Rendering wise i use AVI.. then import it to sony vegas then render it .. to mpeg or mov i think and it sorts it out to a small file

when i render it, the file is about 900mb and wont play! if i change the quality to a third, it is obviously still 300mb but i get like a distorted image. what size image should i start with? and what file type should i make it?

they're both the right settings. all i do when i finish is export right? i'm tryin again to export as quitime movie (.mov). how would i exoport as mpeg if i wanted to?

Your not clicking "file" then "export" are you? if so that's kinda the wrong thing to do. In animation we use a process called "rendering". when editing is finished click "composition" then "add to render queue". In the lower left of the screen u will find a tab labeled "render queue". Click it and notice there is one item in this queue, your video. It's a pain because all the setting options are so small but change them to you want then click the "render" button on the right of your screen.

also, when i have done the last keyframe, what shall i do then? i have just tried to 'export' it as .mov which took about 5mins. then when i viewed it after, it was just a still image :(

I would imagine you didn't set the start/duration times correctly, check by "composition" at the top, then "composition settings". It's the last two boxes at the bottom you want to check. Does it start at the begining? Is the duration set to zero because then it would probably only render the first frame, if that.

That's up to you really depending on big you want the file, but if your working towards your video going onto a DVD then render as an MPEG-2 file as for this is what format they use.
