  • You don't have to tell them that a "sharp piece of glass" is going to be on their eye...that is a lie in itself. I usually describe gonioscopy as a contact lens I use to examine their eye and that they may feel it when I apply it, but it will not hurt. They need to understand that it is actually touching their eye - this is the reason we give them anesthetics. In my experience, patients do very well with gionioscopy and it is usually students that are more nervous than the patients.
