  • Yeah fucking hell!

  • Seems kind of pro-rape, actually. Fuckin rocks, though.

  • I realize this song is not supporting rape which I detest. It is an interesting song

  • @differentandalike It's about doing meth. From back in the day.

  • they wouldn't play this song live for a long time because people thought it was somehow pro rape. i'm glad people got their heads out of their collective asses.

  • germs are better ;p

  • @HarrisAllinBowie germs? um no headaches all night == they had their"moments" == bobbye pyn loved robbie "beachboy" & could not withstand the criticism +++ v.sad

  • @HarrisAllinBowie The germs were great!

  • If you know X, you would never believe they would write a song condoning rape. Listen to "See how we are", "Fourth of July", etc.

Truly the BEST of the LA punk bands!

  • SHOULD BE IN THE HALL OF FAME

  • This song is about a RAPIST named Johnny -- not rape in general. I strongly doubt that John Doe is singing an autobiography here.

Does describing someone's actions as a "hit and run" sound positive ?

X was so brilliant, smart, sharp and strong. And they are still misunderstood !

  • Best band to come out of the L.A. scene, hands down.

  • DECADES BEFORE THEIR TIME!!!

  • This shits it's own genre

  • well there isn't a part of it that i can hear that says its against rape tho i can see that it may be against it if they said so..(huh)

  • This is not about rape, you dumb -fuck. Listen closer. Or, maybe you weren't there and want to pass judgement all these years later. Either way, shut up and dance. Or not.

  • I love john doe's line in Roadhouse, "Why dont you make me? CHICKEN DICK!

  • X drummer DJ Bonebrake recalls his band's misfortune caused by the infamous Los Angeles punk riot of 1979. Read more at The Worst Gig (WorstGig.com).

  • i remember x opened a show for pearl jamin the 90's,they were aquick replacment for the vandals, the grunge rockers had no idea what to make of x,not one person had a clue how bitchin this band is

  • FAKK DAMN..........I LIKE THIS SOUND,,ROCKA BILLY SOUND

  • Hey, this clip is from The Decline of Western Civilization.

    Rock the fuck on!

  • stiffy

  • They are the doors, I can totally hear it. It's the same guardian angel. I hear the doors! Even deep into the songs, my pea brain thinks the same pea brain thoughts as listening to the doors!

  • @Dastreagus ray manzarek produced them, they recorded soul kitchen on their first album ;)

  • perfection! thanks

  • Epic.

    sexed once every hour."

  • because i do, blue spark, adult books, sugarlight, you're phones off the hook (buut your not)

  • @MostKurtful Los Angeles, The Worlds a Mess Its in my Kiss, Were Desperate, The Hungry Wolf, Soul Kitchen

  • @MostKurtful ---the entire first album entitled "Los Angeles" which has this and Nausea

  • I was in my 20's during the 1979-1983 punk rock era. Most members of hard-core punk bands were either very angry/cynical in their appearance or had a disinterested hypnotic look. In this clip, it was really good to see how much fun John Doe & Billy Zoom were having performing for a small club audience.

  • This song seems very 50's. And I like it.

  • penelope spheeris was right to film so much of john doe, unf....

  • Comment removed

  • Amazing band. Come see X at Voodoo Experience in New Orleans over Halloween Weekend!

  • X JAPANS BETTER

  • I adore X and this is one of their best songs but damn, video cameraman ,back off of John Doe's face!

  • @redxross that's a funny comment. go tell it to penelope spheeris the director, to back-off.

she was the one filming this on 16mm, not video. this one show was shot at club 88 in west la.

i was helping her during all the live shows. and yes, this is one of X's top 5 best songs for sure.

  • sex once every hour !

  • UHU \o/ essa música é muito boa. \m/

  • fuckin best band not to make it

  • this song is about rape :D

  • @TheKillaComa yes, but it is against rape :)

  • @TheKillaComa The sky is blue.

  • @TheKillaComa

    g ya fukin tink

  • @TheKillaComa Do you think in that case that the wide open smilie face is really appropriate?

  • @TheKillaComa this song is against rape, no smiley face

  • @luhelvis Why does a song have to be for or against anything? It's telling a story. Like acting; if an actor plays the role of Hitler, doesn't mean the actor agrees with Hitler's ideas.

  • @luhelvis The song is about shooting meth. Nothing more, nothing less.

  • @TheKillaComa The song is AGAINST RAPE! John Doe declared in an interview that they decided to never play it again when they realized that people misunderstood the lyrics.

  • Those nine 'thumbs down' are banksters at Gold Man Sacks.

  • X is playing this june 3rd!!!!!!! house of blues anaheim!!!!!!!! go go go

  • X is still living unlike the Germs who died in 1980 after Darby Crash killed himself

  • If anyone had a video of X doing POOR LITTLE GIRL please post it. It was one of their more commercial songs, but I love the lyrics.

  • Un bon groupe punk/rock qui a marquer ma jeunesse... Merci

  • ouch I miss the good old days, Billy Zoom stare out at you forever, never look at his guitar. These were the days when conspiracy was hidden, unlike today where it is in everyone's freaking toad face, and still the zombies will never waken. Only punks belong in heaven

  • this movie rocks...I think I still have my vhs copy!!!

  • if you guys like x check out john doe and the sadies

  • X has got to be the most unconventional punk band I've ever seen. Most punk bands were loud three chord rock with inspid lyrics and questionable talent. Not the case with X. Who ever jeard of a punk band with harmonies? Some of their songs have a straight up early rockabilly feel. Punk isn't supposed to be this complex, and these four are innovators and geniuses to boot, and fuckin' Billy Zoom is just straight up badass!

  • john doe <3

  • My computer just melted and I have to type this fast befo

  • Don't forget DJ -- one of the great rock & roll drummers of all time. Every beat on purpose, always at the service of the song. Wonderful musicians, all of 'em!

  • seattle? Not bad... I saw them 9 times in the early 80's-- 6 in LA and the rest in San Diego. Nothing in the world can compare to being in the pit when they start their next number and it's Johnie hit and runPauline! Sheer energy!

  • i remember reading about this band in `zigzag` i bet they were a great live act

  • @unclemort1960 They are still playing lots of show!

  • @bduffy91 are they coming to london?

  • There are not many event more memorable than seeing X during the early 80s, especially in Seattle! The movie stands out as a life altering experience...

  • Thanx for posting this gem. Can't decide what I like best about this band. Billy Zoom, Exenene, our John Doe.

  • if I could marry a band....this would be them ♥

  • Remember that tune about that lousy night in Cleveland on Big Black Sun??? I was one of the only 40 people there!!! I was on the warm-up band's guest list (The Adults, Crystal Grey, Rob Harpy, Paul Michael t!!) X played at the old Pirate's Cove in Cleveland, what was it, 85 or 86, the Adult's warmed-up, and even though there were only 40 people there, it was still in my top 20 shows of my life all time. It was like a private party!!! No reason to feel down about that show, it was great!!!

  • hell yes, bitches!! i was there, mate. 'los angeles' forever.

  • best guitar solo...

  • John Doe looks fucking HOT!!!

There is no X without Exene Cervenka.

Billy Zoom does look like Conan/Brian Setzer here!

DJ Bonebrake is one of the best drummers ever!

X!!! The band! What a great band!!! Legendary!!!!!

  • i always forget that connan o'brian was an early eighties punk rock guitarist. the more you know!

  • Holeee Shit! Thats the guy that played the part of Jerry Lee Lewis' cousin in Great Balls of Fire...and was also Jerry's, (Dennis Quaid), bass player in the movie. HAd a great line in it I always loved...about getting a bride; "yep, gotta get 'em young and raise 'em up just like you would a bird dawg"...unfortunately for him, in the movie, it was his 13 year old daughter and Jerry's cousin, that married Jerry Lee across state lines. She was played by Wynona Ryder. Great flick.

  • X is better the Japanese band x japan

  • saw them open up for 'the motels' funny how real music lasts. never hear about the motels anymore... oh yeah los lobos came on first and they had the whole place (long beach arena) dancing

  • Billy Zoom is a great guitar player, but he cracks me the fuck up!

  • Billy Zoom is a modern Chuck Berry tuned for Punk Rock

  • Billy actually played with Gene Vincent, during the Chuck Berry Era! Love em both.

  • @plimsoul222 Actually, Zoom and Doe are huge into Rockabilly, always were. Both are close friends of Dave Alvin, how did work with both after the initial breakup of X.

  • @plimsoul222 Well put

  • @plimsoul222 Thats exactly what i thought to myself when before i looked at the comments. Swear.

  • I Appaud X for writing Johnny hit and run Paulene

Those boy/men ( as john doe described them in the history of rock& rol)

Should've listened to the song before getting into it for the wrong reason

  • 1.45 seconds in, the greatest rock & roll guitar solo ever!

  • GREAT SONG, GREATER BAND!! seen them live 10 + times now. sorry about exenes health. wish that she could play forever!! but if the worst comes to pass and she can't i really hope that they think about giving the Lady Gaga a call to fill in for her. it takes a great singer to fill another great singers shoes and the Mother Monster can do it!!!

hello dime and dickster. BWA HA HA HA!!

ill see you over at the blasters

    just my opinion. KISSES!!

  • How can anyone dislike this? o.o

  • Could anyone tell me where to get proper tabs for this song i've learned pretty much most of it by ear but ya know

  • Oh yeah! Best band in concert ever! Billy Zoom, D.J. Bonebreak, John Doe & Exene Cervenka!

  • seen them at whiskey got slammed in mosh pit, people spitting everywhere nice show

  • seen at whiskey slammed in mosh pit

  • @lordwar27 That "woman" and her eerie harmonies with John Doe is the reason they were successful.

  • Billy is like a character from the book The Ousiders, hes definitely a Greaser.

  • John Doe is HOT!!

  • I seen em last time in like 84 at the grrek thetre or something for white girl or something one of my favorite bands of all time

  • 5 people are deaf

  • Saw them at the On Broadway Theatre in the early 80's. Very intimate venue, now sadly gone. I was in the front row and could see up Exene's tartan mini-skirt. John Doe seemed very protective of her. After they had a little success, saw them at the Kabuki Night Club. A larger venue which is now a movie theatre.

  • the best concerts i ever saw were x concerts!!

  • its good to see you all love billy. back in the day, there was this weird resentment about him - probably because he was so cool. when I saw them back in 82, boneheaded guys (like some of you) bellowed "fuck you billy" all night long.

    you know who you are

  • XXXXXXXX Punk XXXXXX XXXX searing XXXXXXXX painful XXXXXXX pure XXXXXXXXXXXXXX you had to be there XXXXXXX careful children XXXXXX what a mess of life thereXXXX insane rush crazy fun XXXXXX beware the words XX listen to life. WHAT A BAND

  • XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX. punk.XXXXXXXXXXX searing.XXXXXXXXXXX PAINFUL.XXXXXXXXXX the real thing.XXXXXXXXXXXfun XX out of your mind XXXXX you had to be there. XXXXX what a song XX careful! those words mean something

  • billy zoom is just the coolest, dig the sparkle jet gretsch guitar

  • XoX

  • i doubt many other 18 year olds have seen this band live. im damn lucky.

  • @howdyhoyo They just finished a tour. Saw their last show in St. Paul. Awesome, better now than then!

  • Jeeeezuuz!! Billy Zoom n' that damned guitar STILL gives me goosiebumps

  • yep, this is how I roll................today

  • i love this song

  • AAHHHHH why is X so friggin good. fucking quality punk, they always make my day

  • Billy Zoom plays some kick ass guitar. Punk Rock bands like X brought rock and roll back to its roots.

  • i think they should get rid of the chick. all she does is backup vocals anyway it seems. she doesnt even do an instrument. john doe and billy zoom and the drummer are all the band needs

  • @1JAT1 ARE YOU DEAF???

  • @1JAT1 hahahahahaha you are one dumb cunt... get rid of the chick? That's Exene Cervenka you fucking lame ass fag...

  • @1JAT1 While the rest of the band is great, Exene's off the wall harmonies is what puts them over the top and sets them apart. They wouldn't be X without Exene.

  • @ruebarbie I agree with your comment

  • BILLY!!!

  • de los primeros videos de punk que vi en mi vida!!!!

maldita sea es si es la repicha, no ese monton de grupitos que dicen ser punk y lo que tocan es una mierda pop

  • EPIC SONG!!!

Billy was this great hidden Jean Vincent of the scence~!!!

  • for anyone who dosen't like this......please go somewhere else, for you do not know. You are a moron, and please fall in a hole.

  • I like X but Exine or what ever her name is has one of the worst voices in music history. Makes it hard for me to like X but Doe and Zoom are great.

  • she was still awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake

  • Who are the four fuckwads who disliked this? Cockgobblers.

  • @RussianHillHandyman - I happen to be one of the people you mention in your one-word second sentence. I'm not one of the dislikers, though. :)

  • @Timmybear Cockgobbler? Yes. Fuckwad? No. You're OK in my book.

  • @RussianHillHandyman some nazis most likelyand now its 6 :(

  • @RussianHillHandyman I think a better question is why anyone would like this, lol.

  • @Thatguy301 i think a better question is why you're here?

  • @RussianHillHandyman so they're gay if they don't like x? how's that now? i prefer "glenn beck lovers."

  • @popphilosher

"Gleen Beck lovers" hahaha! What a great insult!

  • @popphilosher perhaps you're taking me too literally. You're also assuming they're all men.

  • @RussianHillHandyman Notice the score is now NINE cockgobbling fuckwads!! As for me, I love this!!!!!!

  • @Hammered001 I'm pretty sure it's just my ex-girlfriend creating aliases and trying to annoy me.

  • X fucking rocks

  • Was there ever a cooler guitarist? Maybe, but in this day and age!

  • Truly one of , if not the best American band. Timeless as is genius, talent evidenced, the best band Ive ever seen live, i lived in W LA in the 70's, it was another time many never made it through, excess was best was the motto.

  • fucking brilliant, one of the very best bands ever!

  • If you listen to the audio from the soundtrack album while watching this video, you can tell they must have gone back in the studio and done a little overdubbing here and there.

  • Chills down my fucking spine and the hairs standing on end its so fucking good.

  • Absolutely the best fuckin' American rock and roll band to never get played on commercial radio for the past 30 years and I will love 'em until the day I die ! As far as I'm concerned they belong right up there with the Byrds, Jefferson Airplane, The Grateful Dead, Creedence and any and every other group of musicians who were/are capable of reducing you to tears of undiluted joy...

  • this song da best punk rock song ever

  • never forget seeing the Decline for the first time and being blown away by X (and Germs, CJs, Flag, Fear) raw stuff!

  • I'm still pissed Johnny didn't get nominated for his work in "Roadhouse". I actually said that to him when I met him after a show and he put me in a headlock and made me say "uncle John". Classic.

  • John Doe is sooooo f'n HOT!!!!!

  • Well put, DrRobBob.

  • 5 stars with laudation.

  • 2:47...

  • what?/?? when I heard X like 3 years ago I didn't like them but now that I'm hearing them again they fucking rule!

and I don't know whta you mean...the "woman in the back" doesn't ruin the song

  • "ya mama didn't know what hot was till got up under some lights" fucking hilarious

  • kayllo15 you are an IDIOT!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Billy Zooooom!!!!

I wish you tube hadn't pulled the vid for this song though...creepy as Hell.

  • I think the dissonant harmonies between John and Exene are either hit or miss with most people. I think the song would be boring without Exene's vocals.

  • @lendryesky more creepy.... mwahahahahaha!!!!

  • @lendryesky

Man you nailed it! as to disonant harmonies, but Billy Zoom, Boring???? right,

his guitar can wake the dead its so bad!! i dig his coolness, He'd be jamming, and like a rock stance , not flipping and knocking crap around like hes walking on hot coals! and the head just went back and forth as a robot I remember thikingm must have had Ludes then! lol.

  • @kdgrayson1 I wasn't calling Billy Zoom boring at all. I just think this song would be a lot duller without Exene's vocals. I don't know about you, but when I listen to this song, the hook is when Exene's vocals come in. More so at the end of the second verse than the chorus. Billy Zoom is a very good guitarist and probably much better than any other punk guitarist that there's been.

  • @lendryesky Have you ever heard Billy when he is playing Rockabilly or Jazz? Jesus, this guy is a MONSTER guitar player. And he makes his own amps! Heard that is how he supplemented his income doing tech work. As far as any other punk guitarist goes, Billy was almost ALWAYS in tune. I don't think most punk guitarists really care about that.

  • @tatsandteles It depends as some could actually play, not all were playing three chords!

  • @maclennan73 True, but that was part of the whole punk 'thing', the antithesis of polished, produced music. I am not trying to be judgmental here, I have a real love of that music. I grew up on the Dolls(still out there), X (recently drove 16 hours round trip to see them in the twin cities), The Dead Boys, and one of my all time fave bands, the Sex Pistols. I'm a knuckle dragger!

  • @maclennan73 Hey assclown , if you can play 1/2 as well, you wouldnt be a troll hating a Rock Star!

Gee funny how I never heard of you EVER!LOL, ACTUALLY PLAY? WHAT A BANJO / NAKED WITH HILLBILLYS CHASING YOU?

  • @tatsandteles

    He makes his own amps?

    Now thats DIY!

  • @YewLogs026 Yes. I think he does all of Brian Setzers amps as well. At least I know he USED to. Smart guy, great player.

  • Jesus. I can't believe you just referred to Exene as the woman in the back. Eww....

  • i know wtf?!?

  • lol ok jesus im sorry. i jus forgot her name. i knew that it had and x n it. dont gang up on me jus cuz i didnt know her name. i love this song neways so sheesh

  • OH PLEASE...you love this song but have the nerve to say she ruins the song..?

that doesn't make sense at all..
