OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE!!! 240kg dry weight for the Guzzi? What the hell is that?? My Street Triple has the same power and has a 189kg wet weight. And that BMW is a lard-ass itself, 223kg wet weight. Useless.
@RicardoSS85 street triple is a chain drive, well oiled chains like yours (not rusted to hell) give better performance than shaft drive, but shaft drive is more reliable, also the bmw's boxer engine has opposing pistons that helps cancel out vibrations giving a smoother bike.
@BlueFatalis Man, that does not justify the 65 kg more of the Guzzi in any way, and it hardly justifies 34 kg more of the BMW (I'm talking about wet weights).
@RicardoSS85 you need to also think about the engine size adding more weight, the engine was probably de-tuned to improve longevity, + the frames of the bikes were probably made for strength and not for weight reduction, i can see why the guzzi would be considered an obese bike, but man cut the BMW some slack ?
Put an Akrapovic can on the BMW and fly around feeling like a Messerschmitt pilot in WW2. Get the Guzzi and enjoy taking it back to the dealer for warranty claims every month.
History speaks for itself. During WWII HD made a bike that was designed after the BMW with the flat twin. They didn't copy anything from Italy, Britain, or Russia. The Russians did the exact same thing. BMW is German engineering at it's finest.
Regarding sales numbers BMW R bikes blow away Guzzi's. They beat Ducati too. It doesn't mean they are the all time best, but sales figures say a lot. HD in the US could eat all of the Euro bike makers lunch, but Harley's suck.
I never had a MG before my Breva. MG is more of an intelligent an performant bike. In it you can find passion. This vibration coming from the V-cylinders gives to me a nice feeling. No if you are a Japanese bike user, you can not understand, but old BMW user can. Today, even if BMW is a very good bike, is seems more and more Japanese, to much perfect. If I could image MG as a woman, it is the woman that make you enjoy in the bed! ;-)
Much more to go wrong on the BM. My mate has one, and it spends more time at the dealers than it does on the road. My Guzzi, however, has been brilliant.
I've had both these bikes and the BM is leagues apart. Considerably lighter, faster, more fun, more reliable (so far!) and, at the risk of sounding really boring, very economical. Only if you were a committed Guzzista would you pick the V-twin.
@deweypug If you want to ride a bike with character then hop on my 91 R/100/GS, it has over 100,000 miles of character on it and I love it with a passion. I also have a 2000 R1100R and can't stand it in comparison. It has 7000 miles on it and I rarely ride the ill handling tiresome bike. Mainly I love the way you cn carve with the old GS, it handles so well and effortlessly. I'd be willing to give Guzzi a go, the valve train noise is tiresome on the one's I'm familiar with.
I love my 1200 Sport. I rode nothing but BMWs from 1982 until I bought the Guzzi in the summer of 2009. My only regret is that I waited so long. Sure, the Beemer may be more technically competent, but there's just something about the Guzzi that makes me smile every time I ride it. And isn't that what it's really all about?

lol nice. smiley face. didn't realize who i was dealing with. Yea most people agree the best attitude when learning how to ride is "im amazingly good at this before trying it"... these are the people who tend to have the safest track records and longest life spans. Here is my last piece of advice. Buy the fastest bike you can afford -- something like a used 'busa or maybe a racer replica. then you can prove to everyone that youve got the magic touch.
Hahaha, i personally think they both loook like a penis, but im from America, so my opinion is biased. And no, I dont ride Harley, i dislike Harley with a passion.

bought a new guzzi breva 1200 in march this year. done 10 european countrys in 2 weeks on it, 3,500 miles. great bike. have ridden the bmw r1200r, also a very good bike, but the guzzi wins on all accounts.computer as standard, comfy gel seat, does not burn any oil like the bmw (1 pint every 1,000 miles)sounds great, large 23 litre tank, over 250 miles to a tank of fuel!! say no more. will be keeping my guzzi 1200 for a long time.great all round touring bike.
