Hi Samantha. Someone has already beaten you too it re pointing out to me that the person shown is not Gary Busey. Look over earlier responses to find them. However, that is not the point that I am making. See my reply to Ninevah. Actually, I don't care who it is. It has been put with pictures of Buddy, which is misleading.
Hi Ninevah. OK, I stand corrected. However, the point I was making is that this image/photo should not be included on a lot of real shots of Buddy Holly. The implication/hope is that it will be accepted as a real shot by those unable to tell the difference, and there are many people now who would not realize that the shot is not Buddy. Remove it from the collection of real Buddy Holly shots! It is misleading and a bit dishonest. And why was it put in with genuine shots?
People criticizing this performance should take into consideration this is a real stage play with music. They couldn't just cast a jobbing impersonator. They had to have an actor/musician who could go from teen hopeful to successful musician and husband, able to do romance, comic timing (there's loads of comedy in the show) and showmanship. Six shows a week. LIVE. Texan accent all the way. Gus was the best for the job. I think he's superb, anyway.
That's not even Buddy Holly there was no color cameras back than.Good song but its not even Buddy Holly. Buddy also didn't move like that he was very calm only moved his leg look for the videos in black and white that's Buddy Holly
@albertanglo No, actually it's the brilliant Gus McGregor who played him in the stage show for years, London and tours. I was once one of the Apollo players. Gus was my fave Buddy (and I played with 7 of them!)
This is absolute RUBBISH. Did this idiot ever listen to Buddy. Just about the worst effort of all time. Can some one tell me what's wrong with his right leg. There will only ever be one BUDDY HOLLY.
@agamass You realise the lead in this musical could not just be a soundalike impersonator? The actor has to be able to play guitar, act - from teen hopeful to successful musician, husband and businessman; there's a proper script, you know, not just songs! - do comedy and give at least a reasonable Texan accent, six shows a week, live, perfectly. All things considered, Gus is clearly the best man for the (very difficult) job at time of performance.
Today's special offer is a used Lady Gaga AND a clean, unused Justin Bieber for the whopping price of only ONE Buddy Holly! That's right God, trade our 2 *cough* most valued artists for only ONE Buddy Holly!
But wait!-
If you bring back Buddy Holly within the next 30 minutes, you also get a FREE complete and PURE set of the Jonas Brothers with it!
*Payment with Visa, MasterCard and PayPal. Talent not included
Dear uploader... just thought I'd put that video response (Gus MacGregor - Lifeline) of me playing one of my own tunes. It seems like a long time ago that I did Buddy. Way before Youtube..lol. I don't get anything close to doing him justice.... but I'm still proud of the small part I played in keeping his legend alive. I've enjoyed reading the comments here.. good and bad. Gus
@gusmacgregormusic Good for you, Gus. I personally always had you down as my fave Buddy. Alex Bourne a close second. It's far from the easiest role in the world, and perhaps people disparaging you here don't realise the work it took, singing, playing (live and real), acting a whole range of emotions, including doing comedy, doing a Texan accent, night after night. They couldn't just put a soundalike who sounded like Buddy but couldn't act or play guitar up there.
I wonder how Buddy holly and Michael Jackson might have intertwined there music had he been around as Michael come into his own I know that a stretch of the imagination but everything Michael did was a stretch at those times
If i am correct, Buddy Holly was considered black by the black community until they played at the Apollo XD. They thought the band was black. Still awesome song!
I think the BEST Bassist I have ever seen is a guy called Jarrod Coombes, from somewhere down south(Kent?) in England UK, He is in a band called 'Hullabaloo',also has been in a band called 'The Keytones' for over 20 years,he can play that Bass like no other! AND he is the lead vocalist too!
@joeycitybaby No, this is not the real Buddy Holly. The real Buddy Holly was killed in a plane crash on Feb 03, 1959. This is just a Buddy Holly tribute show, by someone imitating the real Buddy Holly. From his accent, the guy playing Buddy sounds English trying to have a Texas accent.
Looks more like Jerry Lewis. Buddy was more original, more natural and improved rapidly with help from studio directors. He wasn't a jumping around idiot.
I just watched this again, and is the band even really playing the song? The guy singing is doing a fine job actually, but the Bass player is horseplaying way too damn much, Slap the damn strings and stop rolling around on the floor with the bass, the guy did that once in the Movie, not for half of the song.
@TheRatedrko12 When did Lou Diamond Phillips ever sing a Buddy Holly song, or sing at all? He played Ritchie Valens in "La Bamba" but did not do the singing (Los Lobos performed the Ritchie Valens songs in the film).
@RobertJeffreyMiller He sang "Oh Boy" at that bar his mother got him a gig at because she knew that bartender, on the movie. his brother plays drums with him in the scene
@FreddyBone17 Ah yes, you are correct. I had to check the DVD as I had forgotten about that. However, as with all of the Valens songs in the movie, it's not Lou Diamond Phillips' voice singing "Oh, Boy!", it's David Hidalgo of Los Lobos.
