Please tell me that he does Shaft live somewhere? So many reasons why and how Sammy was great but just consider how he really didn't like this song and you can see him smooth his disdain with Jerry Lewis sarcasm and then gives it such heart all the way after that. One of the best total package entertainers in my mind.
i would trade everything i own, to get him, frank sinatra and dean martin back on to the stages of today whith these songs. man i was born in the wron era
Always nice to see these videos surface.I (James Leary) am on Basses, acoustic and electric and Clayton Cameron on drums and we did know this was being taped.
Sammy's touring musicians at this time were george Rhodes ,Conductor
sorry guys but I believe its not a 88 release, because that was in munich with frank and liza. this must be 1976, grand openig from dortmund hohensyburg casino, thats why he is more or less so close to his audience.and i saw him live 88 in munich and sorry to frank, he was the best act this very special evening. god bless them heavenlydays
moonwalk. michael jackson who? and was this before or after motown 25- 1983. If it was before then we have been wrong about michael. does anyone know the date of this video?
Moonwalk is just a term made popular by Michael Jackson the "dance style" and feet shuffeling moving around on stage have been done at least since the 1950's by Jazz and Rn'B performers.
I just bought the DVD of this performance and it is a classic. The entire show is fantastic. Sixty minutes of showmanship and swinging style with Mr.Entertainment himself, Sammy Davis Jr.
great footage of one the greats on stage, love it! but whoever yanked the footage of Frank in Germany and Italy should have their foot yanked shoved their ass!
Simply His Best Song Along Side Mr.Bojangles He's A lengend It doesn't matter what he does he'll always be remembered as 'The Entertainer's Entertainer'

I'm on board with Thumper17. In fact, if I had to rate the number one worst song from that time period it would have to be The Candy Man. It's even worse than Captain and Tenille's Muskrat Love or The Archies Sugar Sugar. The very words to Candy Man put me into a diabetic coma, and I'm not even diabetic. But Sammy was at least smart enough to know that it sucked, I guess the melody was what grabbed people.

If they ever did a Sammy Davis jr story I think Flavor Flav would be perfect for the part! Without the Viking hat, gold teeth & the clock necklace.

Yeah, I know what he means. Like Sinatra hated "Strangers in the Night"
