so yeah... who else was watching vlogbrothers and found this video by searching The Mountain Goats and now ABSOLUTELY LOVES THIS SONG BEYOND COMPREHENSION
...The youtube ad that prefaced this song was for a dating site taking about how you want to remember how you met and tell your children about it. I would like to praise the irony Gods for their cleverness at this moment.
This sounds like what I know goes on during my parents mind, but never gets said aloud. They might as well sleep in two beds with a privacy curtain (actually that would be better, least they'd be in the same room).
@yinjara "This sounds like what I know goes on during my parents mind, but never gets said aloud."
I think you and Dino Stamatopoulous of Moral Orel thought exactly the same thing. I agree with you. It's a special kind of hatred you build up when you're stuck with somebody for years, well past the point where "love" has any meaning other than to antagonize you about how things used to be. It's too late to pay up and move on, you might as well just ride it until the wheels fall off.
heard this song on moral orel probably a year ago forgot to you tube it.... caught a repeat tonight and am so glad got a second chance to find it. thank god for adult swim and their re-runs...
@deadspell17 I wouldn't really describe Moral Orel as twisted and dark. The show has very dark and upsetting moments. However, what makes it good is that people are able to find happiness in their screwed up lives.
There are several characters in the show that are in extreme opposite situations and none of them enjoy the situation they are in. They message is that everyone has problems no matter what. The best we can do is find happiness anyway. Which we do. That isn't dark at all.
It is a little dark, I think but I do have to agree with you it's underpinned with a strange sense of hope at alot of times. I just like it cause it's sooooo outrageous and at the same time so real.
I will always remember you Zach Johnson. You were my friend that I loved dearly and theres so many things that I wish i could tell you. You were the closest thing to a brother, and Im listening to this song that you loved to play. RIP my friend, -Alex
While I like the vlogbrothers and love John Green's books, I find comments about them or nerdfighters on videos that aren't about them and if anything only extremely remotely related annoying.
It's like Frank inviting you to Joe's birthday party, so you sing happy birthday songs for Frank and bring him presents. No one cares about Joe anymore. It's Frank's party now.
This goes for all other comments of the type "thumbs up if X brought you here!" as well of course.
@mvfunkymonkey22 All my life I've thought I was one of a kind, a freak, a mutan.
I was the only potato in school and as a result never had any friends to play with.
Many years after flunking out of college and starting to do heroine, I was offered a job.
A job as a model for a potato chips company. I have never had any respect for that industry, but I needed the money. I spent the money from the modeling job on a crappy used computer, which I no longer regret. Because I have found one of my own.
I'm leaving to join the military, and my boyfriend of a year and I are having to call it quits. This song helps. "And I hope when you think of me years down the line you can't find one good thing to say, and I'd hope that if I found the strength to walk out you'd stay the hell out of my way." Hell yeah.
@sliver321123 Don't just say things like that without knowing everything. Many things are different for others, hell my dad was in the navy for 24 years and they almost got a divorce multiple times because of it. Its hard for people to have a family when half of the family isn't there. For many people its too hard. I don't condone it, but I do understand it gets too hard for many people. and every person reacts differently with their emotions.
I didn't really mean to offend, but I have a terrible tendency to word things like an asshole. I was just trying to point out the misguided logic, as she was implying that she was leaving him because she was joining the army, and quoting a lyric, that in my interpretation, describes a great deal of animosity, spite and outright hatred.
Anyone else think he says "i hope we both die" is because maybe he would like to see her die but still dosent want to live without her? Honestly, thats how i feel about a certain situation so maybe he does too....hmm
@HardcoreJesus100 Yeah I think you're right. It seems to me that this person is trying to find a way to get out of the situation he's in but knows it will kill him if he does, but that's still a better option than living with this girl.
i literally went out of my way to sign in and say addiedady78 made you all trying to describe the songs meaning look stupid. He was the only right one lol.
but aside from that i really relate to this song and cant stop listening to it. even though ive never married haha
@marshmallowmathers The music is good, but it's really the lyrics that make Mountain Goats incredible. Hardly surprising that an author likes it :) DFTBA!
I think it's essentially about how stupidly bitter two people become who have been in a marriage for a long period of time are but can't split up. It's resentful and wonderful.
HAHAHAHAH Holy shit... so today in my photography class we were making this "inspirational, and positive" video with fuckin colorful pics and motivational phrases... and i was chosen for the soundtrack,,, bad move! LOL the good thing is that our teacher doesnt speaks english.

I JUST heard this song on Moral Orel for the first time this morning, and I IMMEDIATELY looked it up on Youtube. Suffice it to say, it is my new favorite song.
Anyone else do the same?

The scary part is that most marriages do end up this way.I hope the day I do find someone it doesn't end up like this.
