I cannot believe the fisherman were blamed on the depletion of fish in Lake Erie at the time when all this untreated filth was gushing into the lake. If anyone thinks that we don't need at least some government to ENFORCE laws to keep the public safe and a level playing field for business, they're nuts. Sadly, our environmental consciousness also cost us jobs because certain other countries that thumb their nose at us don't do crap to keep their environment clean.
Pouring millions of tons of chemicals and waste into the Great Lakes was just what people did then. Yes, it wasn't right, but it was what people did. Now, thankfully the lake is self sustaining with enormous fish populations and the water is clean... thanks to the invasive zebra mussel. lol
If Lake Erie gets to be 99 44/100% pure, that will be the day when the Indians win the World Series again, or the Browns win the Super Bowl. I think 1962 was the last time I swam in Lake Erie before 1977.

I find this fascinating. There's an honesty here you would hardly ever get from broadcast media now... if at all.

How about the Gwanus Canal in NYC?
Today if you drink the water you will die!
Mayor Bloomberg signed an order making clean up a misdemeaner to help his crooked friends.
Typical NYC.

Not the first time Lake Erie has that problem. It sat on fire sometime in the 70s or 80s.

Classic! Very insightful to see this today. Never forget. Great teaching tool for today's environmental education! Got more?
