothing like the dross that was 10,000 Days.

  • @heebyjeebus I agree Lateralus was better, check our channel if you want to hear some fresh 2012 progressive music :)

  • @dr00andrew douche much?

  • brilliant... just brilliant... even that (were) too many words...

  • Not only the best creation Tool has ever done, but the best music and lyrics ever recorded. Best way to tell you how I feel about it? It's my Stairway to Heaven

  • Those are the quickest 9:00 minutes ever. Song's so badass.

  • The Origin Of Language . Tools. 2001 a space oddysey. think about it.

  • @magma4ever92

    Are you?

  • Disliked for 377 :D 14th number :D Epic song though

  • Anyone know the polyrhythm in the bridge section??? I can't figure it out and it's driving me nuts

  • tool sucks. there name states what they and all people who listen to the are. Extreme TOOLS!!!!!!!

  • @dr00andrew Your ignorance precedes your ignorance, therefore you are....ignorant. And you are quite embarrassing, if I'm honest! Thank you for the silliness of the "dr" preceding your silly little name. So fun to see the worst of the silly monkey's making an attept at understanding any of this! Kudos monkey's, kudos!

  • @merkaba42020 what kind of name is merkaba are u jewish or something

  • @dr00andrew .... hehehe... u suck dude...

  • @dr00andrew That's nice.

What do you like to listen to?

  • @Axlgrease89 normal shit not fucking weirdos

  • @dr00andrew Name them.

  • 374 people suck at life.

  • "][" [[]] [[]] [[_

  • @magma4ever92 You should hear it on 432Hz, Epic!! The guy that had it up though closed his account, or it was closed :( Hmm I think I might upload it @432

  • @MIKEPEARTNOY how is Lady Gaga working out for you?

  • awesome analysis

  • oh yeahh...i go back to calculus ·;] math is everywhere..

    I Love Tool:];];]

  • These video makes this song even more pleasing. Now I think of the universe when I hear Lateralus.

  • If you like Tool like me, but can't wait for the new 2012 album, then check out what I've got for you :D

  • Take a ruler, measure the length and width of your entire face (from the top of your forehead to your chin), Devide the bigger number by the smaller one, you have, the golden ratio, approximately 1.6. Might get 1.5 or 1.7 but its ok. Now. Take for example, 89 and 55, both numbers in the Fibonacci. Devide 89 by 55... The ratio of the sequence approaches the golden ratio exactly! Amazing.

  • Wow this song has a much deeper meaning to me after experiencing DMT. I understand it so much better than before :)

  • Gonna see tool live in approx two weeks! I cant wait to hear their new stuff

  • @MrZrod24

are they touring with their new album? did it even come out yet? please respond

  • @Nelarsen Yea man, their coming to Albuquerque NM on the 14th. I'm sure the new album will be the focal point of the show but I would love to hear No Quarter, Parabola and of cour lataralus though.

  • @Nelarsen may 22 is the official date

  • @MrZrod24 wtf they're touring now? i thought they were in the studio? their new album drops may 22...

  • @MIKEPEARTNOY

O really? How's your band doing?

  • That was F$#@n great, only now,i gotta raed some more and figure out what the golden ratio has to do with Fibanacci sequence.....

  • @rok2112 If you take any number of the Fibonacci sequence and divide it by the previous number in the sequence you get the golden ratio ( 21/13=1.615)

  • @rok2112 except for the beginning of course...2/1 is still 2.

  • @babytweeze85 It converges to the Golden ratio, as N -> infinity

  • tego

  • Wow

  • I always refer this video to friends who say they are Tool fans. I swear the first time I saw this, it completely changed the level of awesome that I had held towards Maynard and company. And I keep watching it again and again.

  • mother of god my mind has just been raped

  • I have seen this a dozen times at least and I would seriously would like to know how you figured this out...BRILLIANT!

  • Was that a supernova or a cgi at like 8:40?

  • Ingenious

  • GAHH!!!!!!!!!! My mind has just been compleatly blown

  • I've always enjoyed the weird background sounds that start at 7:22- 8:12. You can hear them subtly throughout, but between those times toward the end they are more noticable. Nothing to it, just a comment.

  • No one cares.

  • @BehindTheLight99

what remains of Maldek is what scientists call our "main asteroid belt". Just search youtube for "Maldek", there is PLENTY of information on it. If you are just saying "wtf?" to troll/shame, then I have no interest in further communication.

  • The missing section is probably a reference to our missing planet, Maldek, which was between Marks and Saturn. If it were there, our solar system is in the PERFECT(less than a fraction of 1% off) ratio of the Fibonacci starting with Mercury and ending with Uranus (if memory serves me correctly). Maldek was destroyed somehow, the reason not being clear. Anyone interested in more info can PM me.

  • @DuncanIdahoTPF wtf?

  • @DuncanIdahoTPF That is something I didnt know, there's a lot I don't know, but I invite a chance to gain knowledge on things I had no idea about. Thank You.

  • two more dislikes and we got 377- the next fibonacci-number. thank you, dislikers, i know you want to help making it more perfect.

  • im sorry what i meant to say was.... i just an amazing and truely spiritual Toolgasm.

  • i just had a Toolgasm

  • Thanks for the download! I hope they keep the audio on here! I've watched and shared this video so many times! What an awesome school project you did!!

  • Ive had this song stuck to my mind for several days and I encountered this. I thank TOOL for giving me the notice that I am more than what they eyes seek. I am consciousness trapped within a body. You guys were my first step into something amazing. Thank you.

  • Is it really that wrong, that I don't get whats going on?

  • @axmand1 you just need to open your mind, my roomate also doesnt get the song, shes ingorant

  • @dilweedify I don't think I would consider myself ignorant, I just have a hard time understanding it. I like the song.

  • IZOD CENTER CAN'T WAIT

  • @quinntheskimo2 See you there!

  • You guys HAVE GOT TO check the one also about Tool's song Forty Six & 2. youtube.com/watch?v=OufK0647p1U

  • @DXTRTXD link didn't work...

  • @neworder36 :S I don't know why. Anyway he/she named it FORTY SIX & 2 EXPLANATION and the user is RaszrCh4rl1e

  • @DXTRTXD yeah, link still isn't working- tis weird. BUT, found it under "FORTY SIX & 2 EXPLANATION" so THANK YOU! Gonna watch it now... =)

  • This song is amazing, why had I not heard it before?

  • I watched this in my math class. Its pretty cool.

  • Ever since i watched this video for the first time, I watch it every time i take LSD. Its like ritual for me now. I watch it right when it starts to kick in. And by the time its over, Im full blown trippin balls trying to tear apart the fabric of everything societys tried to tell me. Same with Vicarious.

  • @MrSoldier492 i have seen them a few times in that state of mind although it has been yrs now since ive seen em or takin any. it's pretty frickin dope, no encores, ever

  • That's awesome!

  • I've watched this video a few times and each time i'm left thinking what the fuck is all this ?? What is reality ? I'm sorry to go against the grain with this new atheism trend but I think there is something to all of this.

  • tool is the bomb becuse of there great music and this video ride the spiral to the end is tattood across my chest

  • "Overthinking, overanalysing..."

  • This song has changed my life, and my way of thinking. Without it, i wouldn't be here.

  • Awesome video, but I honestly don't see how the tracks flow better when put in the Fibonacci sequence. Most of the songs end in silence anyway, and the transitions Eon Blue Apocalypse -> The Patient, Disposition -> Reflection -> Triad sound much better in the normal order.

  • @traceur13 It's science bro don't question it. Just kidding. :P

  • 368 people disliked the fact that the song actually ended........

  • 368 people disliked the fact that the song ended......

  • @thehavocify Those people just don't understand geniusness.

  • If anyone knows how he configured that sequence at 5:09, please let me know. I've been trying to figure it out for soooo long, and I seriously have no idea what he means when he "puts the 13 tracks into a Fibonacci"...I just can't see the pattern. HELP ME! Lol

  • @TheShaggy0110 I think it's because Parabol and Parabola were obviously meant to flow together, that was the starting point. Then the next number would be before Parabol, Schism, then the next one would be after Parabola, Ticks and Leeches. It keeps going like that until you hit the end of the album, song number 13. When you hit the end, you start back over on one, the grudge, then the song prior to 13, Triad. So on and so forth until you've run out of songs.

  • @TheShaggy0110 I made a playlist of this in the fibonacci look on my channel.

  • 368 PEOPLE NEED TO "SPIRAL OUT"

  • 368 dislikes = 368 people who are dead from the neck up

  • @TheAchillesfury That's cruel towards people who are brain-dead but I could not stop myself from letting out a laugh.

  • What I wouldn't give to meet Maynard over a cup of Joe (Irish if that is his taste). He is obviously of genius intelligence, puts a lot of thought into his music, and is probably a very inspirational guy. I tried to get Denver's top rock DJ to play Opiate before Undertow smashed though. He didn't. Now songs from Opiate are in his regular rotation. I nailed it, G. :)

  • the only reason i picked "in the fade" by qotsa over this for my college project... was because describing this song would have been like a 15 page paper lol. instead of the 2 page one it took me for qotsa.

  • Truely divine music, thank you TooL....for being

  • Fibonnaci numbers are beautiful. Great vid.

  • Check out the Fib Review online... It's a poetry journal devoted to the Fibonacci stanzas in their various permutations.

  • It's so beautiful.

  • I'm glad they didn't remove the audio. I'd say this falls under fair use if it's for educational purposes. Fantastic video. Thanks so much for sharing this info. It's fascinating and just shows how genius Tool really is. :)

  • I embrace my desire to... I embrace my desire to... feel the rhythm, to feel connected enough to step aside and weep like a widow, to feel inspired, to fathom the power, to witness the beauty, to bathe in the fountain, to swing on the spiral, to swing on the spiral, to swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human. Shivers up and down my spine, every time.
  • @lucasahadley

its my favorite part. its so moving and beautiful. touches me everytime i hear it. it makes me feel so at peace, calm, and seeing the beauty in life.

  • @lucasahadley awesome!!

  • @lucasahadley Fucking 'nuff said, bro.

  • If there is any one person on earth who had a deep and truly insightful understanding of this, it is Maynard James Keenan. The man is an absolute genius. Lateralus is his crowing achievement, there is no other piece of music on this planet that has as much power, influence, and raw emotion as this album. If you just take the time to delve deep inside yourself, throw your entire soul into the music and lose your self-definition, you will understand wholly what I mean.

  • My greatest experience was frying alone on mushrooms. I was losing sanity and lucidity and it kinda freaked me out, so I threw on this album and listened to it all night long. The place I went, the things I experienced, the realizations that I came to will always be with me. There is so much more to the universe than the physical. The universe is conscious, the universe is unknowable, and the universe is spirituality personified. Just take a minute and absorb the beauty of it all.

  • Economist try to measure it, it is called utility. It is so immeasurable that on an x y axis they decided to try to define it in a 3rd dimension. The hill of happiness. You cannot quantify a feeling, You can try to explain what life is with a mathematical equation, but i think this song may have been written to express the exasperation. Just my opinion tho.

  • You miss the dichotomy. The feel part.

  • Also, 6,7,5,8,4,9,13,1,12,2,11,3,10 is not a fibonacci sequence. The significance of that string of numbers is that they sum in spiraling pairs that add to the center 13 and decend in spiraling pairs that add to 13. Arranging the songs in this fashion they perfectly continue one to another musically and things start to make sense. Like the sounds in the beginning of Mantra after Tick's and Leeches final lyrics 'I hope you choke' - they are choking sounds

  • 9-8-7 isn't a time sig. It's 9/8, 8/8, and 7/8 consecutively. Cool vid

  • You sir are very smart and unoccupied.

  • I cannot speak for the band, but I know that Maynard couldn't sing the lyrics on 10,000 Days if he weren't a Bible-believing Christian. He KNOWS what Genesis 6 implies.

  • @cheagan One problem with that; Maynard isn't Christian and is quite the opposite actually. Don't believe me? Check out the lyrics to the song "Judith" by his other band, A Perfect Circle.

  • @Havokreator Say what you will; I know Biblical knowledge when I hear it. Wings For Marie is a conversation between Lucifer and at least one other fallen angel. There is even an interjection from an elect angel. Listen carefully...

  • @cheagan His mother was a devout Christian who was paralyzed for about 27 years which is approximately 10 000 days. He is talking about her and her finally passing away.

  • @Havokreator That may be the case, and I am respectful of her, and his, suffering. But listen to the conversation going on; it might just be the case that Maynard is so adept at songwriting that he can incorporate his own experience with a knowledge of Biblical knowledge.

  • @cheagan He sang that for his mother.

  • Does Tool have ever confirmed your interpretation?

  • man i know what you mean, Tool has opened me up spiritually, Parabola and Lateralus are badass songs, and thanks for the tip man, =)

  • Definitely a perfect order for the album...

I was watching a flock of ravens one by one leave their perches while listening to Lateralus in this sequence... Somehow one of the most... Unexplainably moving events in the last year of my life... Until my girlfriend scared the shit out of me... Couldn't get back into my half-trance...

  • I have the greatest boner right now

  • what is up with eyes on all these tool videos, SOMEONE tell me please, i want to know

  • @dilweedify

they are making reference to opening your third eye. youtube wouldn't give me enough characters to explain it. Read into tool much deeper, they are amazing beyond their years - from the things explained in this video, to their art to the way danny sets up his drums

  • 9:04 Face in the top left with their body being sucked into the spiral.

  • @HandsOfTheTemplar Also at 8:54 just a face.

  • You are incredible!

  • Awesome...I listened to this last night on DMT..listened to three in order from the album..Lateralus, Disposition, and Reflection. Was amazing. I have never been that deep down the rabbit hole. My experience lasted 25 minutes. Mindblowing..I have done it a few times..the longest I was gone was about ten minutes..this was exceptional. Maynard is not a god. He is however, a guide..a shaman for our times. Clarity and insight. He gives reference to what cannot be easily expressed.Luv & peace 2 u all

  • "We will ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been." The Fibonacci sequence is supposed to converge at some point.

  • amazing, wow im gonna go read something now, just wow
