"Casual" games sell, easy to make, and make a LOT of money. Know what they use that money for? That's right, making bigger titles (AKA the "developer's vision" type games) that won't sell as much. In fact, most "hardcore gamers" are pirate games. And they only pirate the GOOD games. Therefore, it's just not profitable to make "hardcore" games anymore. It's a wonder they even come out at all. If the game publishers didn't care, they would ONLY come out with "casual" games.

I'm still impressed that he could do all the scripting, coding, interesting storyline, well you know the rest, nearly everything is impressive for a guy that is doing it alone.
I'm quite disapointed in it, because he needs to work on gameplay, his GUI, the player models, the NPCs. He should take much more time on it before releasing it. After I saw the gameplay of it, it seems as if it were freeware standard, no offense. If he improves it, then he will be a great developer.

What I would suggest to you, Bob, is perhaps porting the game to iPhone. I know the iPhone sucks, but Apple doesn't care who you are and they only make sure it won't crash or cause damage to the iPhone before releasing the game. High quality fames sell very fast and very lucratively on iTunes. Then, you not only make money, but you prove that your game sells. Not only that, but you can even publicly dangle it over the Nintendo executives' heads.
The thing about the dog food is true though. *most* people wouldn't know the difference. But those people would still buy it whether it's dogfood or gourmet. Then the RPG niche market, if the game is good, would end up raving about it. So really, it should be a win/win. But then, executives tend so blinded by money for money's sake that they lose sight of how to actually make profit. Just take a look at how much EA by spending so much on DRM only to lose it because very few buy the DRMed games.

I have to say, development previews of this game have got me sold. The storyline is a creative combination of humorous perspective in a serious world reality. The storyline is deeply compelling, and I desperately want to see more of it. I'll be looking for this as soon as it's released. I certainly hope Canada will be getting it close to the release date. ;)

Halo was made by Bungie, which along with Blizzard are the most loyal to their fans. People who work at Bungie work there because they love making great games. Sure, Microsoft doesn't give a crap, but that doesn't mean Bungie doesn't. Halo and Fallout have stories far more complex than Metroid or Mother. Also, MASS EFFECT.
When I wrote that, I was in a bad mood, I didn't really mean what I said there, I did enjoy Halo, but only the vs. mode. I did not like the storyline, it's just my personal preference that I like Classic games more than newer ones. And I don't hate all new games, I've never played a game by Valve that I didn't like., I just don't like first person shooter type games, which most new games are. Hey Bob. I just re-watched the video and I noticed that, when the camera pans over to Bob, there's a space between the 2 back chair legs and the floor that for a slip second, is black. It looks as if the sprites' circular shadow appears for a moment, then disappears. It could be a layering issue.

The only negative thing I can say about your game is that it reminds me both of Nintendo's former glory (NES, SNES, N64(ish)), and how this former glory is now fleeting.
The screens of your game remind me of how much I miss quality 2-D rpg's with story, created back when games were about story and adventure and not about budgets and having the OMFG NEWEST MOST REALISTIC GRAPHICS.
I really wish Nintendo would just take their overly large head out of their ass and fix this.

Sure, Microsoft doesn't give a crap, but that doesn't mean Bungie doesn't. Halo and Fallout have stories far more complex than Metroid or Mother. Also, MASS EFFECT.

When I wrote that, I was in a bad mood, I didn't really mean what I said there, I did enjoy Halo, but only the vs. mode. I did not like the storyline, it's just my personal preference that I like Classic games more than newer ones. And I don't hate all new games, I've never played a game by Valve that I didn't like., I just don't like first person shooter type games, which most new games are. I apologize to anyone who got angry over what I said, it was a bad move on my part.

@VengefulRonin I agree that this is an extremely long conversation to be reading, but this is pretty much how the game industry works. Look at how many PC games were on the shelves ten years ago versus now. The amount of (non-independent) games that we get to chose from is shrinking as creative people lose their decision-making power. Business school hacks like this suit are running the money show, and marketing figures are their bibles.

Hey Bob. I just re-watched the video and I noticed that, when the camera pans over to Bob, there's a space between the 2 back chair legs and the floor that for a slip second, is black. It looks as if the sprites' circular shadow appears for a moment, then disappears. It could be a layering issue.
It's nothing. But I just thought I should point that out. Consider it as some pre-testing feedback! :)
If you pause at 1:04 you might be able to catch it.

The only negative thing I can say about your game is that it reminds me both of Nintendo's former glory (NES, SNES, N64(ish)), and how this former glory is now fleeting.
The screens of your game remind me of how much I miss quality 2-D rpg's with story, created back when games were about story and adventure and not about budgets and having the OMFG NEWEST MOST REALISTIC GRAPHICS.
I really wish Nintendo would just take their overly large head out of their ass and fix this.

hmm. the voice acting was decent, but fairly obviously one person... though that's keeping fully in spirit of the game, so I'll let it slide. ;D
the BGM-Voice balance was a bit off too, got hard to hear without the subtitles.
all in all, still looking forward to release, just to see what you've got bob. people say there's no reason to think your game's any good, but I don't see any reason to think it's any bad.

If you look at the cinematic trailer and paunse at 4:33 you'll see it says "The Very Powerful And Sweaty Business Executive" and not "Evil Nintendo Executive of Doom"
But yeah, you could still be right. I guess we have to wait for day 100 before we will really know. Unless someone deciphers Bob's mystical messages...
