I have noticed my Doxie doing this as well. I think they dream about what ever it is they did earlier in the day. Because, one day, my puppy got very scared in the yard. Later that night, his cries were distressed, like when he was afraid. Only my theory. I could be totally wrong.

Is is wrong that I wake up my cat when she starts shaking, twitching and making odd sounds? She just sounds like she's in distress, so I wake her up to make sure she was okay. She purred for a bit, went back to sleep for a few hours and she was very peace-full during that time.

She's a Grey Persian is 11 years old.
