Embryonic Stem Cells have been growing into cancerous masses. Why didn't CBS report that?
Now that's the spin I'm talking about in the mainstream media. They report the success of ASCR but the spin "the potential to become cancerous"
And that guy "we have yet to see if they have the same potential". That's funny because ESCR has produced ZERO treatments and ASCR has produced over 70.
Dr. John Gearhart "I think this is the future of stem cell research," (discovered human fetal ES).
Dr. James Thompson: "A decade from now, this [hES controversy] will be just a funny historical footnote, "Isn't it great to start a field and then to end it?" 1st to grow hES AND reprogram skin to 'embryonic' in US)
Sir Martin Evans : "This will be the long-term solution." (Nobel Prize, Med.; 1st isloated ES)
Dr. Ian Wilmut: "this is the future of stem cell research" it's "100 times more interesting." (cloned Dolly, given up on SCNT because this "has better potential for making human embryonic cells which can be used to grow a patient's own cells and tissues for a vast range of treatments.")
We are talking about humans here, not mice, and we are talking a bout a cure now if the laws are changed. I spend a lot of time at U. of M. and I have found out a lot.
Another thing I found out is that most of the stem cell info that comes up on Google and such is put there by churches. This is called misinformation. Why do the churches pay for TV adds and the internet misinformation? They think people are stupid enough to relate it to abortion, that's why.
UCLA (and others) did it with human skin, friend. Comparing the ACTUAL RESEARCH against a google search will show that human embryonic stem cell's hope of potential promises is overhyped ... and researchers want the propaganda toned down a bit because they fear the backlash when cures don't come.
Actually, THIS VIDEO is about turning HUMAN skin cells 'embryonic'. [I don't get the whole embryonic *WoW* though. From: "Mother of All Cells", Scientific American, July 2005, p. A7 states, "ES cells, unlike adult stem cells, cannot be used directly in therapy because they cause cancer. Indeed, one laboratory test for ES cells is to inject them into mice and analyse the teratoma (a tumour formed of foetal tissue) that arises. "]
What do you think could be cured with a change in the law? What do you think the law says? What is this law? How is it preventing this *something* from being cured?
Skin cells don't work and never have. What we need is the new law to pass that will use embryonic stem cells that will otherwise be flushed down the toilet. These are "in vetro" cells already made in a test tube and inserted into the mother. There are thousands and thousands of leftovers that don't get used and end up being flushed down the toilet. Let the new cells live and save lives. Let the new laws pass. Not to mention cures for cancer spinal cord injuries and a host of other ailments.
'Embryonic' from skin is easily reproducable (UCLA just did it, too). They come from a cheek swab, are patient specific, and have already 'cured' sickle cell in mice. Excellent to study disease and for treatment. 'Extra embryos' a finite source; few exist. Top researchers abandoning embryonic for iPS as it is 'the future of stem cell research'. Stem cells from embryos are sooooo 1990s.
Wait, Wait, Wait,

Maybe you should stay away from U of M ;-)

We just got that, and now they're trying to overturn the law banning the creation of embryos for research.

Great video. We discussed this dedifferentiation discovery in our channel here on youtube.
