  • repent and run for your lifes. run and hide with Jesus christ.

  • ummmmmmm

  • (A)

  • Chomsky is just the most recent example of the distrust America holds for intellectuals. There are a long line of them, and they tend to be socialists as a matter of fact. It's like beating your head against a wall. Capitalism is becoming more and more hilarious in its farcical attempts to preserve itself. Whatever happened to the ideal of holding ideas contrary to ones own? Apparently that's treason these days.

  • Can anyone make out the books behind chomsky apart from 'balibo' and 'stuffed and starved'?

  • for Nixons "Buy America" program, Boeing entered the public transportation market and built an EMU for Chicagos elevated and a lightrail for Boston and San Francisco.

The 2400 series train was fine and still operates although at 34 years of age it is rapidly approaching retirement, however the Standard Light Rail Vehicle was a notorious disaster.

  • Holy shit. First few seconds of the interview u'll think how neat and organized chomsky is, after that u see the stacked books he obviously read within a day!(exaggerating)

  • I hear that he reads 7 newspapers a day and something like a 100 journals a month.

  • terrible interviewer, great interview

  • I always love these interviews with Chomsky in his office. It allows me to peer at the background so I can see what books he's reading :)

  • Vanderbilt, which ones have you been able to make out?

  • Only the easy ones, I'm afraid. It's hard, but the combination of challenge and curiosity makes it fun, I guess.

Balibo, Stuffed and Starved, The jewish writings, Among the Dead cities (A.C. Grayling), War Stars (H. Bruce Franklin), The Vertigo Years, Web of Deceit...

That's about it. They should do an interview in HD ;-)

  • I can do a close-up of the desk next time. From what I've seen the pile has been growing. He is only there 2 days a week so it's probably hard to get to everything, plus he is traveling a lot more now.

  • Would have been a good idea to use two microphones so that we could hear the interviewer properly as well.

  • Great job interviewer!

  • I wished chomsky lived till he was 400 years old. When this guy dies we'll lose one of the greatest thinking and critical minds in the world.

  • Well, his mind is as sharp as ever. I think he will make it into his 90s.

  • Kraeron,

Thanks for posting youriidea on Noam living longer. I am love this man so much because of his humanity that I started to tear up and I know I have to take off from work in Paris the day he passes.

If anyone is from Paris please contact me for getting together on this day to remember The Noam

But remember he started what we all have to finish in his name. Study yourself, like I am, and together, maybe we will be an equal force.

  • @kraeron His linguistic work was brilliant, but his political and economic views border on idiocy. Why do you think he is giving an interview for a paper that has about 25 readers?

  • Workers of the world unite!

Let's inaugurate a new era of world revolution!

  • regions and cities and towns first need their own commuter trains, rapid transit/metro, and streetcars or light-rail before you can start considering high-speed rail.

Otherwise how do you get to the high-speed rail and what do you do once you arrive at your destination - drive?

  • depends on the region. He's also talked about car sharing and subway systems and all sorts of other alternative transport options.

Also, it's not just transport of people, but goods. Also decreases air travel which is a big polluter as well. There is a number of ways you can look at this.

  • rapid transit/metro = subway or elevated train system operating inside a city.

  • UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM - Kinda hard to watch - You should type the question and just show Chomsky's answer it

  • Good interview so far, but her saying um around a linguistics professor that much seems ironic.

  • um UMM Um ummmm...uMMMM...Noam's grinding his jaw fo sho.

  • Balibo is at the top of Chomsky's reading pile. Good book.

  • ummm...ummmm...ummmm......:P good interview though

  • hey I would be worse if I met chomsky ha

    great interview

  • Umm, right. I do that too, it takes a lot of practice to stop the habit if you're doing it as an adult. Good thing Chomsky is a thorough interviewee, he doesn't skimp on the subtleties. I'm sure she'll improve in time.

  • She was a bit nervous I think. Don't bash her haha

  • I know, I could be an as* sometimes :). great interview...!

  • who wouldn't be nervous around The Chomsky

  • I wouldn't.
