If you're at all interested in this doc, you should read the book Don't Shoot by David Kennedy. Seems to be a similar message, but I haven't watched this doc yet. Very insightful book on gangs, inner city violence, its effects on young, black youth, and how to stop it.

Watching this Interrupters trailer gave me new insight on how just the title of this documentary is. Every time there's an act of gang violence, the spirit of everything the United States represents gets interrupted. It's no longer America. A symbolic tear occurs in the flag which symbolizes the greatest nation in history. You can readily see the person who was victimized but it takes a little effort by the mind and heart to reveal that everyone is victimized when such violence occurs.
the gang situation and shootings on chicago's south and west sides are horrible. too many kids having kids, fathers not around....it's a recipe for disaster. and there needs to be more education, more activities to keep kids off the streets and better job opportunities. right now, it's just a vicious circle of kids not being raised properly or in a good environment. i see the kids having kids as probably the biggest problem. that needs to stop.

Totally inspiring. Now is always the right time to make changes and as witnessed it's never impossible or too late. Difficult, yes, as all good things are. You people are an inspiration not just the violence ether, but with everything we have to deal with in our lives. We are stronger for this and all those brave enough to make that change. There's a lot of untapped potential that's been lost or wasted. The Interrupters and those who join in are Americas supper hero's not the captain.

I saw this trailer a few months ago and saw its rating on Rotten Tomatoes (99%). I've been excited ever since but didnt think id ever see it in theatres. Thankfully, Bell Lightbox in Toronto, is playing it this wk so will be seeing it w/ my gf, an inner city teacher, tmrw. Am excited!!!

You need to look at what the people who commit this stuff were taught, what they "learned" and what they think of the world around them. 95% is due to the breakdown of the famly structure. People always love to judge others when they are sitting in their comfortable homes commenting on the internet. You do not know how a person's life is. Do not matter how similar it even is, there is no right to judge someone else whom you don't know. You do not know what things that person went through in life, nor how his parents raised him (if he eve had parents). Just think with an open mind and know that in certain places life is hard and when violence is all you see, that is all you know.

The trailer is the give-away, "Violence is like a disease. It spreads from one person to another. To cure it, you need to interrupt it." Okay, I realize that's just marketing, but it's also a steaming load of crap. "Violence is a disease, it spreads from person to person" basically implies that there is no free will and therefore no accountability for one's actions. That line of thinking suggests that the murderer is a victim (obviously). Good luck finding a "cure".

Looks like an okay documentary directed by do-gooder white liberal filmmakers. How long can this self-destructive behavior go on in the urban world? Answer: forever. Sad, truly sad. If only they could pull their pants up and get their damn act together, especially now in the age of Obama. A president hasn't made a single, solitary shred of difference, neither has reforming welfare in the 1990s, ending the war on drugs wouldn't do it. You can't fix self-destructive behavior. Watching this Interrupters trailer gave me new insight on how just the title of this documentary is. Every time there's an act of gang violence, the spirit of everything the United States represents gets interrupted. It's no longer America. A symbolic tear occurs in the flag which symbolizes the greatest nation in history. You can readily see the person who was victimized but it takes a little effort by the mind and heart to reveal that everyone is victimized when such violence occurs.

the gang situation and shootings on chicago's south and west sides are horrible. too many kids having kids, fathers not around....it's a recipe for disaster. and there needs to be more education, more activities to keep kids off the streets and better job opportunities. right now, it's just a vicious circle of kids not being raised properly or in a good environment. i see the kids having kids as probably the biggest problem. that needs to stop.
