@holywhackapoly If you go by size and percentile expenditure alone, then yes, the US has the biggest military (50% GDP goes straight to military spending). However, the British army has the toughest selection and training process in the world which produces, on the whole, the best trained soldiers. We may be small, but we are still capable. The reason why we are not as large is we have a smaller population and less money to spend ( we have the NHS and reduced tax revenue etc. )

@RogerBluewood SBS are slighty better than the SAS .thats why you never hear of them. They do not likr their exploits publisized. Dont get me wrong the SAS are one of the best units in the world but the research i have done suggests to me SBS are slightly better probably because they do more amphibias based traing and operations as well as being highly trained in land warfare. The US think delta are the best but tyhe SAS train them, there is always an SAS unit in the US for trainig DELTA units.

lets talk professionalism since the first days of the US Navy and Marines. Case of USS Ranger and HMS Drake. Americans are outgunned in enemy waters and still win the day. Royal Marines didnt even prepare the pre wrapped paper cartridge for the fight night prior. Their rate of fire dwindles after a few shots, meanwhile the US Marines shooting from the fighting tops have already shot the ship's captain through the head and the lieutenant that came to replace him.

At the Battle of Blood River, 460 Voortrekkers faced 10 more zulus than the British did at Isandlwanna and killed 3x more zulus than those British soldiers at Isandlwanna managed to.
There was roughly 1,200 Brits that only killed a 1,000 or so zulus.

I'm a Marine and I had the honor of getting to know some British Royal Marines while I was in Rota, Spain. Those guys are badass mofos (and they can party thier asses off). They are true Commandos and they go through hell to earn thier title. All the respect for them and I'm glad thier on our side. @holywhackapoly If you go by size and percentile expenditure alone, then yes, the US has the biggest military (50% GDP goes straight to military spending). However, the British army has the toughest selection and training process in the world which produces, on the whole, the best trained soldiers. We may be small, but we are still capable. The reason why we are not as large is we have a smaller population and less money to spend ( we have the NHS and reduced tax revenue etc. )

@RogerBluewood SBS are slighty better than the SAS .thats why you never hear of them. They do not likr their exploits publisized. Dont get me wrong the SAS are one of the best units in the world but the research i have done suggests to me SBS are slightly better probably because they do more amphibias based traing and operations as well as being highly trained in land warfare. The US think delta are the best but tyhe SAS train them, there is always an SAS unit in the US for trainig DELTA units.

lets talk professionalism since the first days of the US Navy and Marines. Case of USS Ranger and HMS Drake. Americans are outgunned in enemy waters and still win the day. Royal Marines didnt even prepare the pre wrapped paper cartridge for the fight night prior. Their rate of fire dwindles after a few shots, meanwhile the US Marines shooting from the fighting tops have already shot the ship's captain through the head and the lieutenant that came to replace him.

The problem is simple.
At Rorke's Drift, a 100 1st world riflemen with breech loading rifles and about 40rds a man only killed 3 zulus each.
At the Battle of Blood River, 460 Voortrekkers faced 10 more zulus than the British did at Isandlwanna and killed 3x more zulus than those British soldiers at Isandlwanna managed to.
There was roughly 1,200 Brits that only killed a 1,000 or so zulus.

I'm a Marine and I had the honor of getting to know some British Royal Marines while I was in Rota, Spain. Those guys are badass mofos (and they can party thier asses off). They are true Commandos and they go through hell to earn thier title. All the respect for them and I'm glad thier on our side. It's no wonder why the Marine Corps was originally formed in the image of the BRM's.

Starting with Caen and going to Arnhem, and to present day Basrah and Sangin. We cant trust you with shit, so in the end we had to do things our own way. Which didnt include loosing an airborne division for one town or 2 companies in a 5 yr time frame for one province - present day.
There is a reason 2nd Batt. 9th Marines was deployed to Helmand in the summer of 08. Same with 3/5 to Sangin. You dont run Helmand anymore, thats for sure

time and time again when we trusted the British to a sector even in the June - July time frames of 1944, they failed us. The normandy offensive was bogged down because Monty couldnt take Caen on time from the a bunch of SS hitler youth with tanks. Ive heard of stories of a former hitleryouth riflemen serving with 12th SS that piled up 3 squads of brits around his foxhole before being executed, another story tells of a SS tanker who stopped an entire brit tank column at Villers Bocage.

the early US Marines and Royal Marines met on a couple engagements during the Revolution. They tipped the tide during the Battle of Flamborough Head, by setting HMS Serapis' gunpowder stores, and participated in the taking of HMS Trepassy and Atlanta, as well as the first raids on English soil in over a 100yrs.
They fought in the Battle of Princeton in 1777 and captured most of the Cont. Army's cannon and powder from Brit forts in the Bahamas. While RMs were merely guarding ships.

The Taliban were very fanatical Muslims that originated from Pakistan, sent over the border to secure the border region in Afghanistan and stop Pakistani trucks being attacked whilst travelling through Afghanistan. To be honest it is us British that are doing the moaning not the Americans. I dont think I have seen One American yet saying that their Country has done the most in World War 2. Of course I do see Americans saying that Americas Army is the biggest and most powerful in the World. Well Britain has the best Special Forces Unit in the World: SAS.
