Well it is usually the men who end up financially ruined and the women is usually the one who initiate the divorce. I have seen it happen both ways, but usually it is the man who end up with nothing.
I know few women who don't work or know how to manage finances. So, this advise is not only unecessary , but misleading and causes a conflict that might not ever end. It is not the women who need help, it is the men. The system is very biased against men
