  • OH YEA! SWEET!!

  • Thanks very.

    The best version.

    Natacha.

  • @mspanzergruppen I would say 1951 to 1989

  • For my money, this is the best version of this song. Not the most musically interesting, but still the best because of the attitude, the crowd, the rhythm section, the drive. This is what Lou Reed is all about.

  • @mspanzergruppen ... agree with ya there... UFO almost went "supergroup" status if personel could have kept it together... last band to break huge was GUNS & ROSES.... but back in end of 60's and thru 70's there were really awesome big bands !!

  • I wanna be in that club, with my pals, blind drunk & bouncing around up the front...what a fucking tune......shovel on the attitude!

  • BUT REALLY ? Velvet Underground !

  • I think the is the best version of sweet jane, lou's raw commentary and interaction with the people is just the essence of lou reed. Amazing times.

  • @mspan You bet I had a blast in the seventies. I turned 12 in 1970 and I turned 21 in 1979. I definitely love seventies music. And all the rest that went along with loving music in the seventies.

  • You bet I had a blast in the seventies. I turned 12 in 1970 and I turned 21 in 1979. I definitely love seventies music.

  • I've just listened to the best version on another channel.

  • My best friend used to hide in the wardrobe of hotels with me Sweet Jane) ... that I used to pay for ... and I later married .. Marcus lidster ..... xxxx

  • yeah, but hes talking about smack

  • When my parents used to bust me on a regular basis they happened to find my copy of white light white heat that i'd been using to roll on.which was their cue to ask " they look like a bunch dope addicts -do you want to turn out like THEM ?'. I was inspired to seek the answer to that question & responded by stashing my Sweet Jane in their room .Nothing prompts creativity like repression.

  • Questa è la versione del doppio dal vivo: Take no prisoners.

  • Lou's Best Comedy album..the version of "How I wrote "walk on the wild side'"...

  • /watch?v=tVWdiEkXbSk

  • A propos the picture: Are you sure that's Moe Tucker on the drums? I'm not.

  • @53munk Definitely not. This is Lou Reed solo 1978 tour.

  • 4:34 "Political about what? Give me an issue, I'll give you a tissue... to wipe my ash with it..." Brilliant!

  • Definetely best Sweet Jane ever!!! unique!

  • great version, i wanna thank all those little people? political about whattttt>/>?

    BAD ASS!

  • You're sitting there by the fire man

So let your fire, you plug it in

    I like make believe fire

I like make believe love too

Oohh mama, give me some make believe love

Hey: Make believe love: that's a album title, Michael,

    write that down, quick,

and fuck if I forget it

  • @jesekahrose electric fire, you plug it in...... great franking tune aint it? Uncle Lou at his best

  • when was this recorded? what year?

  • @markomajka 1978

  • "Give me an issue, ill give you a tissue, wipe my ass with it"

  • lou's performance on the david letterman show is my favorite version. But yet theres so many great versions.

  • Fucking wild. There is one Lou in the whole world. No one could sing like him. Great live and 'fun' version. Awesome drumm... background.

  • Comment removed

  • He wasn't afraid of changing his own songs...Every version of sweet jane I've heard is different; of course, Reed himself was one of a kind

  • Yes, a good version, very good version.

  • Where was this?

  • i have heard a better live version.x

  • 4:28 "you a political dude? Political about what? Give me an issue, I'll give you a tissue you can wipe my ass with it! "

  • I have the album on vinyl and I have the Lou Reed Live album that appears to be from the same gig, with same line-up. Wonderful version of 'Oh Jim' on it.

  • The best live version of Sweet Jane is from the "Rock and Roll Animal" album.

  • Comment removed

  • @llenllenllenl This is the best LIVE version ever! Lou at his best!

  • @llenllenllenl Of course, Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner are superb. IMO one of the best live albums ever.

  • @llenllenllenl True.

  • @llenllenllenl You're so damn right man!

  • @llenllenllenl

nope. bloated bombast of corporate influence.

  • @llenllenllenl Best Version of Sweet Jane it the one off of Rock and Roll Animal

  • Holy smoke!!!

  • I WISH I HAD JESSIE'S GIRLLL!!!

  • Sorry guys/girls, but the best version of this song is by the Cowboy Junkies! Kick back and give it a try....

  • @bulltastik

Agreed, but the '69 Live version by VU, on which it was obviously based, is IMO the best by the originators of this any-which-way-brilliant song.

  • @bulltastik Junkies version is good but nothing can beat the original lou reed and Velvet Underground tracks!

  • @0ooHAYDENoo0 Oddly enough Lou has stated that the Junkies version is the best and purest version he's ever heard. Personally I like the live 1974 version with the long intro the best.

  • I'm on playback number 2. Good headphones make the difference. Pshawwww....loving it.

  • This really ISSSS the best live version!

  • Used to see the velvets live at La Cave in cleveland, walked right by lou and the rest on the flippin sidewalk on their way to the gig. those were the daze

  • Always loved the sax in this version, grew up on this shit and it helpen me distinguish good music from shit music like mostly everything we see on TV.

  • see Piggy Piper live cover in Barzana

  • like that shit, and the version and the recording

  • Wow>>> standin on that corner......SWEET......miss those sweet days,,now have 4 kids,2 cars 2 jobs.......and a pool! LOVE this...

    \MamaJAz

  • great jane sweety jane

  • On take no prisoners Lou deconstructs his most famous songs and gives a fantastic and dark edge to them I love this album

  • saw him in Cleveland's Public Hall. Maybe 74? Hall and Oates were the warm up band (right after their War Babies album). WTF year was that?

  • This is the shit

  • Lou tells a heckler "If you write as good as you talk, nobody reads ya."

  • So instesive and intimate rock'n Roll

  • some one upload street hassle man, same gig....

  • Pls see Piggy Pieper version and give me an opinion

  • Funny commentary by Lou and a lot of fun. Take No Prisoners a great, original record. Some of Lou's comments on the record would fall foul of the PC enforcers today. Fuck these little people.

  • what a tune and it says everything that is going through my heid at the moment

  • saw him in Lakewood Ohio with Patti Smythe maybe very early eighties

  • saw him in Lakewood Ohio with Patti Smythe

  • AMERICA.

WE GOT HIM GUYS HES DEAD

  • Love it!!!! Thanks for putting it out there!!! Just waiting for my man...that's my dealer...not my lover

  • YEAH! Without a doubt the best live version! I just got paid back for all the ripoffs and that rickroll asshole!

  • This sounds great. Uh...what's the deal with him talking about Barbara Streisand? She could cover "Oh, sweet nuthin'..."

  • Saw the complete band w/ nico, across from what was going to be the electric factory in Philly, I became experianced that night, what a night and what a Band , thanks LOUUUUU, saw him in Richmond Va. and he kicked their ASSES with that Band he took to Germany, The man still Rocks the HOUSE

  • 1979, mi sembra, stadio di Bologna... io c'ero!

  • I love the Velvet Underground as true avante garde. Avant-garde (French pronunciation: [avɑ̃ɡaʁd]) means "advance guard" or "vanguard".

it was the true merger of art and music which has never been duplicated again. I was born in 1968 I wll trade my date of birth for acceptance into the band

  • still the only motto in rock'n'roll: take no prisoners

  • definite MITCH HEDBERG @ 2.13

  • what year is this from?

  • @icy9ff8 1978...its from Take No Prisoners.

  • @icy9ff8 Album "take no prisoners"

  • I seen him at a free show (for me) at The World Music Theater. Walked in there a hater walked out a Lou Reed believer. Great show!!!

  • FUCK RADIO ETHIOPIAN, I'M RADIO BROOKLYN.

  • @STREETCARish hey, miami!

  • standin' on a corner, dime bag in my hand...

  • Ya know. You win a cookie!! Damn, this REALLY IS the best live version!!! Thank you! Wicked!

  • Is that his nan bottom left?

  • this is what freedom sounds like

  • F A N T A S T I C

  • Love this song!!

  • One of THE best rock and roll song EVER

  • Already twelve times today

  • called my daughter jane i wonder why

  • This is great, but is it is not the best version. On Rock and Roll Animal is still the best.

  • @ramzyred

I agree completely. Rock 'n' Roll Animal is still my favorite Lou Reed album.

  • fuckin' wow!

  • This IS from Take no prisoners. double live i think from 76. It had a sticker on it said this album is offensive. its brilliant. i dont think he would have been on cocaine. prob some sort of amph.

  • 4:50--"We'll put the head in, if you don't like it, we can talk about it." I want that on my gravestone.

  • Love his commentary about Babs Streisand, the Oscars, and Wyoming. Fucking brilliant. Lou Reed is the best.

  • On which record is this version to be found ?

  • i love it!! can anyone tell me from what album this song is?? thanks!!

  • @loksartre Must be from 'take no prisoners'. Very cool double album. Think he's on cocain or something. Walk on the wildside is also funny with the elaboration on how the song came to being.

  • @bookshots thanks a lot :)

  • OOOOOOOOOHHHHHH BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

  • Fantastic version of this song (off one of the weirdest albums in my collection..).

  • lou reed can "bend"a word like guitar masters "bend"a note,.,.the V.U. were WAYYY AHEAD of their time, its took decades for people to catch them up,even their drug references were filled with regret+warnings to others,,,a flirt with the scene is enough ,get out alive,,change heroin to heroine in praise of mothers that created us ,and all women that have suffered,,,,,,,,,AMEN

  • That bloke to the left, looking at the screen ,reminds me of the great Dennis Hopper. Great version of a great song.!!!

  • @Teddyb1939 hehe thats a lady maureen tucker, drums :)

  • @rheaprinzmetal O/K that "Girl" still looks like the great Dennis Hopper, he was a looker in his younger days anyway. You don`t think it was Dennis on one of his trips do you,Ha Ha,Thanks for informing me, I do love Lou Reeds sound & this track in particular. Keep on rocking.

  • @Teddyb1939 yeah i can see him lol

  • me honey i`m ib a rock and roll band

  • One day in the early 1970's I was walking into the University of California campus in Berkeley from Telegraph Avenue and heard the greatest version of "Sweet Jane" in my whole life. Just one guy with a cheap electric guitar and a tiny Pignose battery amp (remember those?), playing and singing really fast, but with a lot of rhythm. I was overwhelmed. I thought that Lou himself could learn from this cat. Sometimes the greatest rock of all is in the streets!

  • @BobBerkeley DUDE YOU ARE SOOOO FUCKIN RIGHT... I LIVE IN A TOWN WIT A LOT OF STREET MUSICIANS... I LOVE EM!!!! SO MUCH MORE FEELING AND HEART COMES FROM THEIR SOULS...

  • @BobBerkeley interesting ,i wonder what became of the bloke-hes probably a high flying lawyer now.

  • @unclemort1960 You, sir, are probably, unfortunately, right. Ouch!

  • @BobBerkeley that *WAS* Lou.

  • @redc1c4 If only!

  • I love the way he says "ooh ooh" at 6:15

  • Gotta love Lou Reed. This is one of the best versions I've heard. Thanks!!!!!!

  • there has to be somebody from Wyoming!!!!

  • @elderthewelder No, it's make-believe state. No one has actually been there, or been from there.

  • I hear ya knockin' but ya can't come in...me? HeyhoneyI'minarock&rollband.

  • AWESOME fukin AAAAAA

  • Jack he is a banker, and Jane she is a clerk...she givbes good clerk; hey whatever happened to make-believe love as an album title?

ou as Henny Young man....! ;D

  • fuck yes..

  • Lou's the MAN! Grew up on Rock and Roll Animal. When I got pulled over by the cops as a kid, I told em my name was Louis Reed! My friends all started laughing their asses off and the cops arrested me for giving false info.

  • @B52sDTMA had a walk-up on 2nd ave and 3rd st in nyc in 80-85 - walked up to the men's shelter and right around there on the bowery is CBGB;s - heh

    those were the days

    no music like that now

  • When it comes to great rocknroll guitar riffs, Lou Reed is second to no one.

  • Wtf is this song about?!

  • Who the fuck dont like this??? Lou's the man and this is GREAT!!!

  • I love Reed:

"We put the head in, you noauh.

    You don't like it, we'll talk about it . . .

    I ain't no snob, man."

  • Brother, I feel for you. But I've got to say, it doesn't change the nature of the beast (or, in this case You). You did what you did and you may not ever understand why you did it. But you did do it. And at the time you didn't care about anyone but you. Then again, NA or whatever program may help you-that's awesome and I wish you luck. Whether or not you kids resent you is THEIR issue. All you can do is be there for em' (if that's your thing). Reed is simply celebrating sweet living'.

  • Lou seems damned comfortable in this version; and ready to talk!

  • You got an issue, I got a tissue, wipe my ass.

  • Great Bottom Line Shows..NYC..1978..What a blast

  • sweet, any other like totally gay vids , dog?

  • sweet

  • this has to be the best rock band group photo ever, i love lou and moe sharing a joke.. too classic~!

  • verrry good song

  • Nothing tops VU LIVE WITH LOU REED, 1969.

(TAKE NO PRISONERS is still pretty good, though.)

  • This is one of my favourite tracks.

  • Great, of course, but the live slow version from the VU is probably the most beautiful thing I have ever heard recorded. I think it's on "1969." That's the version the Cowboy Junkies copied. The only bad thing was I believe Moe was out-pregnant, so....too much cymbal. Still, perfect singing by Lou.

  • @leealderman

Moe's on the version you;re talking about, which is why it's so great.

(She was preggers on LOADED and LIVE AT MAX'S KANSAS CITY, where Doug Yule's brother Billy played drums.)

  • @sconl THanks....I'm getting old memories/facts mixed up.

  • "If you write as good as you talk, no one reads ya" LMFAO classic!

  • Where did this recording come from, and what year ?

  • @Spacemal this comes from "Take No Prisoners" double live album from 1978

  • perfect song, perfect photo :D

  • no its not the best version belive .......laters

  • @leemeires agree best is on rock'n roll animal with a great intro

  • Thank you for reminding me that Lou Reed = Genius!!!

  • Yes after listening to all the others by far the best version!

  • Lou Reed... Lou Fucking Reed... He is a genius, one of the greatest songwriter of all time...

  • Give me an issue ill give you a tissue, then wipe my ass with it! lmao

  • GREAT... LOU REED IS A TRIP, LOVE IT ... Thanks for posting..

  • awesome.

  • One of the best postings on YT ever!

  • Got the album abso awesome!." me honey i'm in a rock n roll band"
