the sound is bad. take the covers out. put a piece of egg shaped matress padding in there. only about a 12 by 12. dont have your resonant head too tight. you want your resonant head to be about as tight as your beater head

I actually like this kind of bass sound. Although you wouldn't have to muffle it this much. Just put one large pillow along the outer edge of the bass drum against the batter head. It will make the drum louder and more fuller sounding. Otherwise, I like this bass sound, and you have a beautiful bass drum! :P

The problem is that Adler uses triggers on bassdrums in studio(I think) and If he didn't, he would use lots of microphones and gear worth of tens of thousands and studio effects.

I just think acoustic drums are overrated and too praised compared to proper e-drums.

Ill actually try to be helpful unlike the rest of the people here who just bash on you. Search "Bob Gatzen" on youtube. He has some GREAT tips for tuning ALL drums. My favorite video for the bass drum is = "Drummers Only" Bob Gatzen Tuning Tip #4 Bass Drum. Take the crap out of your bass drum, buy some good heads, and start from the basics. You will be pleasantly suprised with the results.

Try tuning just above wrinkles when your hand is placed in the centre of the head and weight is applyed (batter head) then play around with the front head untill your happy with the sound (usually a fracton tighter than above wrinkles). Then use a couple of rolled up towels or somthing to dampen each of the heads.

dude, heres how to tune a bass drum. Tighten the batter head a little, then place your hand in the middle of the head and lean. Then evenly tune each lug just enough so there are no more wrinkles when your hand is placed in the centre and weight applyed. Then tune your front head a fraction tighter untill your happy with the sound. You should get a killer sound and you'll only need a tiny bit of dampening (say 2 roled up towel's) touching the front and back head. You'll be stoked!

1) loosen all lugs

2) place two velcro strips parallel to each other, equidistant from your heads, on the inside bottom of the bass drum

3) place a very small pillow on the strips inside, edges barely touching the heads

4) finger tighten all lugs

5) starting with your beater side, tighten all lugs one full turn

6) feel out your tension around the lugs and make minute adjustments all around until it 'feels right'

It works for me anyway. Hope this helps.
